Pretty good, living the usual life, playing some games and working on some music. How are you, Robert? Good to see you dropping in from time to time. ;)

Yeah I've been living in a bubble for a few months. I still post to twitter and facebook but I don't consume as much social stuffs. Trying to get this next album out the door. But I'll try to put in some time here too once that is out of the way.

What's the album sounding like so far? And how'd you enjoy your time over at MAGfest this year?

This place be deeeeeeeeead.

The hype for the next album is still contained. Gaijin coming in and posting about how he heard something amazing like usual would probably result in a release.

of some sort

idk

Are we going to get some teasing about the new album soonish? That would definitely liven up the forums again.

Almost a year since i last posted here. Last post on: April 19, 2013, 01:06:36 PM. Anyways, any ideas when the new album will be released? Not sure if i read this somewhere or my crazy imagination but i think i heard it would come out this summer?

Hi guys!

The album is almost finished. We will master it mid-April.

Release date is set to late August instead of May. More info will come shortly.

Rock on!!!

Awesome. I might actually have enough money to attend the release party (there is going to be one, right?) if it's after the summer.

I still check by here every once in a while, even though it's pretty much dead. Seriously, there's not even a link to the forum on the front page...

But I'm hyped for the album as always! I'd love to get a little sample of one of the songs, a teaser if you will.
Whats the chance of that happening anytime soon? :D

If it's a concept album it might be better for the overall experience to wait until the full album is out.

A part of me is hoping for a sound similar to the stuff you guys did for the GSTD expansion... that stuff is cool.

20 years from now there will be a legend about an unreleased album track that only certain forumites have heard. The only known thing about it are the lyrics. Fly. In Space. I will tell everyone how awesome it was and that Dezo was doing guest vocals on it.

After 2 seconds in google, I have found link to some Finnish online shop, which has posted this tracklist for Phantom Shadow
1. I Wasn’t Made for The World I Left Behind
2. The Villain of This Story
3. Perfect Dark
4. Europa
5. Throne of Games
6. Meanwhile in The Hall of Shadows
7. Phantom Battle
8. Captured (Sara’s Theme)
9. Renegades
10. Beyond Good and Evil
11. The Second One
12. Redemption Was Never Really My Thing
13. The Bigger They Are The Harder They Fall
14. Versus
15. Mortal Wound (Skye’s Requiem)
16. Hubnester Rising

Can someone confirm if this is for real?

Phantom Battle is the one that Rob used to mention in machinaemondays on plug.dj, so probably it's not fake :)

I think I'll go with only the CD this time as I already have the roadn hoodie and avfteotw shirt.

And the traditional Kuopio gig... So much win 8)

Another dead rising!

I logged on to the site to see when I could order the new album and if the new tour would include Norway. Haven't got too much news after I killed my FB account (too much politics and spam), and Twitter doesn't cut it. Then I discover this?! The old forum has risen from the dead? Even my old login still works!

Please don't punch me, for this comment. Who has heard the new song already? I like it very much, every part of it. And the word "part" is the only critique of it. For me it sounds a little like a song which was cut together and was mentioned to be an other song. Especially when the refrain after the first verse is starting the first time, it seems not to fit to the main melody. Don't understand me wrong, both parts are great. I love it. But anyway it sounds not like a complete song. Same with the solo and the SID part at the end. Love it, but could replaced and wouldn't fit, when the main melody wouldn't be in the background.

Don't know. Maybe it's only me, but Beyond Good and Evil doesn't sound like a frequent Machinae song. For me it's familiar that Jonne's solos fit to the melody and a complete song is on the table. A song where you can continuously bang your head. So it's like: Bang Head -> Refrain is starting -> Short Pause Banging till the new part is loaded -> Bang Head -> Repeat.

Last time I had a related feeling was when I hearing Overworld (The Track, not the whole Album). There are similar changes at the rhythm but it sounds not like it was cut together... hard to describe but maybe it would be better when some Bridges like in Rocket Dragon would put the song better together.

