Title: Star Wars Vs Star Trek
Post by: chompy on October 19, 2003, 03:57:57 am
What do you think is better:
Star Wars
or
Star Trek

I think that Star Wars is better, because I haven't really watched, nor gotten into the Star Treck stuff. I think that Star Treck dosen't really have a story line.

I haven't had a good forum star wars VS star trek battle in a while. I have withdrawal symptomes

Star Wars to be honest.

I could go into a big assed rant about this but i gotta go to work soon

maybe if sum1 disagrees with my I'll hit them with it ^_^

Star Wars, I'd say.

But raging above them both: Farscape. Now that is nice SciFi...too bad they never made the final season, Season 5.

I'm with Torp. Farscape.

If I had to choose I'd choose star trek.

For a reason I can sum up thusly.

Lucas has lost it.  He turned one of the most meanacing badguys (Fett) from an egnima to a standard character. (Ruining Fett's big appeal, I might add.)

He also took one of the most fearsome troops in the galexy and turned them into a horrid cliche.

The Storm Troopers used to be voulenteers from all over the galaxy who WILLINGLY submitted to turning themselves into machine like drones.

Now they're clones.. *yawn*

Storm Troopers were always clones, later on after the Clone wars at the foundation of the Empire, Volunteers were accepted into armed service to fill out hte numbers the Empire would need to exert its control over the galaxy

...as far as I know ^_^

Well, I know that the "Extended universe" created for the books and the RPGs aren't considered "Cannon"  However, according to them, all of the Troopers were voulenteers.

I find that a lot more scary than clones, that someone would willingly join up to become a faceless minion.

PJ Hart: Science Fiction Geek first class reporting for duty.

the extended universe has many theories about stormtroopers.... in the rogue squadron books they are produced in factories ( a la clones) but in the Thrawn saga it is implied that cloning technology was lost and as clones died they needed to be replaced by volunteers/ conscripts.

also in A New Hope, when Obi Wan is sneaking around the death star two storm troopers have a conversation along the lines of

"So have you seen the new T-16s?"
"<something>"
"whats all this about anyway?"
"probly just another drill"

which gives the impression that although some stormtroopers may be volunteers/ conscripts they are not exactly "machine like drones" as you say.

How I can know shit like this and still enjoy an avid social life is beyond me

(this is the guy who wears a Battletech T-shirt out clubbing... :-\)

I have a bone to pick with star wars, even though I think it's better than star treck. Is with the latest episode (2); INSERT INTO yabbse_messages (ID_MSG, ID_TOPIC, ID_MEMBER, subject, posterName, posterEmail, posterTime, posterIP, smiliesEnabled, modifiedTime, modifiedName, body, icon, attachmentSize, attachmentFilename) VALUES it was a pretty poor effort much like matrix 2. It felt that episode two was just there to fill in space.

The story of matrix 2 was too much bunched up hitting it all at the end, with the guy from KFC, the kernel. Kernel??? Its spelt like cernel ....meh. Most second series are made pretty poorly, exluding a few. Terminator 2, X-men 2 wasn't made badly.

*coughs*  Aliens reserected?

I think that's the one in the criminal colony that's considered, basically, to be crap.

If we're talking about good sequels.

Aliens

There shall be 9 DVD-box set coming up in December featuring all the Aliens-movies. Lot's of extras, and price SHOULD be same as in 6 DVD box. I think that I'll take it from my next month's salary... Another DVD-box set I'm bound to buy will probably be Indiana Jones-box. 4 DVD's all IJ movies... Oh boy, there is so much to buy and so little money!

.... Oh boy, there is so much to buy and so little money!

That's okay Gravehill...you have until Christmas to get us all those wonderful things ;)

I know I'm a "bit" freaky, but I like all the Rambo-First Blood movies, and even those old Rocky movies (or maybe it was how Sylvester Stallone looked back then?) wooooooot! Anyway, I own both sets of those movies, 8 all together.

Woman that likes Rambo? Every man's DREAM!
"Come on honey, let's watch some Rambo and have some beer..."
LOL
It's not freaky. I like Rambo too. On the other hand, I'm not female. But on the third hand, hell with the labels!

< I must confess, some chick flicks (I'm not referring those with nude females OR chickens) are actually good and I REALLY enjoy watching some of them >

I liked first blood but the other rambo movies were dodgy...

....so are chick flicks.

Well... We each have our own taste. Some like it hot, some like it sugar. I like to experiment most things before I know if it's good or not...

Hehehehee, mmmmmmm nice: sexy guy, beer, and Rambo! Wooot!

Yeah, to hell with damn labels!

I like some chick flicks too, but mainly I like action movies and psychological thrillers. (and oh yeah, I have a soft spot for Disney movies) :D

Heh. I have never seen woman who could resist Disney films. They are good. Sometimes they sing little too much, imho. But I like them still. Romance, thrilling, good animation, it's all there - I prefer anime but that does not dim light of good, heartly work.

I have Toy Story. My favorites though, are ones from eons ago, which I bought when they were selling them for only one season, afaik.

Jungle Book
101 Dalmations
Bambi
Little Mermaid

I have Jungle Book 2 also, it's good.
I have Spirit also, but I don't think it's Disney.

I have quite a bit of anime, but I'm not crazy about it...with the exception of the Wolf's Rain series, love that one!

Didn't Dr. Spock write a controversial book about having or raising kids? ::)

Anyway, Leonard Nimoy (Spock) lives here where I live. It's strange to see him in the grocery store without his ears...and he's, ummm...I don't mean this negatively...but he's old.  :)

Oh my oh my oh my....this x-tra "O" became to be a intersesting subject. The only "O" I could think of worth mensioning is "The big O" when aroused big time doing IT...heh...oh well.... ::) ;)

yeah....it really sounds like a very bad movie when pronounceing "Dr.Spook" (haunts again) though, or something laughable from the Scooby Doo series ::) (Scooby and Shaggy are cool fellows don't take me wrong, it's the rest of the bunch :P)

I've never heard about a Nimoy book about kids....what are they anyway? ;)
