Used to play it. Quite cool I must admit, if you got lots of time to burn on your hands. Aircraft tuning could use some work though, seems like you're playing a diablo-clone, and not an arcade anime air sim. PvP is unbalanced atm, but as long as they release patches it should work out sooner or later. Graphix isn't all that bad for a f2p MMORPG game, visual effects and plane designs are the best. As is soundtrack ( love Blizzard theme  8) ). Would have started to play it again, but the problem is I don't have that much time, as it still is a grinding MMORPG ( although the most fun one you can get right now ). Ehh, I wish Blitz1941 was alive. That was TEH GAME. Oh well: BOTS look promising as well. ;)

NOTE: Both those games are more PvP oriented, you get XP from pvping ( In Blitz it's the main part of the game, in BOTS at least 50% of it ).

Looks pretty sweet. Might check it out. Been looking for a good space sim since Freespace 2..

Oh yeah, Starsailor Hovernmus ANI I-Gear

lots of people dump on I-gears because 90% of the population is them, and consequently 90% of the idiots are them.

Hey! I used to play as I-Gear! Have some respect. :D I started as an M-Gear though, even got it till 41. I-Gear was 35 or something, but then they wiped the serv, and I quit. I's could use more skills, that's for sure, but they're defenately the most fun gears to play with.

B's are so overpowered at the moment. Geez, it can do like 6k dmg in one single blow. Try and beat that one. Needs a lot of practice for a bomber mode though.

Okay, my name is Draxis in-game. Should be one of the standard army people or a rebel?

I'm level 8, I didn't play real long last night cause I fell asleep. I'll be 11 in no time though.

I... am... another...I-GEAR. :\

I will likely try a few gears out though, but the I-Gear seemed best suited to learn Air to Air combat which seems dominant.

Two Questions

Question #1:
How does the guild system work? What benefits does it provide? And are those funky pictures I see next to peoples names user-uploaded guild flags? What kinda pwn can we unleash as a guild? Can we combine to form voltron?

Question #2:
How does the voice system work exactly? Is it just a two-way connection between two players like a linked tell? Can groups have a voice channel? Can guilds have a voice channel? Is it a decent connection? Rararar.

That is all, thank you. I am at work and bored. :P
Title: Re: Space Cowboy Online
Post by: L'homme magique on June 20, 2006, 06:54:11 pm
1. the only benefits to being in a brigade are the sense of community, the use of brig chat, and the ability to have brig wars. Those funky pictures are indeed brig flags; DXM's is the "trinity logo" on the black background.

No Voltron, but there are formations.

Voice system can be between two people, or an entire formation. I don't know if brigades can have a voice channel. It's a decent connection.

It'd probably be easier just to use a TS server or sth because having to hold down Z every time you want to say something can get really annoying really fast.

then wait till tonight, and i'll invite you :P

formation is like a party.  everyone splits xp and stuff.  BUT, you can all form INTO formation, as well, where instad of flying solo, you form a flight pattern, and fly as one complete unit.  and you can change the shape of teh formation.

like voltron, but sexier.

and there IS brigade chat, IIRC.

Sorry Fallout/Magicman that I never got back on. Meant to, but after going to target I couldn't find what I needed so I ran to Wal-Mart and ended up buying Nightwatch (hadn't seen it yet).

By the time I got home I was kinda beat and decided to just watch the movie and pass out. =)

I've seen it in a cinema. Kick-ass movie, hehe. The third best thing from Russia, after wodka and a prodigy heavy-metal band called "Aria" (http://www.metal-observer.com/articles.php?lid=1&sid=1&id=839). Can't wait for the sequels "Lightwatch" and "Twilight Watch"

Yeah, Im rather curious how this whole thing will play out now.

Do you have any idea when the sequals are due? IMDB shows Day Watch (You may be right on Light Watch, but Day Watch is what IMDB has and thats what I thought I heard once it was changed from Night Watch 2: Blah blah blah) as due this year. Twilight Watch isn't even on there. May have a different title though...

I'm glad I bought it, though and I'm looking forward to the other two very much so =)

Ah hah, found it. It is called "Dusk Watch".

And apparnetly since its being co-financed by fox, if IMDB is correct it will be filmed in enlgish unlike the other two :)

How interesting... hehe

2007.

Edit: Saw other rumors saying Fox (not Fox Searchlight) is redoing the whole thing in English, kinda like Ring/Ringu. Who knows what the deal with the english rumors/statements are (other than the third film is supposed to take place in America partially, who knows why). I dont know, dont care either way, looking forward to it regardless.

For shame. It won't be the same if they make it in english and situate it in USA. The whole thing behind the movie was that a Hollywood level movie was actually shot outside Hollywood. If they shoot it there it will probably be just another bland Hollywood movie. But gonna watch it none the less. I wonder if the book is any better than the movie. They say it is, but I think it's rather controversial as you can't really compare the movie and a book. It's like comparing manga to anime, both can be good, and both can be bad - varies from situation to situation. I've seen movie on the Strugatsky's book called "picnic on the roadside", the movie was called "Stalker" (there is an upcoming pc game that's called that as well), and the movie sucked big time towards the book, like comparing earth to heavens. Plus I never liked LOTR movies, not a single one of 'em, as I read the book. But now I realise that the book actually sux as well, so what are you gonna do? Even Hobbit was more original and interesting than LOTR. You can say LOTR is Hobbit's "spin-off". Anyhow, gonna try and get my hands on that book and see what happens. I don't think it's gonna affect my view on the movie in any way however, cause movie is already as good as it can be.

