Title: Anime!
Post by: Sirix on March 19, 2007, 05:01:36 am
1. Cowboy Bebop 10
2. Neon Genesis Evangelion 8
3. Hayao Miyazaki Films 7
3. Samurai Champloo 7
3. Full Metal Alchemist 7
4. Trigun 6
5. Death Note 5
6. FLCL 4
6. Hellsing 4
6. Wolf's Rain 4
6. Jin-Roh 4

Special Mention: Naruto

i've decided that if an anime gets 4 mentions it makes it to the list.
anything less and it stays off for now.
I have a notepad saved with the polls, so i'll update this as regularly as I can.

and yes, i'm aware that I put the same name.  The obvious reason being it's a tie.

edit: I'm also now going to include a "special mention" of the week here.
any anime that has at least 2 votes will be posted as a special mention for a week, recomending to check it out and see if its votes can rise.

Here's a list of anime I love:

Neon Genesis Evangelion (All time favourite by far for me <3)
Cowboy Bebop
Samurai Champloo
Samurai 7
Naruto (Although like the manga a bit more, I think)
Hellsing (Can't wait for the ultimate to be finished, if it ever will be... :P)
Gundam Wing
Hayao Miyazaki's movies (Spirited Away, Tonari no Totoro etc.)
FMA is ok, I guess, but really like the manga more than the anime

At the moment I'm watching Cowboy Bebop, again, and also going through Death Note anime, but have kinda forgotten about it... Gonna watch a few episodes later today. ^^

My three favorite anime (at the moment) are

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya - This is just so zany yet powerful. It's as confusing as hell and is utterly random but when everything comes together you are left in awe at the brilliance of it, being adapted from a proper published series of books. It hasn't been released in the West yet but it's already earned a huge following.
Utawarerumono - Adapted from a game not unlike the playstyle of Disgaea, this is a story of a man permenantly stuck in a mask who gets wrapped up in a country's wars againt itself and the rest of the world. It's set in a fictional shogun-era Japan but all the characters are rather shounen like those in Naruto, FMA, etc
Kanon - old one. Adapted from a dating-game so the characters are overly cute. However through the short series you release somethings not right and the ending left me and my friend in tears. And it still does.

Here are some others I'd recommend:

Comedy: Excel Saga, Bokusatsu tenshi Dokoro-chan, Ouran High School Host Club
Action: Cowboy Bebop, Burst Angel, FMA, My-HiME, Shakugan no Shana, X, Trigun, Lyrical Nanoha
Romance: Love Hina, Hanbun no tsuki ga Noboru sora

Currently watching:
Mai-Otome

And for the future I'm gonna be watching and looking out for

Tsukihime Lunar Legend, Fate/Stay Night, Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS, Death Note

And how could I forget to say that any Ghibli film is godly! Plus, I've been to the Studio Ghibli Museum in Tokyo, so there :p

Since nobody has mentioned them yet, I'd like to recommend three animes I really like:

Trinity Blood: Cool steampunkish war between vampires and the Vatican.

Scryed: Wierd colorful superpowers, full of awesome characters and a nice storyline.

Wolf's Rain: My absolute favourite animes of all time. Beautifully drawn (and superb art direction), cool fights and a very very good story, first anime ever to make me cry. About a pack of wolves' hunt for paradise in a desolate post-apoc world.

I post some of my favourites:

Ranma ½
Fun comedy series about father who runs dojo and has three daughters. He needs successor for dojo and so marriage deal is sealed between one of his daughters and son of his friend. This son is soon to arrive from training trip in China with his father. But things are not that easy when you add there some ancient chinese magic/curse.

Trigun
Story about gun hero's adventures through faraway desert planet. He is entitled as nature's worst disaster, has massive bounty on his head and dark past. Series is funny, sad, optimistic, pessimistic, full of action and great themes. Loved this one, really.

Rurouni Kenshin
Time of date is 10 years from start of Meiji era. Kenshin, former samurai, gets into adventures where he must deal with his past and ideals. Series is in three arcs, totalling over 90 episodes. Humour is plenty and so is action. There's darker themes involved as well, mainly those involving Kenshin's past (released in two OVA's Trust and Betrayal).

Berserk
Story about mighty sword hero... Darker and more violent than any previous mentioned. Well... This is not funny but there's plenty of action.

