Title: 650gb / month
Post by: robert on January 07, 2006, 06:08:59 pm
650 gigabytes...

That's how much the Machinae Supremacy website traffics in song downloads in one month. What do you guys think about that? I think it's kinda cool.

Is that on average[1] or just for last month?

[1] If so, over how many months was the data collected?

If you're going to ask a question such as that, you may as well ask to see the graphs :P

Yeah, rob - let us see the graphs for hits etc, and how much as been downloaded over different months :D

I think I alone account for a great deal of the 650GB/month though. I download all the songs from the site onto every computer I sit at in class, and since I don't always use the same computer, I end up downloading all the songs over and over again on different computers. Not sure how many megs that would be per session....

holy shit thats amazing. Why some record company hasn't noticed this and snapped you up is beyond me.

Because like the other douchebags out there, they want to how many "songs" that is, not the size of it.

It really pisses me off how Mp3 players are now gettingrated by how many "songs" they can hold; if all the songs are only  a few KB each, my Mp3 player can kick the shit out of all of yours! It's fucking ridiculous, songs are subject to change, size isn't. People really need to learn just how much a gig actually is, it's not a fucking 100 songs. IT'S A FUCKING GIG!

Now, anyone who disagrees...go die.

Title: Re: 650gb / month
Post by: GeeDougg on January 17, 2006, 12:31:27 pm
Many people don't even read the fine-print on the back/bottom of the boxes of the MP3 players they're buying, and most wouldn't even know what it means. Many of the "x number of songs" ratings are at 48Kbps.... *shivers in disgust*
Title: Re: 650gb / month
Post by: Laser.T on January 17, 2006, 03:06:45 pm
I keep getting asked how many songs my MP3 player holds. I tell, I don't know, I just filled it until I reached the 1Gb limit. Then they look at me blank. 'What's 1 Gig?'

Now, I realise that people don't understand what bytes are. But, fucking hell, learn you 'tards! With all the technology about these days you'd think there'd be some capacity to learn what a fucking byte represents. Kids in nursery school are using computers nowadays, why do people still not understand what a computer Does.

I don't get why everyone HAS to have an MP3 player. Most of them have a capacity of between 512MB and 6 GB, yet, most of them contain only a couple of hundred songs at most, not even utilizing it to anywhere NEAR full capacity (I am certain there are no Devil Doll tracks on these aforementioned MP3 players)

I have to say I'm guilty of owning a 60gig player but only using about 10 gig so far. Although to be fair I did ask for the 30gig one, plus I use it as my hard-drive backup.

I reinstalled my iPod mini a few weeks ago. Before that the 4 GB were completely used, now I have maybe around 1,5 GB on it. Mainly an almost complete Machinae discography and a few new and favourite albums.

My 20g iPod is full, has been, it's spilling over into my brother's. I'd take some stuff off for rotation but I'm in somewhat of a sticky situation hard drive wise.

lol, at the price of a few grand, I'm sure you can make your own. Just Imagine this ;

60 gig Ipod - $600 Aud

17 x 60 gig Ipod = 1tb
17 x $600 = $10200

There you have it for 10 grand you can have an array of 60 gig Ipods. Tranportation may be the only issue.

Haha yeah because we all know a gig is really 940-ish mb lol so thats only about 1024 songs, right?.... riiiight? ::)

Wow, yeah when people ask me about my player i tell them how many gigs and then DAZZLE them by saying... “thats about 400 albums, ya know, of varying length and compression”... It might be easier to just throw some glitter and tell them its magic. My 30gig player is full up and i have a whole folder on my computer for the music that isnt in rotation. I have to travail alot so i pretty much need to have all my music with me for the days or weeks i'm away from home. I've not gone mad yet so i think it was a good investment.

Like I've said before, measuring MP3 Players in songs is like measuring time in books.

"Bibles."

Eh. if it's loud enough that you can tell the difference, you're probably bothering the people around you. 128... i mean... that's larger than 127! it's a lotta ks. and when you have many thousands of tracks to worry about, a hardly-noticeable increase in clarity is not worth the extra 50% (ish) hard drive space.

Actually, a Gig is 1073741824Bytes, which is 1GB, not 940MB. If it was a Hard-Drive MP3 player then you could theoretically get cheated and ripped-off a bit, but there's no 1GB Hard-Drive MP3 players - all the ones up to 4GB (and a few up to 8GB) use flash memory chips.

Yeah, actually i know 1GB is actually supposed to be 1024MB or an ass load of Bytes, whatever. But my “1 GB” memory stick for my digital camera only holds about 940MB... my “30GB” hard drive mp3 player only holds 27.97-ish MB. I am well aware that my “200GB” hard drive reads 200,047,001,600 bytes and 186GB under drive properties.

I was simply using real number in the most ignorant way i could, look if i have to explain my jokes its not really worth it. hehe

I've read something that harddisk vendors have invented their own numeric system (obviously to make their disks larger) where 1 MB (called Million Bytes) is 1000000 bytes and 1 GB is 1000 MB. Convert that to "real" PC bytes and you should get the difference.
