Title: Burnout 3
Post by: SomethingApt on September 08, 2004, 11:43:32 pm
BUY THIS GAME NOW! I got it yesterday and it is so damn good that it almost makes me cry. It's by far the best racer around, and it's great fun even if you usually hate driving games. Gorgeous graphics, ridiculously fast, brilliant opponent AI (they'll actually try to nudge you into oncoming traffic and obstacles); INSERT INTO yabbse_messages (ID_MSG, ID_TOPIC, ID_MEMBER, subject, posterName, posterEmail, posterTime, posterIP, smiliesEnabled, modifiedTime, modifiedName, body, icon, attachmentSize, attachmentFilename) VALUES and not to mention some absolutely jaw-droppingly amazing slow-motion crashes. You take out an opponent mid-race, and the game will slow down to almost a hault, the camera will woosh round to give you a look at the havok you've just caused, then spin back behind your car so you can carry on racing. IT'S SO DAMN COOL!!

 ;D ;D

Ridiculously fast you say?  Fast as, say, F-Zero GX?  That's probably my favorite racer...  Really nice levels, controls were great, and you went over 1000 km/h most of the time.
If Burnout is anything like that, I might pick it up some time.

Yes, Turtle.  Even low res screen caps at IGN.com look to be just as fast, if not faster.

I'm going to rent before buying.. ok, I'm just going to rent.  I got a con coming up and I"m going to borrow about 500 bucks for it..  that's a lot of money.. :P

Burnout 2 was pretty cool, does 3 still have the mode where your objective is to cause as much damage as possible? I wish there was a PC version, blah @ using my ps2 for racing.

Well, I'll rent the Xbox one some time.  I might start using Gamefly or a service similar to it...  I love Netflix to death so it seems like something like that for games would be a good idea.

Yep, and it's even better now. You can play the crash mode with a friend split-screen and try to both cause as much havok as possible.

Yes, over 100 of them, both single and co-op play.

Ah well...  Finally got F-Zero back from a friend, so until I can afford to at least rent Burnout...  I'll be visiting Captain Falcon for a while.

It's by far the best racer around
I challange that!

Games supporting my argument:
 - Live For Speed
 - Need for speed : Porsche
 - Nascar 2003 (raceing season)
 - Grand Prix Legends
 - Grand Prix 3
 - Stunts
 - Streetrod
 - Richard Burns Rally
 - Collin McRae Rally 2
 - NetKar

It depends what side you are looking at it from. I've played the original burnout and that was hella fun. I loved that game.

There's something primal about the concept of smashing shit up, isn't there?  I think that that's why teh Burnout series as a whole is pouplar.

That game (Burn Out 3) makes me want to buy one of those consoles.. I saw a review of the game on TV. It got 10/10. I was laughing out loud as I saw the cars driving at lunatic speeds, crashing and getting smashed to little pieces, flying around.

I like doing psycheouts.
Just driving close to opponents until they freak out and steer themselves into a crash.

Sigh, I wish NFS would go back to its roots and get away from the shitty ricing fad and produce a game with all the high end sports cars but the cool and utter destruction of burn out 3 and whatnot. That would be godly.

Soon as I leave town, defently picking up a copy of BO3.

Hmmm, it's been praised here, it's been praised on Penny Arcade, it's been praised by people at school. I'm really due for a new game, but I'm running low on both money and time.

I suppose I should at least rent it.

This game really really rocks. Maybe one of the best racing game ever, alongside with NFS underground.

The multiplayer-modes are happy happy happy, joy joy joy

This has been added to my "reason to get an cockbox"-list, next to Soul Caliber 2 and Ninja Gaiden

Awww there is no police, I was expecting to get chased. I feel disapointed but the crashing is wonderful.

The NFS8:U2 demo with it was very amusing in a oh my god this sucks really bad just like the last two kind of way.

Review...

Fun but ultimately it's going to be boring.  Good rental material.

Grapics weren't so good, but that's a fair trade off for speed.

Sound was OK, but the four songs and five DJ sayings got annoying.

The gameplay was very fun, but ultimately boils down to smacking people around.  Which can be fun, but not for hours at a go.

All in all I think that this is a perfect party/waste five minutes type of game. IF I get it, I'm going to get it used.

Four songs? More like 49 songs. Impressive considering there is not one rap song and they even included one that's melodic death metal. Go EA, too bad the rest is mostly punk rock and stuff, feh. DJ is very repetative though, looks like they were trying to make it feel like the SSX of car racing. They even mention DJ Atomica from SSX3 heh.

Anyone else dare play the NFS8 demo that's in the extra section?

Oh, I beleive you about the number of songs.  For some reason though, I kept hearing the same four over and over and over and over and over...

On the xbox version if you press black while driving you toggle through songs... im gona assume something similar is in place for the ps2 vers.

Yeah because it changes songs every new screen so you only hear the few while racing. I really hate the EA trax thing that pops up and hogs my viewing area though.

how about hacking the ps2 one to have dxm in it?

Nobby, if you can hardware hack and/or patch a PS2 to play CDs I want to see how...

It'd be easier to just turn the music volume to 0 in the game and put dxm into your cd player / computer / whatever.

But that's cheating :P
For some reason I always leave default game music alone unless there's a way to import your own music.  Even if the game music really sucks, I'll leave it on.  I dunno.

Obviously you've never played a game of the bust a move variety (especially the older ones) . Now that is grating music at its best.

I have to more or less agree with Bearfoot on this one maybe. I think it's very good at what it is, and brings wreckless fun, but I got bored of it quickly... knowing full well I would have picked it up the next day had I not needed to bring it pack to the rental store.

It's very good short-termed fun, enjoy the chaos, be mindless at your best. But it's not an instant classic, it lacks that lasting appeal. That being said, I will probably purchase it once it becomes a greatest hit.

Well it depends on what type of game I am playing at the time. The only time I ever turn off the music is when I want to listen to a game, when it is intense. I.E. Quake, unreal and real racing simulators.

If it was on console or something I think i'd leave it on default.

I still maintain that this'd be a great game to go and get drunk and play with a buncha friends.

Of course, from what I understand, EVERYTHING is better when you're drunk with friends...