Hellsing
Story is taking place in modern times. Organization Hellsing fights vampires and protects glory of queen. Their best weapon is their own vampire, Alucard... This series is not nearly as insane, funny and violent than original manga and it's not following story line either. Nevertheless very effective, ultra violent and enjoyable experience.

Cowboy Bebop
Story about starship Bebop and it's crew who will fight everything where bounty's involved. Funny, mad and packed with action and music. Still quieter (in positive spirit) and more dreamlike than previous mentioned.

Noir
Story of assassins. Dark story about assassins in criminal underworld. In places very effective, I liked it lot.

Initial D
Story of street racers of Japan. Funny series with full of hot cars and burning rubber. Carporn at it's best, I liked it lot.

Gravitation
Story about starting band, focusing mainly on life of Shuichi Shindou, lead singer of aforementioned band. Life, music and passion, that's what this series is of. Mostly funny but in places dark. Loved this one.

Wolf's Rain
Story about dark future, times when wolves are almost extinct. Dark and weird anime, I liked it although it's never grew to it's full potential.

Chobits
Story about college boy and his chobits. Chobits are artificial humans, robots or androids whose main function is to serve their masters. Romance, mostly - and funny, mostly.

EDIT : This one I almost forgot
Inuyasha
Demons, swords, medieval mysticism, magic, love, friendship, brutal violence, slight humour... This series got all. Made by Rumiko Takahashi, same lady who did Ranma½. Was bit of (positive) shock to find this series so different, wild and brutal when compared to Ranma½. Well balanced package of various themes, I liked a lot.

I post some of my favourites:

Initial D
Story of street racers of Japan. Funny series with full of hot cars and burning rubber. Carporn at it's best, I liked it lot.

+1 for mentioning best anime ever.

As for me, I like:

Initial D
Cowboy Bebop
Trigun
Love Hina
Samurai Champloo
Outlaw Star
Dragonball (original not Z)
Gundam Wing
Fullmetal Alchemist
Bleach and Naruto are okay, but Shonen always has too many fillers.
Ah! My Goddess (the 5 episode series was better than the 24 series)
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Ronin Warriors
Reboot

I'll probably end up remembering other ones later so I may end up editing this a few times. :P

I'm not a big anime watcher, though I have seen a couple, and I've liked most of what I've seen. Neon Genesis Evangelion, in particular, caught my fancy. I like mindfuckers like that one.

A list of what I've actually seen, and can remember having seen:
NGE (loved it)
Ghost in the Shell (the movie. I do actually have the series as well, I think. The movie was really good)
Kiki's Delivery Service (I got invited to an anime club by a friend, and they showed that one. It's a good childs movie, but didn't catch my fancy much)
Street Fighter (probably II V - quite fun, actually. I played SFII obsessively as a kid)
Pokemon (how could I not have managed to catch a few episodes of it? My brother was a huge fan. Catchy intro tune)

I noticed FLCL (also known as Furi Kuri) is not in ANY of your lists.
i'd label it as comedy/sci-fi/mindfuck.

it's only 6 episodes long and it's one of my most highly recomended.
CHECK
IT
OUT.

a lot of you seem to like Evangelion.
I got bored after awhile... it seemed like every other "i'm a teenager and I own a giant robot!" anime.
with a few interesting twists, I guess.
but not enough to really grab me.

Macross 7 was ultra cool for 2 episodes.
then, again... teenager in giant robot... and war/political animes bore the crap out of me.

and best Hayao Miyazaki film(IMO): Howl's Moving Castle
I enjoyed Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke quite a bit.
I was thoroughly dissapointed with Nausica of the valley of the wind.
I'm going to re-watch it with english subs sometime, instead of dubs.
I couldn't find the DVD remote and english was the default, so that's what I watched it in.
plus side: Uma Thurman voices the captain lady =D.

If i had a list... it would be in mine. I'm not a big anime watcher though. Let's see...

Neon Genesis Evangelion

Furi Kuri
Elfen Lied

That's about all I've watched. Good stuff though.

Let's see...

Elfen Lied, Full Metal Alchemist, Samurai Champloo, Cowboy Bebop...

