Title: Holy bat quano!`
Post by: Bearfoot on June 17, 2005, 08:31:30 pm
IF you even remotely like Batman, see Batman Begins.. the movie is AWESOME!  (And I"m a marvelphile)

It is easily EASILY the best comic book related movie EVER.

I won't say anything else for fear of spoilers, save that my knitpicking is mostly just stuff that makes sense in a comic book world but not RL...

Shitty camerawork during the fights.

Too fucking loud.

Not enough attention on Scarecrow.

Too much on Ra's al Ghul.

Joker reference at the end was utter crap.

Now the good:

Liam Neeson as Ghul was fucking brilliant.

haven't seen it yet, but i'm sure it can't be better than the 1966 Batman: The Movie.

Funniest. Film. Ever.

One of my favourite comic heroes, one of my favourite actors... maybe I should go and see it.

I think the problem is that Batman is supposed to be silly like that, with the POW!! thingies and ridiculous circumstances... Then Tim Burton added his own Burton-y twist to it, and it worked because he's Time Burton.... but then these other directors looked at Burton's and said "So..... Batman=dark. Got it." and it's just gone downhill from there. Michael Keaton was awesome. George Clooney is okay. They both have that sort of ridiculous/don't-take-me-so-seriously aura. But Val Kilmer... not so much. And Christian Bale may be good, but he's not Batman.

The director of Batman Begins is Christopher Nolan, whose other films include Memento and Insomnia, both of which were quite good; but with those films he didn't have 1) a huge budget, 2) a legacy of films to try to emulate, and 3) a huge audience expecting the emulation to work well.

Besides, I've had enough of this "prequel" nonsense.

Magicman, giving away that spoiler without warning was not cool too...

The whole point of the camerawork was to make it surreal and that you weren't sure what was going on.  I woul've liked more clarity, but what I saw was brutal cool..

And um.. I kninda forgot Sin City.. which I loved too.. we'll just say it's very good IMHO and such.

And as to the "Stupid Joker reference"  Um.. it's called a set up for the next movie...

And it's not a prequil, it's a reset.  They want too, and with fairly good reason, forget the previous Batmans existed (Batnipples anyone?)

Better than the comic-based movie that was on ITV last night, "Nick Fury, Agent of Shield" ?!?!

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119781/

I sure as hell hope so, that was a massive pile of cheesy bollocks :P (Illustrated by the fact that the leading role was played by David Hasslehoff :D)

Thank God for that, the series is in *dire* need of a do-over... those nipples still haunt my dreams... :P

I saw it a couple days ago and I didn't care for it. It's a mixed bag of crap. They try to fit so much stuff in the movie that the quick cuts remind me of a Paul Anderson movie (AVP, Mortal Kombat, ect.) There were a couple neat moments. It was supposed to be a more grown up movie, and it was, but most of the jokes they added just fall flat on their face. Meh, it was an alright movie, but nothing I want to see again.

I think almost all comic heroes were like that in the 60ies. There are many interpretations where Batman is a f*cked up brutal revenge seeking psycho. Pretty much like Jack Bauer with mask and cape.
