Title: A Forum-wide Challenge
Post by: dialupdaemon on June 06, 2006, 09:03:30 pm
As some of you know I've been far too busy playing StarCraft to look at the forums lately. I'm in school and am somewhat bored so I'd like to issue a challenge to anyone here who believes their SC skills are worth showing off. Here it is: I am willing to bet that I can take any single person on this forum in a best of 3 series of StarCraft Brood War. BGH is acceptable but real maps are preferred. I refuse to play fastest/zero clutter so don't ask.

I've played Radicz0r a few games and won every time, one match only losing a single unit: my scouting probe. So if you can't take him don't show up  :P

Let me know here or email me at dialupdaemon@gmail.com if you're up for it and perhaps we can post replays or something assuming anyone will actually take the time to play.

I would, but I suck extremely at StarCraft... even lost against my brother recently :-/
But what about some other games? We could create a whole Machinae Supremacy e-sports league ;D

But, you use dialup, how the hell can you win a game of Starcraft?

Take up my challenge and I'll show you Fiindil  :P

Seriously though, its one of the only games I can play online without lagging.

I'm currently at the stage in Starcraft where I think worker rushes are a good idea :P

I've not played StarCraft in years now. I'm stuck heavily on CIV4 :D

I never really played starcraft... I have had a few goes and won a few times. But I am willing to challenge anyone to a game or two of red alert, heck you could even play it on 56k I know because I used to do just that. Not on the internet but I had to initate a modem call and my opponent would have to accept the call... fun times.

Except when my friend didnt know howto play red alert.. I wiped the map with his arse

Red Alert is easy to play.

If Soviets, then tank rush
If Allies, fight off tank rush and counter

Oh its not all that... just wait till you play with nukes, iron curtains and the transporter thingy.

There's no doubt i'll play horribly now... but it would be fun

I *really* hate Super Weapons.

I'll explain my tactic I worked out on myself and then everyone started to copy me and then it got a stack harder.

When the enemy had a shroud curtain and you had your nukes and warpy thingy. Wait for warpy thing and nuke to prime, select a non used vechile or person (APC) and warp it into the middle of their base where the black stuff is. Move the APC around and nuke a suitable area...Send in units. Or rinse wash and repeat.

Yuck, RA2.

The orginal is much better, as is TD. I'd play someone at those if it didn't crash to desktop randomly on XP. FYI you can emulate serial over TCP with a application called TCPcom allowing you to play multiplayer without a modem.

So there are no takers?
I'd really like to play someone, even if its Fiindil trying to do a worker rush. What if I promise not to beat you with any fast cheese attacks? I play exclusively protoss so you don't have to worry about bunker rushes and I'm above trying any kind of fast forge photon cannon builds.

Mmm, though if you're tank rushing it shouldn't get that far. Selling your HQ FTW!! D:

Hmm, play me at DoW or WC3 and I'll have you.

I SHALL CRUSH YOU, FOOL!

What's my record vs you now SpeedD, like 20-0? Didn't you stop playing me because you couldn't even give me a challenge anymore? Should I upload replays of our games so everyone here can laugh at you?

 ;D

I fealt like I entered a time warp. Someone bragging about their mad StarCraft skills. I havent heard that in like 20 or 30 years :P

Dudes, I challenge you all to Pong!

I'd consider playing StarCraft again, but I think my CD's have likely decomposed by now. I'm not sure where they are. :P

OK, and then Tetris?

How about a 2vs2 Starcraft match?
Title: Re: A Forum-wide Challenge

2vs2 is fine. Should everyone involved be a forum member or can I get some of my uber clan members in on this?

Eh, now I really may have to reinstall StarCraft. It sounds fun =\

(Slightly off topic question, but reletive to the people in this post: Any of you RTSers plan on playing the new Warhammer: Mark of Chaos RTS? I thought some of you StarCraft players might migrate to that to some degree and I am highly debating getting it when it comes out. Looks fantastic. http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?fs=1&id=2210 if you haven't seen any trailers)

I doubt that hardcore StarCraft players (such as myself) will be migrating to any RTS to be released in the near future. Nothing will ever come close to matching SC as far as race balance and the skill, strategy, and speed required to play at high levels.

Haha Rad...
If recall correctly we DID play a game on Fastest and it was probably my 5th time ever and I was using my worst race and I completely pwned you.

I already play DoW:WA at a pretty high level, though it's balance state and bugs, espically made worse by two new races won't attract any hardcore players.

I've beaten plenty of Koreans and you'd be no different. Just because so many of them play it doesn't make all of them good.

Go out and buy one. I got a battle-chest a few months back for like 30 bucks Canadian so its definitely not the most expensive game in the world.
Title: Re: A Forum-wide Challenge
Post by: Smeagol on June 11, 2006, 11:19:07 pm
In real people money, $30CAD = £14.70

Which is still somewhat high for a game released 8/9 years ago.
Title: Re: A Forum-wide Challenge
Post by: dialupdaemon on June 12, 2006, 08:21:29 pm
Not when you consider that the battlechest comes with the original starcraft, brood war expansion, 2 strategy guides and a tech tree poster for all the races. That and the fact that StarCraft is the greatest game of all time so 30 dollars is an amazing bargain.
