"Vittu" for Finland is like "faen" for Norway.

I thought perkele was more like faen. Faen is another word for the man downstairs.

(Really interesting discussion here ;) )

Well, meaning-wise that is correct. But "faen" is  the curse that is most used overall, as I thought vittu was for Finland.

I've never been to finland, so the fins themself must answer this :) (Even though I work for a finnish company. They don't swear on the phone or on the mail)

Neoblaze knows the basics of finnish vocabulary. It's quite fascinating but you actually can live in Finland couple of years knowing just those two words. Just mumble them and look angry / dark. Of course everyone things you're violent and / or retard or at least redneck but hey, what the heck!

First one is curse, other name of devil in finnish. Other one is adjective describing women genitals. Latter being overused and somewhat mild expression (most of us learn it before we learn how to say mommy or dad... Or at least before we turn 8 years which one ever comes first)

I don't join the Quakenet anymore. That's one less server to stay on.

Let me guess... wait, I won't bother ;)

You just haven't been in a situation when the finn on the other end runs out of battery:
"yes, me likes very plenty.*pliip* vittu akku lopp...!"

Actually, I just recently found out that Perkele is a ancient finnish forest spirit or something... so I guess after the old naturegods (also seen in Kalevala) were forgotten, the christian meaning took over...

Perkele is something a man yells when he pushes himself to the limit of his powers, like some atleths in track&field sports... and in the sauna when it's very hot, of course ;)
(try 90+ degrees celsius in a good woodheated old sauna and you'll too have an urge to summon old spirits!)

"vittu" pretty much equals "fuck". Also like the weird people on the other side of the atlantic, our estethic word can be used as a noun, adjective, substantive and other fine forms..

Like "Vittu menin vittu eilen vitun kauppaan vittu ostaan vittu bissee"

just use it as every other word you say and you'll do fine x)

actually it's good that the language of my generation (20+ years) has gotten nicer, the worst swearers are elementary school kids.. unfortunately...

ps. I'm back in the forum!!
pps. don't take me too seriously. you might damage your mental stability if you do.