I really want to watch the Kenshin series, as despite the fact it's not got the same tone as the awesome OVAs, I want to find out what happens afterwards :<

Also: Anyone happen to know if GITS:SAC 2nd GIG is any good? I just picked up three dvds for £20 in Virgin, for that simple pricely fact :x

Currently watching Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto as each episode is released and ever so slowly piling through all 110 eps of Legend of Galactic Heroes (Starships! Space! No mechs! Yay!).

Just watched through Crest of the Stars and Banner of the Stars 1-3. Starships! Space! No mechs! Yay! Other (somewhat) recently watched shows are: Ergo Proxy (HD anime is sexy!), Eureka Seven, Puni Puni Poemi, Raimuiro Senkitan, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Berserk, Blood+, and Fate Stay Night.

Cromartie High School (English dub actually makes it even more funny than in Japanese) and Irresponsible Captain Tylor (Starships! Space! No mechs! Yay!) are by far the most funny shows I've ever seen. Definitely must see animes. Probably my two favourites.

Yeah, series is 'bit more childlike than OVA's. It's good thou IMO. I mean, themes are not for kids, there's lots of violence and blood, drinking and stuff there still. It's just lighter, more optimistic and generally more humorous than two OVA's.  Just give it some time, it get's better as it progress. If you find that you don't like the anime try manga instead - it's pure dynamite! It's from completely other dimension all together. If you liked the series then it's even better!

And btw, there's still one extra OVA and movie existing. That extra OVA does not make much sense if you have not read the manga and it's done by fan support - I find it not generally fitting to other aspects of series, it's too fragmented IMO. But graphically it's far better than series. Movie is nice... I was hoping for more since we (me&wife) grew to be fans of Kenshin and so it's measured in "Kenshin" degrees which gives it unfairly low rating in our eyes. It's good thou... But you know how it goes. One comes more critical when one's grown to like something really, really much.

Yeah, seen it and I thought it was excellent. Absolutely genius, in fact. But there's so many I've seen, I only posted my favorites.

And today I watched the entirity of Mai-Otome. Being a follow-on (not a sequel cos it's not quite the same universe) of Mai-HiME, I was expecting it to be not as good. But I was wrong. It was just as good. Right on the same top par.

As for some of the more famous series: Evangelion I enjoyed, I cannot doubt that, I thought it was great, but I'm really sick of hearing about it and the constant obsession with it everywhere. It was good yeah, but jesus it wasn't anything more than many others. I read an interview from that dude that made it (name's escaped me :/) and he said "Evangelion is still the most advanced anime even after all these years". I thought, get your ass off your high horse. You had a nervous breakdown and now you think you made the greatest animated feature ever. Fuck off.

I don't tend to go for the big shounen series. DBZ is dire, I've avoided Naruto, Bleach and Rurorin Kenshin the the best I can and Gundam is the same every single time (except Destiny, though that's no better). As for Initial D, I want to stab my eyeballs out... However I would advise looking out for Jing King of Bandits and D'Grayman. Sometimes even I like Shounen Jump.

FLCL is a real gem... i recommend it

other good series
Trigun
Cowboy Bepop
Sunabouzu/Desert Punk
Neon Genesis Evangelion
DearS
Kiba
Samurai Champloo
sadly I can't remember all good series...

I've begun to dislike all these "ancient japan" timeline series but samurai champloo is an exception  :P

Ginga Nagareboshi Gin! (Known as Silver Fang in Sweden, and as Hopeanuoli in Finland.) I'm surprised that no one mentioned this. Although it probably isn't that familiar to anyone else but finns, swedes and koreans, since it's originally released only in those three countries (besides Japan of course). I don't even know if there is any english-fansub-version of it, still less a DVD. I've been a fan since the ancient finn-dubbed and brutally edited VHS's which I first saw in 1991 or something. It was so amazing to see the whole uncut story when it was released on DVD in 2003.

The sequel, Ginga Densetsu Weed, was also quite enjoyable. But GNG has too much nostalgic value, nothing can ever be better series as a whole. The music, knowing every detail and remembering the plot by heart, and still wanting to watch it over and over again. And btw, Akame=hawt! <3

(Hmm, that got a bit out of hand, my apologies)

My other favourites in the world of anime are for example all the Ghibli-studio's films (especially Totoro, Spirited Away and Mononoke Hime), Visions Of Escaflowne, NGE, .hack//SIGN, Kaikan Phrase, Digimon, Full Metal Alchemist, Alfred J. Kwak and of course Moomin. :)

The most mentioned ones are probably going to be the most common ones though. I think we should also have a list of hidden gems, animes that not many people know about but are good nonetheless. I haven't heard of some of these animes myself but I would probably check them out if a number of people backed them up on how good they were.