Title: Re: Space Cowboy Online
Post by: not12x on June 23, 2006, 12:24:57 am
methinks its an original idea, takings bits from other classic games.  I'd hardly relate it to an anime, even though there are anime-ish bits (becuase if it WAS related to an anime, i'd have to stop playing, and i dont want to)

there are bits of all the classic space games in there, and a bit of originality.
Title: Re: Space Cowboy Online
Post by: PrescriptiveBarony on June 23, 2006, 07:01:26 am
yeah... it's fairly original, and what plot there is really isn't all that exciting. PLus it's badly translated, and all the missions boil down to "kill 10 of this and 5 of that." Hopefully they'll come up with different things to do someday, cause i'm getting bored with the leveling leveling leveling, one story mission, levelling levelling levelling.

Trust me, it gets better when you do PVP. You just gotta yawn your way through the first 30 levels or so, then it gets really crazy frantic PVP action. :D

You really do hate anime eh? ::)

Dunno, I find SCO rather boring, at least for now. And PvP it too freakin' unbalanced to be even remotely fair. If you're an M-Gear you get owned by anyone anywhere. Little easier with I-Gears, but still B-Gears and A-Gears will own you anyways. A's got auto-targeting system, which is a god-like skill. The only way to do something about an A-Gear is to get to the top altitude and fall down on his head hittin' him with everything you got. I'm not even talking about B-Gears, as those can rip you apart in on single shot. That's what's called "BALANCE"... ???

Yah. I'm at level 20 now and it's starting to become yawntastic. NOT HORRIBLE, not boring, just the excitement from the game is starting to fade. I still enjoy it though. That and I know in about 10 more levels I'm going to be PvPing.

Did a few duels (With someone way higher than me at first, unfortunately). Lost those. Tried people my level and ownered! Wewt :)

I dueled a 4x and won but I got no fame...

He was using a lower end frame, to be fair (more around my level) but I did the same thing... Got behind him and stayed behind him since he was an A-Gear I believe it was, whatever the universal air/ground plane is. Anywho, he couldn't shake me and I killed him.

No fame though =\ Wonder why. Come to think of it, I've gotten no fame for any of my dueling victories.

Fallout is no doubt bruised, damaged, and broken from all the smiting he receives here. I'm suprised the man can walk, let alone pilot a gear.

Draxis, Magicman, whoever else was in the brigade, there has been a change of hands in the brigade, Erin hardly plays anymore, so I had to disband the brigade and remake it with me as the leader. Give me a time when you'll be online and i'll invite you again. :)

You have to have lot of patience for this MMORPG and I got the patience. I don't even think about leaving SCO, because all that grinding would go to waste :-\

I needed a break from it myself. It didn't seem like it was going anywhere for the amount of grinding I was doing. But honestly, I'd have to find a really insanely fun MMO to get into one at the moment anyway. Until I move I need to keep my addictions to a minimum (August 1st, soon!)

Once I move its all pancakes... Assuming I can find something I actually want to play, which right now isn't a whole lot. Halo 3 is really the only game I'm looking forward to at the moment.

Bocom signing up.

Bocom0Gravity, Level 4... A few levels until I actually can join, but oh well... I-Gear, I think.

I never noticed that I leveled up until I logged out.

Th problem with SCO is indeed the grinding... there are badly translated and completely invariable "storyline" missions for every level, and they might give you 30% of the necessary exp, so the rest is taking the "standard" missions (namely, "kill X number of X unit") until you level up or run out of standard missions. the higher the level the longer the grind.... i get less enthused with each one. there's nothing to look forward to.

I started playing today. Name is Okotaka (for some reason).
Not sure if this is going to hold my interest for long. Looks all right, and the grinding is fun compared to most MMOs, but it's still grinding...

There's the sidestory for high leveled players. The first sidestory mission is to go trough your enemy's nations lands and kill some mobs there. It was pritty easy for me, because I have good defence and good engine with 400'ms boost ;D. You don't have to continously grind! You can grind for sometime and then you can go kill opponent nation's players, but you should not go to kill them if you are below lvl 30. ::)

Now I'm stuck in a crazy mission where you have to kill 2 (Yes two) Hornian queens! :o They have lot of hp and they do an attack what you can't dodge, sometimes they release like 12 mobs at sametime. I can't kill them until I get higher level :-\
I'm lvl 53 now.

There's the sidestory for high leveled players.

1: it takes time to become high leveled

2: the sidestory missions, at least for me, are only available every other level

3: they don't give you any experience other than what you get for killing whatever you need to kill

and yeah you can go hunt enemy team members, if you swing that way, but that doesn't give any exp either, and you have to be quite high leveled to have any chance at winning against the majority of the folk you'll run into (in the higher-level enemy territories where you have to travel first).

1: Well not for me

2:Yup that's true but you can unlock moon with the first sidestory mission and moon is good grinding place

3:True...

Yeah killing enemy team players don't give exp, but at least they give fame and it's more fun than grinding all the time. You can stay in bark or Den of site A-B and camp the warps where you think the enemy is coming.
