Title: Borderlands
Post by: Chronologix on November 06, 2009, 01:44:10 am
Why is there no topic on this yet!?

RPG + FPS

It is wasteland shooter with RPG elements and a "random generator" system for weapons/items that you can loot from kills and chests.

Incredibly addictive, yet somewhat short in terms of overall content. The game story-line is short, and in turn limits the amount of areas you can enter. But with each area being a little different than the last it makes you want to explore and blow up all enemies you find.

Some some humor in it, but only really seems evident in the early areas of the game, and nearing the end the storytelling seems to drop-off, less interaction with NPCs other than just talking to them for starting/completing a quest can make the game seems rather lonesome.

But that is not to say you cannot have 3 of your friends (or some random asshats that join your hosted game to steal your precious l00tz) play with you in online co-op type gameplay. One thing to add to the online of this game is...ummm...you can..."aquire", the game however you want, and as long as you have a gamespy account, can play online without a hitch *wink* *wink*

Overall, I am still playing it, since once you complete the game, you can play through it a second time on a harder difficulty (similar to lets say, Diablo 2) but only ONE other difficulty other than normal :/

Or just start a new class and try out their abilities to find what is right for you.

So..."get" the game, and make a gamespy account (its free...but I know, it is Gamespy -.-) and catch a ride! complete some quests! and blow up badass enemies!.

Currently have a 41 hunter on PC version.

Probably a case of the winter madness. Too many high profile games jammed into a few months. Between that and trying to find a job and relocate while finishing the last of my freelance gigs in a rush has left my gaming time utterly annihilated for the past month or two otherwise I'd have picked it up for PC already.

Maybe it's just because I like RPG's more than shooters. But I played Borderlands and stopped after about an hour. Because Fallout 3 was so epic, all I could think about was that, and started playing Fallout again.

To be honest the whole envoriment reminded me somewhat of fallout aswell, but since i'm an ex diablo junkie this game is seriously feeding my addiction of random generated items with versatile stats. I.E rocket launchers with high capacity and over the top fire speed makes it a rocket machine gun =)

Played it in LAN with a couple of friends. Great fun. Especially going into Berserk mode.

Unfortunately, I don't have a PC that can do games.

Mad Moxie's Underdome Riot came out today, and I have been playing it madly...the only issue I am seeing with Borderlands + downloadable content is that it is REALLY hard to find other people playing the content. If i search in matches it only tells you the players main story quest (will never include DLC) so we are kinda left in the dark to find other players.

I am kinda stuck on the last arena for the starter challenges, and wish I could find other players playing it too.

I had never even heard of Global Agenda until now, personally I play fantasy RPGs and Borderlands is a fantastic game if you like to combine first person shooter combat with RPG element character customizations and leveling.

As for MMOs, I am waiting on GW2 before anything else.

Check some game sites, and read some reviews on both games.

Go for Borderlands. If you have a friend. Otherwise it gets boring.

Lolz! This is very addictive game, have played a bit too much since i got it, having now 29 lvl soldier. But i have now a problem: i read from somewhere, that you need the steam edittion of Borderlands to get those add-ons, but i bought it from a store, so do you now, can i get those add-ons?

check around the Borderlands website/forums, they have 2 methods of getting the addons, 1 is from online retailers and the other is from regular retailers, there is a certain method, but I use Xbox for borderlands so I never really had to worry about that.

global agenda if fucking fantastic. if you enjoy games like TF2 or Tribes you'll love it. and the pay to play portion is very optional. makes it very easy to only pay or a month here and there when you're good an set up for a go at the conquest map. gameplay is very smooth and far deeper than most games out there.

borderlands is good, but after you finish the second playthrough the game is all out of replay. pvp is pretty much whoever lands the first hit, so it gets dumb fast. also having no randomization aside from loot makes the game grow stale in a hurry after the shiny new game feel wears off.

Secret Armor of General Knoxx launches for PS3 today!

I think it's already out for 360.

Can't wait!

Level cap to level 61, new weapons, new enemies, new vehicles, and LOTS of missions (twice as big as Dr. Ned DLC)

PS:Hi. I luv borderlands and am a level 48 Berserker. I play with my partner who is a level 48 Soldier.

if the game had gone with random level generation it'd have been a million times better. still i played the shit out of it.

if anyone is playing siren: try using sledge's shotgun with phoenix.

how the heck would random level generation make the game better?

I happen to really enjoy the level design in this game.

random level generators are generally generic and boring.

also: anyone else loving General Knoxx DLC? I'm overleveld to 55 so far and have found some fantastic new weapons :)

I finished it too fast and found a (crappy) pearlescent weapon and can't get people together to fight the secret final boss.

Bah. Now i'm having one lvl 50 soldier, 38 lvl hunter, 25 lvl berserker and 26 lvl siren, and im starting to get really bored to this game. Borderlands would be more interesting and more popular, if the leveling system wouldn't be from asshole. When i was playing first time the Destroyer, my soldier was lvl 36, and it took about 20 seconds to kill it. I mean, that the game would be a hundred times better if you wouldn't get levels so fastly. Here is an interesting thing in Borderlands:

And for playing Knoxx, well, if i would have my own bank account, i would already have it, but when i don't have my own bank account, so i dont have Knoxx... With that secret final boss, do you mean Crawmerax the Invincible? Here's a video from it, maybe it helps.

It is not that easy to kill him...and that guy also did the "armory" glitch a ton of times to get all the gear he currently has.