I've just gotten a workmate into Trigun. I saw it a few years back and I still love it. I don't watch as much anime as I used to, I'm having trouble finding a new series to really get into since I finished Chobits. I'm halfway through Strawberry Panic (its not great, but its good "comfort" viewing) and about 10 eps in to Mai-Hime, which is alright, but isn't going anywhere much yet. I've just gotten the second Hellsing OVA to watch, I love the series so this is a must watch for me :)

I think my problem is when I first got into anime, I liked the really "girly" ones, like Sailor Moon, and the odd Clamp series. Now I've grown out of that I'm not sure where to look next.

@Spider Chii - some recommendations from those series I mentioned:

Wolf's Rain. It's impressive, dark and beautiful and there's enough bishounen to make it little sweet to watch. Serious series, mostly. Drawn very well... Every second is like watching painting, really. It's only something like 20 episodes, easy to watch.

Ranma½ is quite weird, funny and... well, I liked it a lot, just like my wife did. There's little romance, little mild cartoon king-fu violence, dirty old men, gender swapping fun, weird situations and pretty much everything. Comedy series, mostly. It's only... something like 161 episodes or something? Very long series, some like 7 seasons I think. I've not even seen all episodes, I've read it as manga and got 4 seasons in DVD-boxes (plus some movie and OVA's). Funny stuff, thou.

Inuyasha might be good pick as well. There's mystical things, magic, romance, comedy, swords and quite brutal violence, practically everything. Serious series with slight comedy to balance the outcome. If you like fantasy things this would be very strong pick. This one's also 167 episodes or something. I've seen about 100 episodes and I liked it lot. I'm going to restart it some day and watch it all the way through. Damn... Did I mention Inuyasha in my original post? If not then it's mistake I must correct!

Only reason I put Ranma½ and Inuyasha on halt is because we got kid and it literally sucks all of our freetime. When he gets older we'll continue our hobbies on larger volumes. Until then I'm happy to know there's so much good stuff awaiting us :D

BAD GRAVEHILL.
BAD!

I'M NOT ADDING INUYASHA TO THE LIST EVER

I liked it for the first 10 episodes... then any mild potential it could have had is wasted on absolutely useless filler.
it's one of those animes where you keep expecting GREAT fight scenes, then Inuyasha just hauls backlash waves out of his ass left and right... and then they repeat themselves even more than Naruto.

"he will need the backlash wave to defeat this enemy..."
"you mean he will need the BACKLASH wave to win?"
"yes, you are very smart kagome, you figured out that he will need the backlash wave to win this battle"
"so he'll need the backlash wave... oh inuyasha"
*Cut to inuyasha fighting*
"he'll need to get that backlash wave so he can win"
"yes kagome, he will need the backlash wave or else he will perish
"the back lash wave is your only hope inuyasha!"
"yes inuyasha, please master th--[anger]OH SHUT THE F*** UP YOU USELESS GAWD DAMN ANIMETARDS.

the first two seasons of Digimon rocked so hard.

there is something utterly addicting about watching battles and watching the characters capture new pokemon.

season 3 has out right nudity.

kinda.
they'd fuse with their digimon or something, and get all naked but smooth everywhere and glowy blue.

also: what the HELL is it with people and implementing cards into shows and video games?
what the hell is with cards? they all SUCK like crazy... only decent one was Kingdom Hearts: Chain of memories.

that wasn't as off topic as it seemed to those who didn't see Digimon season 3... they used cards to pump their digimon... anyway... *die*

I've seen only 3 complete series of them animes.

Full Metal Alchemist

'twas rather decent until the 45th episode or so. It turns a bit grim there, I mean, the atmosphere gets a wee bit serious.

I'd hit **** / 5 for it.

Cowboy Bebop

Definitely worth buying on DVDs/getting with "other methods".

I couldn't stop watching after I saw the first 3 episodes or so :D this did the trick for me, absolutely.

****½ / 5 for it.

Trigun

I watched it. It was interesting to say the least. I'd say this is a rather easygoing anime series, apart from 2 or 3 episodes.

