Title: Redeemer FAQ
Post by: robert on February 06, 2006, 06:32:32 pm
Q:
Oh, mighty Lord Gaz, plz explain teh edition-confusion to me, pleez0r, mkthx?

A:
Right. Here's the scoop.

There will be two editions of Redeemer. One isn't really called anything, and by default has been dubbed "retail" edition, and the other one is the "underground" edition.

Why 2? I'll explain.

You all know you've waited very long for this, and the reason for that was that we wanted to optimize the conditions of its release, make sure we employed the correct channels etc, and stayed free and true while doing it.

Eventually, we were approached by a record label (JMT-Music) who offered us initially a master deal for Redeemer (but when I sent Redeemer to Tomi at JMT, he changed the deal to a "normal" multialbum deal (3 albums, 4 years)). We turned it down, but another deal has been made, to make use if JMT's distribution channels while retaining our freedom to use our name as we please.

The drawback here was that the JMT release of Redeemer will lag a few more months due to preparations and whatnot. That's why Tomi at JMT suggested to us that we release our own version now, to get it out there to the fans instantly, while he in turn could modify the tracklist to optimize his version of Redeemer to a more "mainstream" audience (making the album shorter, removing some of the the more "difficult" songs, etc).

We thought this was a great idea, since that means we get to give you guys, the hardcore fans, the "director's cut" of Redeemer, as it was initially intended, while the mainstream crowd, the store people and those not yet familiar with machinae supremacy, get the retail version.

Ahhhh, I see. So the retail tracklist will be:

01 . ELITE
02 . RISE
03 . RONIN
04 . HATE
05 . I KNOW THE REAPER
06 . SEVENTEEN
07 . ROGUE WORLD ASYLUM
08 . THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS
09 . OKI KUMAS ADVENTURE
10 . REANIMATOR
11 . GHOST (beneath the surface)

While the Underground will have all track except Ghost. Right?

Q:

Greatest question phrasing ever! Loves it :-*

This all sounds really cool; good for the fans and good for the 'general public'. Although us hardcore-ites will end up getting both editions anyway. Really looking forward to it ^_^

That's basically what he and the site said, yes.

It's really nice to know that Redeemer will reach out beyond what MDX managed to do. Getting the album into stores will probably make people look at you as a more "serious" band, which is good. Also, a more commercial version isn't a bad idea, though we really love you for letting us have the full-blown underground edition as well. Thank you for that!

And Spider Chii - of course we will. Given that the retail version becomes available online, JMT music sells their records outside of Sweden, or some of our swedish friends finds it a good idea to play distributor for us...or, of course, I take a trip to Sweden and happen to find it there.

06 . HATE
07 . GHOST (beneath the surface)
08 . RONIN
09 . SEVENTEEN

Alternatively you could always play Tales of Phantasia or Xenogears!

In other news: WHOAAAAAAAAAA. I leave for two hours, come back, and it's all changed. Through The Looking Glass is awesome, Rise almost as much so, and the new site rules.

How large will the Underground Edition's run be?

why the f***, to put it boldly, is ghost not in the underground version? :/. not that i couldn't recite it backwards in chinese language but it still belongs there imho ;[

other than that your marketing stunt seems ok, mainstream sucks, but when machinae can make a living off their music they might even get -better-(despite bein best already^^) or something like that xD
Title: Re: Redeemer FAQ
Post by: Smeagol on February 06, 2006, 08:23:50 pm
I don't get what everyone has against mainstream.

OMG BAND X ARE WELL KNOWN I DONNOT LIEK TEH, NOW.

Sure, most mainstream stuff is crap, because the musicians are talentless, not because it is mainstream. Bands don't become crappy overnight once they sell numerous albums.
Title: Re: Redeemer FAQ
Post by: Schattenjaeger on February 06, 2006, 08:29:15 pm
Umm, actually, a lot of good bands that go mainstream become shitty because they have to conform to the mainstream. Which is not very accepting of radically new shit of the type MaSu is.
Title: Re: Redeemer FAQ
Post by: Frigger on February 06, 2006, 08:35:44 pm
@findil true, but not few adapt to it ;]

i would never even think of bein afraid for MaSu, that somethin like that would happen to them, but there was an discussion about for example green day ,here in this board, who became more "pop" n stuff to become more successful in the mainstream. Since i dont know the old music of them or any of the other circumstances i dont want to push the "uuuuuuh, 3v1l m41nstr34m, it will eat you" button on that example^^, but fact is, who adapts to the "soft crap" can sometime make more money, even if that means putting down old ideals.