The refrain was hearable in the music trailer for the album, too. I was very curious how the whole song sounds. But anyway I expected something else. However it is a great song. Unstable, but great. It could be, after hearing it more often on different sound systems, that it sounds better. First time I was hearing Shinigami it was a little strange for the beginning, too. But now it's one of my favourite songs.

Does someone other have similar feelings or is it really only me?

I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to convey. All I can say is that I like when music goes in directions I didn't expect it to, that said I don't think this track did any all too crazy left-field kind of wacky stuff. Also it's been written that this album isn't as much of an easy listen as some of their previous stuff, some of it will probably be hard to digest for some I guess. Also I hope I'm not coming off like too much of a dick when I say music isn't ALL about banging ones head haha

I kinda understand how you feel, but there are a couple of things you need to remember here.

Firstly the song is clearly story driven and in my opinion the changes and differences between the parts tell the story of the song as much as the lyrics.
Secondly the whole album is a concept album, which means the main focus is to tell the complete story with all the songs in the album. Meaning this song is in the end just a small part of a much larger story. Who knows how we understand the song when we hear it as a part of the album? Could be even possible that Beyond Good and Evil actually tells a story from the point of view of two different characters. In which case the changes in the pace of the song are actually an effect to help us distinguish the parts of the two characters.

Anyway, gotta love the song. It works really well just by itself and I think that is a really great. Some concept albums are kinda hard to introduce to new people because you need to listen to the whole album in order to make any sense of the songs.
The C-part is one of the best things I've heard from MaSu and the way the song builds up to it is just superb.

I kinda understand how you feel, but there are a couple of things you need to remember here.

Firstly the song is clearly story driven and in my opinion the changes and differences between the parts tell the story of the song as much as the lyrics.
Secondly the whole album is a concept album, which means the main focus is to tell the complete story with all the songs in the album. Yeah, I understand your point. And, as I say, the song is really great. But compared to other Machinae Supremacy songs it's unusal that there are so much changes inside the rhythm. The refrain is a completly other melody than the main verse and it starts abrubtly without a "warning". It's a little bit weird for the beginning. When you say, that it's intended and fits to the storyline of the Album, then it's okay. For the song alone it sounds a little bit strange, like two or more songs are put together. I mean only the musically aspect. Not the story one  ;D

Felt the same way, but I listened, and listened, and listened and now all feels natural.

Instantly noticed something in the intro when I started up the song....

All the world is yours to keep
All you have to do is walk with me.

It's not even 9 AM and I've already listened to the song four times. So. Much. Win.

I tihnk the SID from the outro (5:14 - 5:22) is gonna be my new ringtone as soon as I get my hands on the disc and rip it to FLAC.

I think The Second One is probably my favourite track on the album, but I was a huuuuuuuge fan of Indiscriminate Murder is Counter-Productive. So that makes sense :P.

All in all a really fucking awesome album I am super glad I pre-ordered this one :). I just couldn't resist waiting for its actual release haha!

Totally agree. Currently listening Second One for the first time and I just can't stop myself jamming to it's beat, definitely one if not the best song they've done this far.
MaSu has always gotten better album by album so I shouldn't be so suprised they did it again, but OH MY DID THEY OVERDO THEMSELVES THIS TIME.

Some songs from the album seems to be like a mix from earlier works from the band. Like a tribute album from themselves. Starting from the album art over some melodies to the lyrics. It was a big suprise for me to hear the "Nemesis" refrain in "Renegades". I love this refrain and was in love for this song since the first time I heard it. In the same song there is this cool Metal riff from "Crossroad Mireva" from Rob's soundcloud site. The main melody from "The second One" is uneqivocal from "the first one" ^^ I did hear "Captures (Sara's Theme)" before, too. But can't say exactly wherefrom it was. Must be a older Hubnester Records tune.

Another point is the Fan Service into the album. I think no one can say the new album haven't enough SID ^^ And the acoustic parts in few songs appearing fresh and untypical for Machinae Supremacy songs. I like this album and it comply with most of my whishes how a new MaSu album should be. I'm only still waiting for Player Two and March of the Undead part V ;)

Yeah, this album has references to earlier songs just everywhere. Tons of snaps from Redeemer for instance. A very big plus.
But I feel that those few acoustic parts are another reference since in their earlier works they used to have songs that were  50% of music + vocals and 50% pure music (Flagcarrier, Nemesis...). Love to see them brought back.