I'd hit 4* / 5 for this also.

Gonna get Hellsing and Inuyiahsa or however it's written :P

I started watching Wolf's Rain the other day, seen 5 episodes and really love it byfar. Everything is almost perfect in it, drawing style is beautiful, voice actors and music are just great, too. It's made by the same studio as Cowboy Bebop, so It's not really a suprise it's a quality work. :)

I can recommend this to everyone, especially if you like Cowboy Bebop. ^^

There's only a few dubbed animes I like, Initial D and Full Metal Alchemist. Cowboy Bebop wasn't too bad either. Other than that it has to be subbed. :P

Me too, me too! Except that I finished watching the series yesterday and am going at episode six on my second time through. I wasn't quite prepared for the whole wolves-looking-like-humans thing, but once I got used to it the only minor gripe I had with the series was that I think it would've been better had the wolves been shown more in their true form. Especially when they were out in the wild with no humans around.

Other than that one very small detail I absolutely loved the series. Goes straight to the top-few of my all time favourite series along with Samurai Champloo, Cowboy Bebop, and Neon Genesis Evangelion.

EDIT: Oh yeah, I forgot. Didn't Gravehill post something with a wolf looking like a human, much like in Wolf's Rain, in the thread for funny dreams?

Dubbed versus subbed?

Personally, I'd go with subbed any day of the week, there are a few exceptions to this though:

I've watched Hellsing dubbed, which was acceptably done. Also the Cowboy Bebop movie was quite excellently dubbed IMO.

Hellsing dub was awful, crappy english accents for the lose :( I watch most stuff dubbed if its fairly new (Trigun, Chobits, GitS: SaC), the older stuff like Ranma I watch subbed though. English voice acting is getting a lot better. Most of my anime watching these days is fabsub though.

No matter what is the case I always prefer subbed over dubbed. I love the sound of japanese language, it's one of the most beautiful languages in world. For me the original voices are part of the work, it's how it's meant to be watched/heard. I've seen some animes with dubs and some of them were watchable but most of them just did not feel quite right. When I've later seen some of those animes with subs they have felt generally better but never worse. There's no real advantage in dubbing for me, for kids it's other thing and for those who are accustomed for dubs. For example in Germany almost all movies and other stuff is dubbed. Reading texts might be too distracting at first if you've not done it before.

I prefer dubbed when they do a good job such as Full Metal Panic or Cowboy Bebop. Otherwise subbed all the way.
Title: Re: Anime!
Post by: Sirix on March 25, 2007, 01:53:26 am
dubbed is rarely well done.

only situation I find it was is in Final Fantasy: Advent Children.
excellent dubs.
except when Tifa say "dilly dally shilly shally!" instead of "zulu zulu, zulu zulu" (drifting drifting, drifting drifting).
it practicaly ruined the whole english dub for me.
besides that some of the voices are dead on, and the ones that aren't are fairly good anyway.
especialy since FFVII was in english for what I can only guess 100% of us.
Title: Re: Anime!
Post by: Gyokuro on March 26, 2007, 06:08:51 pm
I prefer subbed, since I haven't bumped into a good dubbing. Prob. would be ok if it's well done, but still I'd like to hear the original voice talents as they are part of the anime. And a voice of character tells something about him/her, so with different tone of speaking the character might seem a bit different... That might just be me tho. ^^;

And some anime I like/ have seen lately ( not in any specific order):

1. Saikano
2. Chrno Crusade
3. Ah! My Goddess
4. PlanetES
5. Karas
6. Haibane Renmei
7. Cowboy Bebop

There's few, atm I'm watching Ah! My Goddess tv2 (AA! Megami-sama ~ sorezore no Tsubasa) and Black Blood Brothers.

I got it as DVD... The Wolf Brigade. Dark and stylish, well drawn. It was ok but somehow it just was not "my favourite" quality. I mean : it's well written, well drawn, atmospheric and all but somehow it just did not hit the bullseye in my case. I'm going to watch it again, possibly multiple times, thou.

