Title: Cominatcha Woo-style
Post by: L'homme magique on June 28, 2005, 12:15:23 am
Anybody here play GunZ?

It's a third person shooter in which you can do John Woo-esque moves... running up walls, tumbling to the side while shooting, et cetera. But, hackers are fairly rampant (not a problem if, like me, you only play with people you know), and thanks to them the servers crash somewhat often... but it is a beta.

And, it'll be free to play forever, even when it comes out of beta. Maiet Entertainment has said they are going to do a Gunbound style system, where you can play for free if you want, but you can also buy exclusive equipment.

The only gripes I have about this game are the limited character creation (male or female, and there's four hairstyles and four facestyles for each), and the lack of stuff compared the the Korean version. But, the Korean version has been around for a couple of years while the International has just started, so it's expected.

Anyway, I play as mrdean and Rising_Zan, incase anybody catches me in a game :P

And the site seems to be down right now... wtf. Hopefully it'll be back up soon ._.

www.google.com

Seriously though, it's www.gunzonline.com

But, the site and servers are down :(

Believe me when I say it's fun, though.

Site's back up.

I played my first game and I gotta say... wow.  I was very impressed.. I don't know if it was just the joy of blazing away or the fact that I got two guys playing with me who were honorable and just as new at it as me.. :D

Oh yeah, that's always the best. :)

It really sucks when you're having a great match and then some hacker comes in ruining things...

Great game. The Matrixy style moves are a nice touch, not so sure about the Devil May Cryish combo counter though. And the swordplay does seem a bit forced, but apart from that, it rawks. It's a nice FPS to play once Battlefield 2 begins to seem flat.

btw, I've largely abandoned mrdean and Rising_Zan in favour of SexyCommando.

I would have taken the name at first and stuck with it, but my head hurt when I registered.

Edit:

EDIT2:
wtf, every server is full?
this is bull.  how come tehre are only 4 servers, and why are they full at 2:40AM?!

EDIT3:
got it to work.
and after an hour and a half of play, i have reached level 4, re-armed myself, mastered (haha, not really, but gotten good at) melee, and won a total of 6 matches.
this game has surpassed guild wars as the greatest game in my current gaming lineup.

Must not play, play guildwars instead. need to get to level 20 and finsih the game (note level 19 and a half currently)

I might give it a go. I hope its better then some unammed MMoRPG that I played ealier that was recommended by /. but it sucked. Graphics bad, PKing bad.

Exactly. Which is 1000 I'd rather spend on items. Although If I'm the first to reach lvl 10, guess I'll form it.

Post by: Torp v2.0 on July 02, 2005, 04:47:51 pm
Yeah, it's your duty.

Downloading the client myself, now. I'll be playing as TokathMarg. That's one of my standard online names (if you ever see anybody named TokathMarg (or the shortened Tokath), in any game, it's almost certainly me (well, there are others using the shortened version). Even a google for TokathMarg only gives you a 40k character (actually, it's the weapon of Ahra, Father of Scorpions) and some forum posts by me over at Eldaronline.com. That it's used in 40k isn't surprising, as I made the name from the 40k Eldar Language Guide, as the name of my DE Kabal leader, in those days when I was starting a DE force)

EDIT: Does it really take half an eternity to log in, or is it just me?

EDIT2: Hmmm...maybe it's that I didn't update..

EDIT3: Nope, it's the Firewall/NAT problem. I think. Can't play it.

Post by: MDX on July 02, 2005, 06:42:19 pm
The servers are down.

You go to login.. the login interface disappears and you think it loads for ages.

Its happened to me aswell.. i was going to go on and level up like crazy.. alas. nay.

Its happened to me aswell.. i was going to go on and level up like crazy.. alas. nay.

So was I. My plans for the GunZ weekend just died. A real shame. I went up 3 levels yesterday and was beginning to get a damn good character.

And apparently the beta's open till November. Plenty of time for the clan to appear.
Title: Re: Cominatcha Woo-style
Post by: Torp v2.0 on July 03, 2005, 01:44:44 am
Right. I'm able to connect now, but I do get the infamous 999 ping error. Which isn't surprising, with the weird router/firewall setup we've got here. I'm probably not able to fix it in some time, as I don't have access to anything here (I'm at home, and it's my fathers/my fathers employers stuff, and my father is in Spain at the moment).

There's a reducing lag tutorial in GunZ around somewhere, google around for it, may help.

Post by: Torp v2.0 on July 03, 2005, 02:18:23 am
Won't help. It's the Firewall/NAT problem mentioned on their website. I've gotten an email adress from my father to someone who might be able to help me, though. Hopefully, he will be, as the game looks mighty cool.

Well, supposedly, it'll be free even after that (see the orignal post by Magicman). Though I would think that characters will be reset.

