Title: Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Post by: Chronologix on October 19, 2007, 04:11:27 am
I have been playing the demo alot lately, over and over, and im lucky enough to be able to run it on max settings and 1280x1024.

The demo itself is pretty crazy, the movements, the animations, the AI, everything just makes this one stand out from all other FPS games i have played so far. If you are a CoD fan, or just a FPS fanm you should really check it out.

I got a beta token for the 360 version, but never got to redeem it because my school won't allow Live.  :-\ I can't wait to pick this up, though.

i'm definitely enjoying the demo as well; seems they haven't made any tweaks to the "hey there's an enemy behind that low wall" system since CoD2, but it's definitely refreshing to use an ak-47 instead of an MP40 (fond of the ww2 armaments though i am)

Ya but now, you can be all like "there is an enemy behind that low wall...but now i can shoot THROUGH that low wall!"

i actually didn't catch onto it at first, but one of the enemies ducked on a balcony, and i shot through it and took him out.

I had the beta and loved it. This is most certainly a buy. Getting it for 360 on the release day.

It was an OK shooter. Really focused on the chaotic battlefield. Probably not a game I'm buying but it held its pace a while.

Just finished it up tonight, and i have to say, it is my favorite of all the CoD series, it has alot of movie like qualities and alot of "o shit" moments.

I recommend it :D

Same as Half-Life 2: episode two imo, nothing really new, short, but really high quality and entertaining stuff. The loading screens stood up and impressed atleast me, never seen nothing like that and they really pumped up the atmosphere. Multiplayer is really a blast also. :)

I WANNA TRY THIS GAME

One of my favpourite games for the 360 ever. Excellence all around. The SP was short but ph-so-sweet (LOVEd the graphics in that short part *SPOILZ*after the nuke had blown up. The graphics in that part was simply astounding.. The multiplayer was even better though, even though they had nefred the M4 since the beta. the M16 makes up for it in the beggining, and once you get your hands on teh G36C and M14, you're pretty much unstoppable. The ranking system far exceeds the ones in Halo 3 and Rainbow 6: Vegas.
It even manages to give Halo 3 MP a run for it's money, and even though the matchmaking and party systems isn't quite as good as H3's are, the gameplay makes up for it big time, it's TONS of fun. Really fast paced combat in a whole lot of good levels (somthing H3 lacked..).

I Recommend this even if yuo don'y have XBL, since the SP simply must be played.

Amazing stuff all around. as expected. Best CoD ever, best modern combat game ever (beats BF2, R6Vegas and pretty much alll other similar games I've played. A must have.

if you denied access to any partition of this games content you should go on a rampage until your demands are met.

Playing online kicks some ass (even more-so on the PC), and preferably i would play this over Halo 3...but that might just be me. Achievements, Challenges, Ranks, etc. just seem more interesting to get in CoD4 than Halo as well. Overall a very enjoyable experience :D

The single-player is extremely well put together too....such a sad ending, and i can't say that about many games, even if other games TRY to make a sad ending, doesn't always do the trick.

Definitely not worth the money because of the short length of the game no matter how polished and fun that ~5 hours may be. I thought the multiplayer was pretty standard and not interesting myself. I prefer games with much larger maps and objective gameplay. Crysis's power struggle is something I considerably prefer to this.

So since you are objective towards the map sizes etc. you think it is not worth the money? hardly. The map size is fine for the Xbox, for PC on the other hand, having a total of 64 people in a small map is rather fast paced and could use a change, but it is still definitely worth the money. The multiplayer gameplay is standard for CoD series gaming, which there is nothing wrong with, you don't need something brand new in every game if it is not completely necessary. I can't get enough of the multiplayer, and finally may have found my favorite weapon for MP :)

Think i like about CoD4 is the way they actually make you need the use of tactics in the sort of way you have to use your brain instead of muscle attitude, that made a diffrence for me from the old CoD games to this one.
As an old military soldier, i was trained in street combat, and house searches, and by actually using the tactics ive learned, they people around me work the same way, and i can easily read what their next move will be, and that gives a more realistic feel to it. So i like the game in total, with the grafics, feel of "i wanna freaking nail that bastard to the wall". You want to fight, and that urges makes a game feel good to play, to give you that kick!:P

So since you are objective towards the map sizes etc. you think it is not worth the money?