personally i think its fine to try to appeal to a larger audience, but not if that means losing your individuality for the sake of better "marketability", and thats the point where a lot of good music died.

btw. welcome to capitalism ;D. want revolution? buy it ,asshole!!!!11111
Title: Re: Redeemer FAQ
Post by: Smeagol on February 06, 2006, 08:37:01 pm
Compared to what is accepted as mainstream by those who listen to it, yes.

Compared to what fans of Band Y believe it to be, no. A prime example would be In Flames. Mainstream? Well, no. But reaching out to a larger audience certainly. Claims amongst most fans that STYE was awful, and an attempt are fairly wide of the mark (IMO. Music taste is entirely subjective). To reach the real mainstream, a band has to either become pop (read, Green Day) or be a rap artist. Last I checked, Machinae are neither, and do not seem to be heading in that direction. I think Steyn and the others have too much dignity to let Machinae go in that direction.

So Robert could you hook us up with a .psd (if there is one) for the top image of the new website. As you may know I'm in the mod team Goldeneye: Source, and the black and white image would be perfect for an alpha channel for a spraypaint. I could then tag you guys on my walls in my levels ;) . Or I could just cut it out myself, I was just wondering. Great stuff I can't wait to get my hands on it. Also do you have some lyrics available?

edit: like so (http://www.fourtecks.com/temp/machinaetag.jpg)

"Machinae Supremacy - Redeemer :-: Cracked by Robert"

"Machinae Supremacy - Redeemer :-: Cracked by Tomas"

and so on, and so on?

As for whoever asked why Ghost isn't on the underground version? Well, it's not actually a Redeemer track, is it? It might have been, but in that case it was dropped for other tracks which fitted Redeemer better. When they dropped a couple of the more special tracks, they suddenly had space for it again.

Theres probably going to be little to no SID on the retail version, as to not scare potential 'vanilla' rock fans. I'm guessing there may be at least 1 SID song, or something along those lines.

Hehe, you're quite wrong. :)

Only three songs on Redeemer have no SID (because they have other synth-stuff). That's "Through the looking glass", "I know the reaper" and "Kaori Stomp".

"Kaori Stomp", "Fury" and "Empire" are the tracks that have been omitted from the retail edition, and "Ghost" has been added.

That leaves 9 out of 11 songs on Redeemer (R.E.) "SID"-songs.... Then, what importance the QUANTITY of SID in our music has, I really do not understand.

Title: Re: Redeemer FAQ
Post by: robert on February 07, 2006, 09:29:58 pm
If you consider the time it would take for five people - WHEN you could get them all together in one place - to open up the plastic around thousands of CDs (and hence making them more vulnerable for the shipping) and signing them all five (this not taking into account that Kahl doesn't even live here anymore - and he's on Redeemer, so...).

We're talking hundreds of hours of nothing but signing CDs. I say for a signature to be worth something, it should be acquired when meeting the person who signs it, not just by placing an order on the internet.

Title: Re: Redeemer FAQ
Post by: GeeDougg on February 07, 2006, 09:45:53 pm
Yeah, realistically, as much as I'd want a signed copy, and even knowing that I might never meet you guys in person (since you don't ever play here and you're all the way over there in Sweden and I might not make ti to Sweden for a while), I still agree that signing all the underground copies is too much to ask.
Title: Re: Redeemer FAQ
Post by: ПФББЧ on February 07, 2006, 09:58:32 pm
Then it is settled. The CDs shall not be signed before shipping, but in return MaSu MUST play in the UK. :P A UK tour (to include Northern Ireland KTHXBAI) would win the universe.

NI might be close to it distance-wise, but it's not just the distance that counts, it's the amount they have to spend to book another show there for a relatively (much) smaller audience.

I think Hemel has the largest number of fans-to-population ratio. I know of at least 3 (Myself, a friend and BeatifulNightmare according to the Frappr map) and out of a population of ~60,000, that ends up as 1 in 20,000 people is a Machinae fan.