That's right, it was the Hubnester Industries track called "Raison Meets Sara". I recognized it too! :)

Did you also notice how Renegades starts off just like how Nemesis ends (http://youtu.be/o1O1OdIeO6U?t=4m32s)? I myself really likes these references  8)

I... I... Didn't think they'd manage to top their first 3 (which I much prefer to their newer albums) but... but... upon listening a few times my initial impressions are leading me to agree with you...?

This album is majestic beyond words.

My album has officially shipped, and I'm enough of an audiophile that I will not listen to any songs (aside from BGaE) with inevitable internet compression, but my overall opinion of BGaE is that it effectively combines MaSu's maturity as a band with their old-school sound.

Considering the strong story elements in the album and the references to older songs.... I just started thinking what if all the "story songs" of MaSu actually happen in the same universe and same storyline but we have never just thought about their connections before the Phantom Shadow. And now they are all finally coming together after we heard the main story.

The more I think about this the more my mind gets blown. Just take a moment and think about it!

the correct question is: where's my fucking cd?! and t-shirt...

a perfect time for the postal service to be fucking around. so far all but one of my orders over the years from recordshopx arrived in 2-3 days and even that odd one only took a week. phantom shadow was posted last tuesday according to their site (weirdly enough on wednesday it said it'll be posted thursday but on thursday it said it was shipped on tuesday) and it still hasn't arrived. combine this with family vacations and stuff and looks like the earliest I'll be able to listen to it (don't care that it's on youtube and everywhere, I want the real thing) is next monday but maybe only next friday. goddamnit...

(btw, wtf is up with the triple post verification? haven't been here for a while and I had to google the 2 dates and try 25 times for the fucking captcha.)

woohoo, it's finally here! only took 2+ weeks :/ which is even more surprising since it was sent via dhl express for some reason. oh well...

my first impression of the album is pretty good, I like most of the songs already, though europa is very much like flagcarrier and the second one is even more like indiscriminate murder. and of course there's a section of nemesis showing up at some point. a lot of sid (though not enough), some female vocals (though not erica oberg), so all in all it's looking good. and it's much longer than the previous album. as awesome as digital nation is, I was a bit disappointed when it turned out to be 40+ minutes, 8 songs plus a filler and a re-recording.

as for the physical presentation, since it's a concept album, some more info/story/whatever would've been nice in the booklet. but there are only 3 differences between the written and sung lyrics, so that's something. and the t-shirt looks nice too, though it's not fruit of the loom material this time but some other brand, less thick, probably not as durable. we'll see.

Haven't given the album a proper listen yet but I intend to soon! I like the Nemesis throwback, and I also heard Union from the old Hubnester website! (I still have the mp3 ripped)

Need to finish the whole thing but so far I love the instrumental side of it! As usual, it takes a minute to get used to Rob singing but I'm sure it will grow on me like it always does. :)

Perfect Dark stands out to me so far, love the refrain (right word?) before the chorus which matches the beginning melody.

I kinda stopped listening to new stuff MaSu put out around A View From the End of the World. Didn't even gave Rise of a Digital Nation a good listen, and kinda decided that the new "Hero" was a good place to stop following the band completely (since the first "Hero" I heard in Jets'n'Guns ten years ago was the song that got me into the band in the first place).

But I came back, mostly for the story behind the album. I'm not sure if I like the music itself, but I said exactly the same thing in 2010, when AVFtEotW was coming out, and then I gradually fell in love with it.

Anyway, MaSu signed a record deal with Spinefarm Records for five albums, right? That means Phantom Shadow is their second-to-last one covered by that deal. I wonder what the next one will be like, but it's unlikely to be as grandiose as PS. I also wonder what happens next. Hopefully a new batch of promo songs, like the good old times, while Robert tries to publish his story in the form of an anime/feature-length movie. IMO those songs were the best, and not because of being free, either. I have always liked those the most, ever since the times of Deus Ex Machinae.
