Whenever I try to play fast, like try to play a solo or something, I always, without fail, tense up. My whole body gets tense, and then I can't play anything at that point, and I just have to stop, take a deep breath, relax, and try again, and the same thing happens anyways.
Has anybody else had this happen to them? Does anybody know how I can overcome this tension? Because it's a very big and annoying obstacle for me and progressing in my playing. Thanks in advance! :)

nah it'll pass

Yes, I agree.
I believe it's just a matter of time and this tension will drop. The same "phenomenon" appeared the first 5 years that I played fast songs or melodies on the keyboard. Today this tension is still there a little bit, but doesn't affect my playing anymore.

Get drunk.
Try again.

Playing a solo in front of crowds? I have no clue.
Playing at all? Get over it... geez... do it when you're tired.

yes, drunk is good!

But I'm too young to drink. :P

just play the thing slowly til y're able to play it in your sleep, then there will be no tension att all

Yeah. I've also found that closing my eyes and playing it like that for a little bit helps with the tension. And the funny thing was, when I opened my eyes, it was a bit easier to play :P.

Do you master the strums ?
At least, i mean are you capable of fluid up and down picking, tremolo picking, gallopage :) (like a horsey, dakaduk dakaduk, i can do those REALLY fast :P )
But i mostly play metal. So then you have to be fast like greased shit running for the cops.