No - I specifically said I don't think its worth the money because the game is so short. I find the idea of paying full price for something so short is rather offensive to me. Perhaps I could consider it worth $20-25 but definitely not $50.

By that reasoning, Unreal Tournament isn't worth anything :P

I'm gonna get this soon, as well as UT3...possibly. TF2 is sorta doing a good job as my only online game atm.

Does that mean you'd expect discounts from a midget prostitute? even if they give REALLY good head?

And it isn't worth anything to me. I don't like frag fest multiplayer nor the objective capture point thingy mode that they had in the last one. I'm a fan of large scale warfare that is tactical and strategic as opposed to fragging things while running around. And no, I don't like the Battlefield series either - still not large enough scale or deep enough gameplay to hold my interest. To do it they'd need planetary scale at least but preferably solar system scale with fleets starships and starbases to fight it out as well as assaulting planets. That is about all that would do it for me. :P

Does that mean you'd expect discounts from a midget prostitute? even if they give REALLY good head?

I'd expect them to pay me for the opportunity.

It is the best multiformat shooter...ever. Pretty much. Plus, even if you can't run Crysis well you can quite possibly run this at max on PC. I know I can, which is why I bought it over Crysis despite Crysis offering so much delicious freedom and awesome gameplay.

i can play Crysis on low on 1280x1024 with no problems at all...but going to medium starts to choke it to death...

Oddly i can run max CoD4 EXCEPT for sniper scopes....if i use anything else its fine, but when scoped with a sniper it lags when there is grass around :/

I'm not used to how this game works, I like solid cover that's there to hide behind when I need it. I like to be able to run out and finish off any who've survived my firefights that I initiate. I don't expect all the enemies to re-spawn constantly D: And they see me from so far away, and I can't usually find anywhere decent to hide as there doesn't really seem to be anywhere decent to hide when they always ignore my team mates and shoot at me exclusively :x Unless I've been messing up stealth missions...but I'm not exactly sure how stealth is supposed to work in this game.

Oh well, at least I've added a couple more hours onto the game this way...

basically, you're a pussy :P

If you play it on normal tactics just go out the window and the game loses what makes it so damn great. The whole point is that you need to be using all the cover you can and can't just walk around blowing people away. There is plenty of solid cover, just make sure you're behind brick walls rather than wooden fences or whatever.

This does not apply to multiplayer all the time though...Perk 3 Slot: Deep Penetration > Brick Walls, i personally like the fact you never feel safe :P (because the enemy feels the same way...and when they do feel safe they tend to leave themselves open :))

EDIT: If anyone else plays the PC version, just put your in-game names here and they can be added to CoD4tracker, and people can find games your in very easily.

Im not going to add spoilers so i am going to keep the comment vague, but i like that one mission near the end...you know the one like "Ummmm...WE HAVE A PROBLEM HERE!"

My favorite level is All Ghillied Up, hands down. Trying to be all stealthy the whole time is awesome. Plus, you get to use a .50 cal sniper to facerape a Russian guy.

/me casts raise dead on CoD4 thread.

I just bought this game on steam, along with BioShock, since I have a new computer that can handle it. OH MY GOD, awesome! :D

My favorite singleplayer mission was Mile High Club, just because it was so unexpected.
I also looooved Shock and Awe, though.

I've started playing some multiplayer too, and getting owned pretty badly on some maps. There are sooo many places to hide. The levelup/ranking system is sooo addictive, I can't even go to the bathroom. Also loving some of the challenges ;D "fall 30 feet to your death" :O

I'm retardedly close to having a 2-to-1 Kill/Death Ratio on CoD4 Multiplayer, on XBL.

And yes, Mile High Club is so much fun. I had to run it for hours though, to figure out specifically what to do. It's so fast paced.

I'm still working on the one where you kill someone by running into them with a baking grenade.

Anybody tried 1.6 patch yet? looks immense!

