Title: Ransom Note
Post by: Sirix on October 21, 2007, 04:41:27 pm
a friend of mine has been working on this (http://www.ransomnotemusic.com/default.aspx) site for about a year now and just had his official launch on Friday.

This is a Live Music wiki community site wherein you add information, pictures, videos, reviews etc about artists and when their shows will be and then check to see which of your friend's are attending and discuss (if you so please).

also: for everything you contribute to the site you get points (there is a point value chart on the site).  You can use your points to enter contests for prizes.  The more points you enter the more likely you are to win.  Just a small bonus to the already potentialy great site.

I think it's a great idea and a pretty good beta version... all it's missing right now is a good solid community, so I figured maybe i'd try to get you guys interested for a little foreign participation.

I've already added Machinae Supremacy and a picture for them.

Let me know what ya think, ;)

How come when I type in an artist and press enter nothing happens? Do they expect me to actually go through the effort of moving my mouse to the search button?!

Other than that... Looks pretty cool.

No offence to your friend, but the site looks really ugly. It's designed for 1024x768, it doesnt fit to width, it stays in the top left corner and the layout and colours just dont work.

Firstly, it needs a background, it needs to fit to width or center on the screen, and he needs to lose the bold lines around the tables, because it looks too clunky.

Good coding, but it just doesnt look user-friendly at all.

Oh, and essentially it's already been done before at a MUCH larger scale (last.fm has a wiki-ish section for upcoming gigs)

yeah, he discovered Last.FM about half-way through the creation of the site.
But he felt that his site would be much more focused and really concentrate on being
able to see which friends are attending as well as the other information.

as for the rest of the criticisms: arr, I also felt it was a little non-user-friendly.  But it's in its very beginnings, only just now hauling itself
from its embryotic sac.

feedback like this is exactly what he needs.

You can do that on lastfm.

I like the design, the only thing I don't like is the font for the tables. Something a little thinner and less computer-looking would work.

I dunno if there's any way to get a background behind the calendar table, but it'd be neat to have one. Only problem with the colors is the search bar. Yellow doesn't work very well with the browns and beiges.

So my friend found this discussion via google before I had the chance to link him to it.

he thanks everyone for their criticism and is doing is best to improve the site.

this site is still in beta (like, ultra beta), so yeah, it'll get better :)

maybe someday I'll revive this thread if the site really takes off.

haha, indeed you are!

I actually typed "Corry Jm", then realized that that meant nothing to you, so replaced it with Sirix.
