Like LionNinja recently asked me, "Aurin, so you like visual stuff?" Betcha sweet ass I do. I don't know how many of you guys & gals take an interest in some creative action, maybe some of you like painting like me, perhaps you're musicians yourself or maybe you like to write stories or poems... whatever.
What I'd like to ask is, does music ever insipire you in your work? If not, why? And if it does, what kind of music or which bands? You could also possibly have a favourite track or lyrics you keep close to your heart, what is it?
Myself I'm totally musically unskilled, but as numerous MaSu's songs, music gives me sometimes very strong "vibes" that make me feel almost utterly visually creative. Sonata Arctica, Wintersun, Mew, ambient music...
I hope I didn't end up sounding too weird, but if you know the feeling of as if everything was rushing into your head at once... You should know what I'm talking about. ;P
And I'm sorry if something as kind-of-lame and such basic as this was posted sometime in the near past, I was just wondering.

Yeah music has kept me from insanity for many years but also drove me to it at one point in my life, those were dark days indeed... now a days i listen to very ambient stuff to help me relax, rock to give me an upbeat feeeling in my soul and 'Stomp' music to get me geared up for a night out (good example of 'stomp' music is PowerMan 5000)

AND THIS IS WHAT ITS LIKE WHEN WORLDS COLIDEEEE!
Music gets me inspired and motivated sometimes, It depends what mood i'm in when I listen to it, And also what drugs i'm on.

Why do people fail so hard sometimes...
-
Anything classical or instrumental works a treat.
-
I can't write a thing without some ambient music. Kinda makes exams tricky.
-
Metal helps me focus.

There are lots of creative things I want to do, but I don't excel much at any of them.
On the other hand, music pretty much controls my life and the state of my mind. Of course, I control what music I listen to (http://www.modarchive.com/cgi-bin/download.cgi/N/nb_oafk4.s3m), so hah (http://www.modarchive.com/cgi/download.cgi?T/td-3by4.xm). Music that works this way is my favorite kind (http://www.modarchive.com/cgi-bin/download.cgi/W/w-tpv.it), and I always look for it (http://www.modarchive.com/cgi-bin/download.cgi/V/vibe-to2.it). I generally group music after how they "feel (http://file.cerapter.net/Elisha%20-%20Above%20And%20Beyond.mp3)" and not genre or anything else. MaSu (http://music.machinaesupremacy.com/jng/23-machinae_supremacy-flames_of_fire.ogg) is the prime contributor of the "Power (http://remix.kwed.org/download.php/1356/Glyn%20R%20Brown%20-%20Firelord%20-%20Symphonic.mp3)" category.

I write badly. I listen to music while writing.
-
I can only write when inspiration hits, and usually I get hit by inspiration when I can't write.

Trez, thats so true.

Well not to sound too cliche, but MaSu definitely inspires me. It takes me out of a bad mood if I'm in one, or raises my already jolly disposition. :D *insert santa laugh here*

Same here, if I know its gonna be a shit day at work I pop Machinae on in my little office to give me a bit of a confidence boost and take it all in stride.

Rhapsody and Ayreon make me want to play guitar. I can't actually write music yet, but its technically inspiration.
Also, I find that metal (usually viking/Nordic, etc.) helps me make crazy dancing robots.

For some reason, music in another language - primarily japanese - seems to help me work better than that with lyrics I understand. Maybe because I'm not focusing on them, and they become another part of the song, instead of the focus. Anyone else noticed this, or am I just crazy? >.<

yes. understandable words in songs are not good for focusing. songs in spanish or without lyrics are much nicer. UNfortunately, I've ound that i read best with absolute silence, though i'd very much like to be listening to music. When I'm working on stuff though, music is good, especially (for some reason) the Levellers.

im not sure about music inspiring me to make art, but most of the titles i use for my artwork comes from song names and lyrics

Yeah. I have these numerous ideas I'll probably never get to draw, as they'd be straight out of some piece of a certain lyric or song title. Copyright infringements...

I'm a writer, and different music inspires me to write different things.
At the minute, I'm writing a novella in which the protagonist has been severely fucked over by his ex-girlfriend. Joey (the protagonist) is no emo kid however, and his pessimistic yet flippant attitude to his situation is best summed up by the music of Therapy? In particular songs such as:
Straight Life
Don't Expect Roses
Watch You Go
Femtex
I think if it wasn't for Therapy? Joey would be a much more depressing character and nowhere near as fun to read as (I hope) he is.

Metal helps me focus.
In fact, i can't concentrate AT ALL while i'm listening to metal/rock or anything more dominant than ambience, haha.
In my work ?
Yeah of course music affects your work, i'd say it does to all of us.

You're not crazy, I tend to agree. That's why I listen to a lot of dance/techno music with no lyrics at all, mainly to have some background noise but no lyrics to try to keep up with and concentrate on.
Although if you listen to music with lyrics relating to the work you're doing or has a meaning that relates to work you are doing then I also find that it helps a lot.

Dance music is very FTW, So is psytrance :)
I need music to concentrate, School really sucked when the teacher wouldn't let me listen to my MP3 player D:

Its because since you don't understand them your brain isn't in the background trying to analyze and understand the lyrics.

No, you're not crazy. Dir en Grey for example seems to be excellent music to listen to while I'm working.
Music I'm not familiar with I tend to analyze the song and focus on the lyrics and the meaning.
I can listen to Machinae at work and keep pounding away however, since I know the songs and I know what I get out of them so I can work while simply enjoying the music I'm receiving (if that makes sense).
I know one things for certain, I typically work much better when I'm listening to music. Of course I'm processing claims all day (at work now, in fact)
-
Oh well, as long as i can listen in class its all good.
;D

I'm a writer, and I have to say that music is one of the main sources of inspiration, sometimes it's the lyrics that gets me, but most times it's the music itself, be it powerfull, sad or just generally awsome.
I've written two short novells (that nobody has ever read), both based on the Halo story (lame, I know), and am currently writing a third, which is my own story.
In the beginning it was Linkin Park that inspired me, but i got over it pretty quickly, now MaSu is my prime source of inspiration.
