Title: Games You Are Looking Forward To
Post by: Crimzen on July 04, 2011, 01:54:04 am
I thought this would be a fun thread. Talking about all the games that we want that havent come out yet. Here is my looking forward to list: Mass Effect 3, Skyrim, Assassins Creed Revelations, Persona 2: Innocent Sin, Modern Warfare 3, and Guild Wars 2.

Currently the top of the list is taken by Deus Ex: Human Revolution, which is surprisingly enough actually looking very promising.

Other games I'm prepared to spend countless hours in are Battlefield 3, Mass Effect 3, and Skyrim. Also HD remakes of MGS 2 and 3, fuck yeah.

EDIT: Oh yeah also Hitman: Absolution, but I'll have to wait and see more of the changes they're making to the formula until I decide whether to get it or not.

GW2 and BF3.
Also, I'm going to play Mass Effect 3 but since I think BF3 will steal all my time I can't say that I'm looking forward to it as much...

This was my first thought. Mass Effect 3/Dragon Age 3 [it'll happen!] were close behind.

Obviously for me it's BF3 and Portal 3 (That'll also happen). I was going to say Assassin's Creed: The new one, but I'm going to hold off. I didn't buy the three other AC games that are on sale on Steam right now because of the horrific DRM that is in those games. If AC:R contains more of the same I probably won't be buying it.

Skyrim looks like it's going to be properly epic, looking forward to that. Also Last Guardian on PS3, Team ICO can do no wrong in my eyes. Journey(PSN) looks fun as well, that similar ICO feel and interesting multiplayer. Skyward Sword is kinda a given.

Skyrim does look awesome, but I still remember the bullshit they fed to us through E3 demos before Oblivion, and "Radiant Story" sounds kinda worrisome. Still, I suppose I'll buy it pretty fast after release.

Minecraft
Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

Really all I'm looking forward to this year. There's also Skyrim, Super Mario 3DS etc. but I have no way to play those so I'm not putting them on any lists.

Minecraft
Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
Super Mario 3DS
Trine 2 and Half Life 2: Episode 3 (or Half Life 3, rather.)
These, and some other that i don't remember now.

I'm suddenly excited for a new game. It'll probably be quite a while until it comes out, but this short bit about Dishonored (http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2011/07/07/august-cover-revealed-dishonored.aspx) sounds very interesting.

I've had Gears of War 3 paid off since February. It will probably be the last big game I play for a while, as I'm starting classes back up in the Spring. Horde Mode 2.0 is going to kick all kinds of ass.

The new Deus Ex looks pretty awesome, but it will probably be something I'll pick up at a later date.

@WereVolvo: Saints Row The Third does look epic! I saw the trailer for it a while back and this looks like what I want GTA to be. Not a big fan of GTA but this Saints Row is looking sweet. A jet, I mean come on! A MFing jet! It's just the comical aspects that makes me like SR better than GTA.

Ok yes, Deus Ex Human Revolution, I need to get this. NAO.

I'm also looking forward to Dawn of War 3, but it's still in early development, I think.
Also, Guild Wars 2. GW1 was the only MMO I've played and I enjoyed it much, hope that GW2 will do even better. And that there's going to be no monthly fee...

Pre-orders on Origin get early access. Amazon.co.uk is cheaper, has just as many unlocks, comes as a disc (yay physical media) but doesn't come with the early access.

And yet I get better quality sound from my CDs than I do from any song from iTunes. Discs ftw. While they may be a bit less practical, I still much prefer them, and especially for CDs, I will continue to use them until an actual replacement comes along.

Actually, Minecraft. I've already bought it, but you know, it's TECHNICALLY not been released yet as full version. Virtual Lego is fun, at least so long as you are playing with other people. Also, redstone circuitry. Makes me feel like a boss an engineer who I am not. What is this Touhou? THIS (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Nb5Ohbt1Sg), more or less...
Aaaaand before I know it, I went through being a NEET and got into harder-than-hard Computer Studies. The irony!
Suddenly, I do not care about Minecraft anymore. I went through a period of very active minecrafting online during these vacations and I kind of had enough.

Touhou was only cool because of its insane difficulty. I suddenly thought that if I have one of these Touhou games it is more than enough for a while. That is, until you memorize all the deadly patterns and master the game. And I was right. I focused on a single TH game. I lost my interest before I even moved from Normal difficulty to Hard.

Well that was unexpected.

You know what? I am now waiting for DotA 2. Not because I want to play it, oh, no no no, not at all. New video games are not very interesting to me. See, I like the "original" DotA, the Warcraft III custom map. I await with anticipation because I have the feeling that once most players move away from DotA to DotA 2, the original will only be played by hardcore fans. Which means the opponents will get more skilled, but there will be fewer of them, so it will be harder to play a casual game of DotA.

Obviously I am just fantasizing about what CAN happen, but it is not said that it MUST happen. I mean, look at Counter-Strike. Or Quake II for a more extreme example. Or Call of Duty 4.
I must admit that out of these three games I am only playing Counter-Strike. But it feels harder than Team Fortress 2.