Patch? There's any new patch? I didn't notice. I stopped playing CoD 4 multiplayer a while ago. Right now I'm goofing around in single player missions, doing silly things like trying to pass All Ghillied Up on veteran while making as much destruction as possible - shooting down all helicopters, killing eveyone on the way (and I mean, everyone. Even if that means going 1vs30 on them [MacMillan is a pansy, he rarely helps in taking them down]), and the like. Now that made CoD 4 challenging. I wonder if anyone tried that before. I'd record that and put on YouTube if I wasn't too lazy to figure out how to do that.

Multiplayer > Singleplayer by far

I love the new maps. Creek, Chinatown and Killsomethingbox or whatever are all great. Not so fond of broadcast though, but it's still decent.

Chinatown is nice because the visual style is such a breath of fresh air, even if the layout is the same as Carentan of CoD 2. Thing is, the night time lighting makes it seem a lot more claustrophobic and closed in. It's niiice. Creek I like because the terrain is interesting (hills and cliff pathways, caves and riverbeds.). Some slaughter goes on in that damn cave.

So basically get the 1.6 patch now as it is excellent.

Ok, so I downloaded the patch and played the new maps a bit. For some reason I couldn't find any server on Broadcast, or whatever that 4th map is called, but I thoroughly checked the rest. Killhouse is really hectic in free for all. It's even worse than Shipment. I loved chinatown. Just look at it. It's beautiful. CoD4 suddenly went Counter-Strike on that one (remember cs_backalley?), with all that camping and sneaking going on... And since I'm all for stealth, I cannot say I like it, due to heightened players' awareness. Creek also looks pretty nice. Overall, I'd say it's a great map pack :)

I'd throw my Xbox 360 out of a window before I play that level on Veteran again.
God, that was hell.

I really hate Chinatown, but Killhouse is my favorite map. I've yet to learn all the hiding/sniper spots on any other map, so I guess that's why :D

I'm facing some hard challenges now. I'm supposed to kill someone by tossing flash/stun/frag directly on them. :O
I think that actually happened to me before, but I hadn't unlocked those challenges yet ;D

Having 2 Xboxes hooked up in the same room is great for achievements like that. YAY CHEATING.

I don't think I've ever actually "completed" that challenge, but I have done it before.
I remember once on Countdown, I randomly slung a Stun halfway across the map, and a few seconds later it gave me a grenade-to-face kill.

It's time like that when I wish I had a capture card. :D

As much as I hate camping... On Creek, check out the very top of a broken roof of the house located on a higher ground on the edge of the map. You can get there by going up a steep stairway in one of the rooms and then by jumping on it through one of the holes in it. Don't think many people know of this by now as I've never seen anyone sitting there yet, and it's a nice sniping position, since it overlooks half of the map.

What about smoke grenade? Hey, that's actually a good question. I don't recall hurting anyone by tossing it on them. Protip: it's easiest to complete that achievement by tossing grenades at people using Last Stand abiity. At least I think that worked two patches ago.

I'm sick and tired of my "Ghost" config. I can't kill anyone with it anymore. I think It's time I got back to my uberleet M4 of mayhem. Watch out world, here comes Cadrin.  ^^

Hah, I've seen people up there, but apparently they didn't see me. I sniped someone who was camping up there using my mini uzi from halfway across the map, it was beautiful.

Anyone who played CoD2 knows it, since after all the map is practically identical to the Cerentan map...with minor detailing.

And also a quick bug/glitch for anyone who just wants to screw around:

When using a class with Last Stand, use Smoke Grenades as your special grenades, throw your frags normally and try and get a kill, then switch to your Smoke Grenade and walk around with the pin pulled....when you die, you will fall into Last Stand and your grenade will magically change to a Frag :)

Uhhh... I think you're referring to Chinatown, not Creek.

The sniper spot on the rooof of the so called 'broken building' is fairly well known on XBL CoD4, I've seen plenty of people sitting up there.
The problem is that you can only get one or two good shots off before someone finds out and tells his team about you, after that you're fucked, since there's virtually no good cover, all you can do is run to the other side, or jump down.

Also: Anyone in here play Hardcore Team Deathmatch alot?

I want to play more, specifically because as a sniper it's a bitch to be found. ;D