It's funny when you think about it. Have anyone watched some anime and, despite fact that everything is well done, it just does not hit the spot? The Wolf Brigade is one of those cases. I just did not get as exited from it as I would have expected.
Title: Re: Anime!
Post by: Gyokuro on April 01, 2007, 02:22:33 pm
Jin-Roh is good, it has well done, dark, gloomy atmosphere. And the drawing style is nice too,but iirc the characters are drawn slighty emotionless. I might be wrong, watched it about 2 years ago.
I usually try to look for anime series that I'd like and that they'd hit the spot for me, and yet I haven't bumped into a anime that wouldn't have been ok for me, might also be because I haven't watched anime THAT long(About 5 years), so haven't seen that many series, but if I'd look for a series that aren't the thing for me I'd find them quite easily... I think.

I think you both made your point clear : other loves, other thinks it's worthless piece of shit.

Leissi : Nice to see that you like it as well. I think too it's good series. Don't argue about taste issues thou, it's pointless. Everyone has their own taste and other one's honey it's other ones shit and vice versa. Some like certain animes and some does not. Let's talk about animes, not our tastes.

Sirix : You already told us why you don't like Inuyasha. The first one you made (about backlashes) told pretty much all  necessary about your opinion, with arguments, about show. When someone says that he/she liked it you don't always have to get "ass raping equipment" (including scudmissiles) which you so eagerly mention in your posts from your closet. We know that you don't like the show and your further posts only lessen the value of your first post which actually had some point in it. Inuyasha really bothers you and I feel your pain, now let it be. Let them who like it like it and watch it and tell their opinion as well.

I watched Naruto, and now I'm watching Naruto Shippuden. I've also watched Inuyasha, Vandread and Vandread: The Second Stage to the end. I've watched, but have yet to finish, Full Metal Alchemist and Cowboy Bebop. Lastly, I've watched small bits of One Piece, Bleach, Death Note and Elfen Lied, and I'm downloading Gundam Seed right now. Not sure if I'll watch more of the first ones, perhaps Bleach. Didn't like Elfen Lied.

EDIT: Also watched some seasons of Pokémon, and I've seen parts of a few episodes of Final Fantasy: Unlimited.

I liked the backlash post. I reminds me of a standard joke we have around here.
Someone utters a fact like for instance "I'm gonna google for it". And it gets repeated until everyone is bored.
P1 "I'm gonna google for it"
P2 "YOU are gonna google for it."
P1 "Yeah I'm gonna google for it."
P2 "So, you gonna google for it."
P3 "He's gonna google for it?"
P2 "He's gonna google for it."
P1 "I'm gonna google for it."
P3 "He's gonna google for it!"
...

This can go on for minutes in good conditions.

Bought Grave of the Fireflies the other day, loved it. Probably the most depressing anime movie I have ever watched. :p The story takes place in Japan, at the end of WWII when the US is bombing Japan cities. Anyone who likes Studio Ghibli stuff and hasn't seen it yet ought to check it out. Also borrowed Cowboy Bebop movie from my sister, that was good too. Maybe not as great as the series all in all, but still, awesome stuff.

Yeah, I've seen it and I love it:

My three favorite anime (at the moment) are

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya - This is just so zany yet powerful. It's as confusing as hell and is utterly random but when everything comes together you are left in awe at the brilliance of it, being adapted from a proper published series of books. It hasn't been released in the West yet but it's already earned a huge following.

Whichever order you watch it in it's amazing, so I implore that you watch the rest of the series ASAP. You won't regret it.

There's two ways to watch it: One is just watching the series through as given. And the other is in chronological order. So what happens is that ep 1 is actually 6 (I think) chronologically, 2 is 1 and the way through to the last ep 14 which is 6 chronologically (in this order you see the big finale not even half way through ;)). They're all adapted from a light novel series, but the anime places stories from later novels in between the main story (of the first novel). This is why Haruhi's announcements at the end of the episode is different (except for one episode :P) from Kyon's - they aren't random, it's telling you how to watch it in a different order.

Anyway, showing my fanboiism here. Go watch :P

+: Oh, and I haven't a clue what that anime/whatever is Freak. Sorry.

Er.... no, it had nothing to do with guitars at all. You can check it out here (http://alloftv.net/index.php?contetn=episodes&show=424&season=1) (they don't have all of them, but you can find them with a quick search around youtube, should be 24)

Its basically about a japanese businessman that gets captured by pirates (modern, not the 'yo ho ho' kind  :P) on a business trip in the southeast, but through a number of events in the first few episodes, he ends up joining them. A good series for those that are huge action buffs (which I'm sure most of us are  :) )