Although Team Fortress 2 was made to be a very fun and light game. Counter-Strike wanted to be more realistic, I think.

Oh yeah, shit's gonna be cash, I have no doubts about that. Though the trailer doesn't show much.

You know, I usually like Japanese independent shoot 'em ups. And I've recently found this game called Akashicverse: Malicious Wake. It's going to be released later this year I think. Though I am not sure if I am going to play it. Tell you the truth, this gameplay vid of the demo (http://youtu.be/NL0iDSG0dtE) I saw kinda makes me scared. It's your stereotypical Japanese bullet hell with machines, lolis, and tons upon tons of bullets. But it is so trippy, man. Like a dying dream. It doesn't even have a story yet, it is going to be added later as supplementary material.
But it being surreal is not what is scary. It looks so hard. Unlike other bullet hells, this one does not even try to hide the fact that you are going to get hit and die, a lot. You are given infinite continues (a rarity in bullet hells) and even a shield to absorb multiple hits (again, in other games from this genre you are usually finished after one, maybe two bullets). Because there is actually no way to dodge everything. The last two minutes of this video, it's too fast for any human being to dodge. I gave it a working nickname of Fuck Yourself: the Game. You can play all you want thanks to infinite continues, but if you are not good at this game, you are just going to keep dying. That's just cruel. There is no incentive for the player to keep on getting better if you can just die+continue your way till the very end.

EDIT: apparently, it's an emergent trend among shoot 'em-ups called on-LSD STG. Oh wow. I don't even know what I play anymore.

(The game turned out to be alright.)

Holy cow guys, Metal Gear Solid V is coming out on the PCs. Rejoice!

Also The Stanley Parable: HD remix. It can hardly be called a game, but what the hell, the original mod for Half-Life 2 was really fun, even though it was actually a 30-minute-long barely-interactive story.

I'm mostly posting here because I just stumbled upon this thread by pure chance and it turns out it's been exactly one year, 36 minutes and 52 seconds since my last post.

Link for MGS V PC version confirmation? I though they said they were probably going to release it on PC, but it's not a priority. I assumed it would be like Revengeange, which was released on PC way after the consoles.

Also I'm definitely looking forward to MGS V, but with slight trepidation. The trailers and a lot of what I've read seem to indicate that they're pushing for a really dark and horrible story, and perhaps even making the mistake of taking themselves (and, more importantly, MGS) seriously while doing it. I'm afraid that, like pushing aside Hayter as Snake's VA, they're going to do away with a lot of the silly things I love about the games, like cardboard boxes, distracting dudes with porn mags, and exclamation marks and the sound that goes with them.

But most importantly, since they're obviously tackling real-life horrible things like blood diamonds, child soldiers, and real torture (as opposed to the cartoonish contraptions in the previous games), I have very little trust in Kojima being able to handle any of it with tact (just look at Tittygirl McSniper in the trailer), and if the game is missing the series' trademark humour, I'm afraid it'll just come off as dumb and insensitive.

Of course we've got stuff like Snake (why is he called Snake? I thought he officially took the name Big Boss already?) giving Kaz back his shades for the first thing while rescuing him, and riding a mini metal gear thing, which give me hope about the overall tone of the game. We'll see, though.

The gameplay looked amazing and even if I'm usually iffy on open world games due to the difficulty of providing a good enough density of unique content, being ridiculously detailed and planning shit like a bunch of lunatics is something I trust Kojima and his team entirely on.

Link for MGS V PC version confirmation?
I... don't really have any link to back that up, just word of mouth.

I am still very excited, though, because I've never played any MGS game before due to not owning a console, but have been very interested in the series ever since Substance/Sons of Liberty. Apparently, the PC port of MGS 2 wasn't good, though. But I trust that either Revengeance or The Phantom Pain will be good enough for me to sink into it. At least from the technical perspective.

At this point, I don't even care about the overall tone of the story. I feel like I have so much to look forward to once I catch the bug and get to know the series a little bit better by playing one of these games myself. The series' story seems impenetrable and very convoluted from the outside. I tried reading the wiki, but the walls of text deterred me. I'm sure it gets much more comprehensible and interesting once you actually play the games.
Title: Re: Games You Are Looking Forward To
Post by: Caranfin on June 18, 2013, 02:03:16 pm
The story is a convoluted mess of insanity and retcons even when you're played the games, really. I've found the best way to enjoy it is to just go along for the ride and laugh at all the really goofy weird shit going on (and also Snake being a clueless goof all the time).

Try to get to play the originals. Do you have a friend who could loan you a PS3? Or, hell, if you've got a bit of extra cash, the things don't cost a whole lot these days and are likely to get even cheaper when the PS4 is released. MGS1 and the HD collection are really solid buys, even if I think 2 and some parts of 1 haven't aged very gracefully.

And yeah some people say the MGS2 PC port was ok, but my experience with it was straight up terrible. You only got to access controls and shit through the launcher, the controls listed buttons by what PS2 button they corresponded to instead of by function, and every time I closed the game while figuring out the mess of the controls I had to force quit the application since it failed to close properly. I quit after like half an hour, before I had the controls set up.
