Title: Indy RPGs
Post by: Blunt Eversmoke on September 05, 2005, 11:30:05 pm
Which shareware/freeware RPG are you most fond of?

Mine is the Exile series by Spiderweb Software, re-made as Avernum later.

Crossfire? Is that fantasy or  modern/sci-fi/post-apocalyptic?

I'll wait for a patch before I try 'Real Life' again.

E-mail tech support about it. Bitch and moan enough and they have to fix it eventually. Or..you know, like ban you or sth.

One thing that bugs me in real life is that the interaction with NPCs is quite cumbersome.

yeah, punch them in the face and they get angry, its SO weird, they should be immortal, right ?

Not necessarily. Morrowind also allows you to kill even important NPCs.

By the death of this character the prophecy is fucked up, start a new game, or live in the doomed world you created.

Or something.

Most of the important characters are overpowered anyway, havin full daedric armor or similar equipment.

CLUAConsole >> Any plot line whatsoever. Bow down before it's might (and summon in some hostile demi-liches...fun!)

Last time I played I had tons of mods installed. Most authors tried to fit into the balance of the game. There was one house mod however which had a couple of high powered items. Even more fun.

...now that I think about it, would be a good start for a new character...

Yes NetHack is a very good game to play, can even play it through telnet <.< just keep on kicking the wall....

Lol the funniest one I have played would be Dink Smallwood.. http://www.rtsoft.com/dink/

I cannot remember much about it but I do remember this. There was a level you were on a ship, then everyone starts becoming violently sick and to vomit. Your job was to clean up the vomit!

Dink Smallwood is brilliant. Awesome main quest with cool secrets and such, plus lots of excellent mods. Graphics are a bit meh these days, but if that's what you're looking for in an RPG...

This is an indy Adventure Game (and one that may have been mentioned here before)

but it deserves another post:

What about Puppetland (http://www.johntynes.com/rl_puppetland_www.html)? It sounds fairly interesting. Now, it's very different from the other RPGs you've mentioned, as it's pen and paper...

That crab game is pretty decent, much more fun to play then I first thought. Although I'm finding it really difficult to play.  Two thumbs up for that one.

I'm not tsure if he's trying to stomp the rat or he's afraid of it.

100% agreement. Even whilst save scumming, I've only ever once gotten past the hordes of undead (including liches, vampires and the like) level of the CoC.

Not an RPG, but anyway:

Weird Worlds - Return to Infinite Space

I've been pretty addicted to the game as has everyone else I've introduced it to. You can grab the demo from http://www.shrapnelgames.com/digital_eel/weird_worlds/6.htm
You start with a ship on a starmap and have to go explore the galaxy. Combat goes into a real time battle system where you control your ship(s)/fleet and pwn the other guys, or die or run away with your nacelles between your legs.
