Title: A strange request
Post by: Spiff on July 26, 2005, 11:40:27 pm
Yes, this is weird, but nothing that anyone has to do if they don't feel like it / don't have the time for helping. In fact it may be alot of work for something so small. I'll make sure to credit you if you want though.

My friend likes to write song texts. Mostly they're depressing, but I thought it'd be neat if anyone could come up with some notes, play, sing, and record this song she wrote:

Quote
Run away...

Run away from my fears
Run away from my tears
Run away from my harms
Run away from my charms
Run away from my past
Run away, and make it last
Run away when something goes wrong
Run away when you feel
like you don't belong

When you feel like you're stumbling, and can't stand
reach out and grab ahold of my hand
When you feel like quitting the game
close your eyes, and whisper my name
When you're alone in the darkness, paralyzed with fright
I'll be there to hold you close every night
If loving you means I'm comitting a crime
Then I'll forever keep comitting it, until the end of time

I'll spare you the teary-eyed stuff about her illness because I don't want you to feel bad about her (she has a strong will), I'd just like try turning one of her texts into a song. I suppose it's a weird way to cheer her up about life, but if anyone's feeling friendly, go for it. :)

If I had some recording program I definitely would (although I don't know how well a saw rendition would be recieved :P), but I don't =/

Sorry, man.

I'll give it a shot if I can figure something out.  It'll have to wait until tomorrow or Thursday before I start, though.

To be honest I haven't worked on this much at all.  I figured some basic chords but I dunno how much I like it...  I'm thinking of making it sound all sad and pretty, but I'm not totallly sure yet.

hmmm, its 12:15 on a sunday and I'm hung over. My parents are meant to be coming to my house to whisk me away but they haven't turned up yet and if they don't I might have a crack at this today.

Kay, I've got down a basic progression for the song...  I'm not sure how I'm going to structure it though, I want the Run Away part to be slower, then get all loud and angry at the 2nd part...  I'll probably borrow the singer from my band to do vocals, you can all tell me if he sucks.

Actually I'm pretty much done the song now.  I'll record it maybe tomorrow if I can get the chance, I'd do it now but:
1.  The singer hasn't heard the actual song
2.  I need to practice the outro
3.  I don't plan to follow any pattern, just when he gets to a new section with the vocals I'll switch too

CakeWalk is the best, failing that, ProTracks, which corresponds with it, r0ck hard.

Alrighty, done.  Here everybody goes:

http://www.atgig.com/TheExclaimers/Songs/Exclaimers_Run_Away.mp3

Myself: Guitar/Other Guitar/High Strings
Kevin: Singing/Low Strings

Strings from keyboard, yay.  Hope you all like it and all that other crap.

Which leads to a string of really dodgy ads?

A bit dramatic song, Xeero

But a nice way to make it.

My version is uber punkstyle so there is contrast :D

Hehe, the fun part is the 4 minutes of soloing I got to do.  There aren't really all that many lyrics and the lyrics go by quite fast.

I'm satisfied with it, though, albiet my solos are kinda so-so I think.

Nice and calm, not dramatic, you punks are all the same :P

Good work Xeero, what keyboard did you use for the strings? Random Curiousity as to what youre using =)

I'm not sure right now, I'm a little out of it but remind me tomorrow and I'll go see.

Xeero, that's great! The way you put the lyrics into the song is excellent, although you shouted a little loud sometimes in the mic in the second part. ;) Maybe I should wait for Radic's version too before I let my friend hear them. :) Providing that you'll soon be done with yours, Radic?

If you liked doing this, I have more of her song texts, some very long, but some short.

I wasn't the one doing vocals, my voice is way deeper than that guy's.  I can't hit many of the notes he does without going into my falsetto.

So all in all, I think my soloing sucked, but was decent enough.  We'll see.
