Post by: Fallout on November 12, 2006, 07:45:59 am
Hey guys, the festive season's coming up soon and I was wondering what you all want for Christmas :)

I want:

Knowing me, I'll get all of these things(besides a girlfriend :/). I get paid on the 26th of each month so I'm buying a Wii and GoW with my first paycheck in November, then buying everything else on the 26th of December ;D

...So, what do you want?

Broadband. The same thing as every year since 1997. And at long last this very month they finally got ADSL here. But oh look, they put it in town and I happen to live like 6km out of town. No ADSL for me, ever. Not worth servicing a couple places apparently. Guess it sucks to live on 6 acres on the water worth millions away from civilization in a beautiful place. /emo /cuts penis off in hot bath with porn to bleed to death faster than lame ass wrist slitting  :'(

I've had a huge problem coming up with things I'd like to get for christmas. This is my list this far:

-Xbox 360
-Machinae clothing
-Battlefield 2142
-A rondel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rondel_%28dagger%29)-type dagger
-A longsword suitable for training medieval swordsmanship as it is taught in the finnish School of European Swordsmanship. (http://www.swordschool.com/en/index.html) (For those who know, we train mostly by Fiore dei Liberi's treatise, although we do also have influences from Vadi and Hans Talhoffer's texts.)

I'd like to have something I'd really "need"...

* Wii!
* New display
* New Wacom tablet
* 72-pencil box of Derwent's Artist color pencils :3
* New MP3-player to replace my broken Creative MuVo :<

But as my relatives think I'm just another normal 17-year-old girl, I'll be getting gallons of girly perfumes I'll never use, tons of hotpants, some toe socks and chocolate, worth of some of the objects I listed.
Oh, of course my parents will be getting me that new display - which I'd be getting without the help of Christmas anyway.

Umm... Well, I wouldn't mind to have someone to think of when I'm visiting my relatives and the boredom is killing me... Someone to spend to Christmas night with... .__.

I wish so many things... Both globally and personally. But most of all I want peace of heart. That way christmas feels like christmas and I can enjoy the relaxed, happy faces of my loved ones around me without worrying mundane earthly things. This is gift I have received every year and hopefully it comes true this year too.

And that's the reason we in our family practice giving each other wishlists.

Well, not that my grandparents would give me jewelry or handbags anyway.

I have, however, discovered that it's getting harder and harder to find things I want that are within acceptable parameters of price. I have, however, found a couple of things:

Alan Moore - From Hell (the comic that the movie is based on. It's a huge one)
Diplomacy (a boardgame. Very cool boardgame)
A couple of books (Altered Carbon and Snowcrash so far)
Money for a new jacket or coat or something like that

My problem is, I have my birthday 22 days before christmas, so I should try to have something for then too. Though I'll probably get money from most of my family then. I won't be getting much money for christmas, though, as it's tradition in our family that on christmas, you give real presents.

Snow is a novelty here, I like the snow. The last time it snowed here, it started at about midnight. I swear to god it was like something out of a movie, people came out of their houses and out of hte pubs, in the middle of the fucking night to play in the snow. So much fun.

We always get snow, but not usually on Christmas. It will be at some random time before or after, so then Christmas morning is muddy and icky-looking.

I always hated the snow before, but now I love it.  :D

I don't necessarily enjoy missing someone - but I like knowing that after everything's over, I get to come back to them. I think that's a very nice feeling, when you finally do come back.
Title: Re: Christmas Wishlist!
Post by: Torp v2.0 on November 14, 2006, 02:20:50 am
Yeah, there's bad missing someone and there's good missing someone. The good kind is in fact enjoyable, in a way.

And now for snow.

Snow where I will be at christmas (back home, that is) is a fleeting thing. It usually falls in semi-large amounts one day, and the next day we have a whitish, sloppy mass. It might be mistaken for snow, but it really isn't. The day after that again, we have ice. And then we have whitish sloppy mass for a couple of days, and then maybe it snows again, and we have white sloppy mass or ice for a couple of more days, and then some rain, and probably some more rain, which will freeze once it hits the ground and make the roads very slippery, and possibly a day without rain (mind you, it will still be windy), and then I'm going back up here.

I actually kinda like the dark autumn storm, with the wind and the rain. And it's really what I'm going to get when I get home. There's no winter there, the year usually consists of spring, short summer, autumn and then spring again.

Indeed. That is worse than bad missing, that's sucky missing.

The bad missing is the kind I had the first few weeks in the army. It wasn't for someone special, just home and family in general. It's the kind that would probably cripple you if it lasted too long, but luckily I doubt it often lasts long enough.

I'm seeing that coupled with a depression to be a very dangerous thing, though.

Didn't I reply something like "guns+depression+bad missing = very bad"?

I know that guns+depression is a really bad combination. I know someone who confessed to me that more or less the only reason why he didn't kill himself in the army was the thought of the trauma he'd force the rest of his unit through.

Boy or girl, I'm just glad my family is more in understanding with each others interest. Mom want's a gamepad and some PC tools for christmas hehe Something me and my siblings know well. Hell, I'm glad I'm in a family of geeks XD Have you ever tried to tell your grandmother that you might like something else for christmas then pink-fake-diamond jewelry and perfumes? That can sometimes be a sensitive discussion but in any case if you don't use it then its that fun every year right?

Buy the new Gillette razoe... the Fusion. It's the most amazing shave I've ever had in my life, and that's no bull.  :-X It doesn't even feel like a razor. Just a handle that glides over your skin and makes the hair magically disappear...

Besides, electric razors that aren't > $100 can cause some serious irritation to the skin. That's why I stopped using mine. And that was with pre-shave and after-shave stuff.  :P

Yeah, i mean they keep adding shit like lubrication gel and extra blades, but does it make a difference ?

Did I not say "most amazing shave I've ever had in my life"?

Edit:

That single razor on the back is really handy, too. Wouldn't think it, but it's great. Makes it easier to straighten out my sideburns and shave in those places it's awkward to shave with the other side.

I got a £15 electric shaver from (waitforit!) Argos two years ago. does the job just fine, no irritation!
Don't shop for it. Argos it, kids.

I just use a plain old shitty Gillete razor, £10 or something.

It does the job. :)

Okay, it'll be an ipod/archos/anything else with more than 512 Mo (something like 20 or 30 Go) and it'll be quite enough for this time.