Character resetting isn't a problem if they get rid of the hackers. By the time the Beta ends most people playing the game properly will be pretty damn good, and will be able to level quite quickly, whilst the haxx0rz will be screwed shitless because they don't have god mode to save them.

I had some sort of glitch with lvl 7, reached it and instantly had 94% to lvl 8,it kicked me off of the server due to inactivity, logged back on, lvl 7 1%. The game does seem to be getting less fun now though, hackers are more rampant the higher level you go.

I guess my router is stopping me from playing.  Lots of different errors have happened, including the game just freezing.  Maybe later it'll work.

Back to Ninja Gaiden.
Title: Re: Cominatcha Woo-style
Post by: Torp v2.0 on July 04, 2005, 11:21:38 am
Well, the only router problem I'm aware of is the aforementioned ping 999, which I get myself. There's a lengthy thread on their forums about how to solve it (basically, port forwarding), though it's not sure that it will help. You could try it out, though, i you have access to your router.

Ninja Gaiden. I got to get myself a copy of Ninja Gaiden. I had one, once, but it got damaged. Always stopped working after I had killed the three demon-dinosaurs and the conelike boss with tentacle arms (the one who ate the demon huntress chick). Really irritating.
Title: Re: Cominatcha Woo-style
Post by: Turtle on July 04, 2005, 12:08:16 pm
Wee.  Gunz started working finally, no port forwarding required.  Nearly level 6 and I love it.

My character's name is TurtlePrime.  Find me sometime.

Ninja Gaiden got irritating pretty quick.  I'll try it again tomorrow.
Title: Re: Cominatcha Woo-style
Post by: Torp v2.0 on July 04, 2005, 12:27:10 pm
You've just started playing it? (NG, that is)

I never found it irritating (apart from the crashes). Sure, the game is rather difficult, and there were times when I almost gave up (the second boss, for example. He is actually one of the hardest bosses in the game), but the sheer coolness of the game kept me going.
Title: Re: Cominatcha Woo-style
Post by: MDX on July 04, 2005, 06:21:37 pm
Almost lvl 9 :D

Which then in turn beckons the call for lvl 10.

HAILL!!!

Fear my new black guns of doom. and my rusty sword. I will own all with this sword btw, fear me.
Title: Re: Cominatcha Woo-style
Post by: Smeagol on July 04, 2005, 06:43:10 pm
Black guns? Explain?

I've pretty much stopped playing...the 999 ping error doesn't exist... the 1532 ping error does though. The game is unplayable (AKA, everyone starts bitching that I'm killing them...gets dull)
Title: Re: Cominatcha Woo-style
Post by: Torp v2.0 on July 04, 2005, 06:56:40 pm
Yeah, I can imagine that would make the game unplayable. I need a ping at least below 200 (preferrably below 100) to play an online action game (it's not that big a problem with RPGs and strategy, of course).

In more "realistic" games (that is, games where you can't take a magazine full of machine gun rounds), 200ms can be the difference between putting that sniper bullet in the enemy and the enemy putting a bullet in you.

I'm getting the "999 ping" glitch quite a bit now.  The problem happens whenever me and my friend, who is on the same router as me, try joining a game.  The same thing happens to some other friends when they try to connect to servers together.  Anyone found any fixes?  We've tried forwarding ports 6000 and 7000 and setting the game to use those, but it doesn't seem to help.

level 12... beat ya'll.
my friend is also level 12, got here in jsut 2 days.  weve been playing this nonstop.  weve got enough bounty as well to start a clan, so lets talk about a meeting time.  he wants in, said hed start posting on teh forums as soon as he de-popups adn de-spywares his internet browsers (he loves MaSu almost as much as i do)

Title: Re: Cominatcha Woo-style
Post by: Torp v2.0 on July 05, 2005, 11:42:36 am
Argh! Why can't you americans learn to just use UTC or GMT?

EST = UTC - 5

Use the standards. Go with the program. (And, on a sidenote, nobody dare use inches for anything but wargaming, ok?)

He wants you people to meet him at 4 AM UTC (that would be 5AM GMT/BST, due to daylight saving time, unless the EST go daylight saving time as well, in which case it would be 4AM GMT and 3AM UTC). This, to me, sounds a bit early. Not that I'm able to play, so I don't really get a vote. I'd suggest around 11PM UTC. That way, it won't be too early for americans (6 PM, or 7PM if you've got daylught saving time), and midnight for the british.

EDIT: Oh, and for the record, I live in UTC+1 (+2 due to daylight saving time), so I'm not advocating using my own time zone.

EDIT2: Whoops. EST is UTC-5, not UTC-6. Fixed...the numbers should be right now.  But this proves how easy it is to be wrong. It's much harder to be wrong on which time zone you belong to relative to UTC (which do not have daylight saving time, so if your time zone has it, remember to adjust the time you give accordingly, e.g., if you're in a UTC-x time zone, you'll be at UTC-(x-1) with daylight saving, and if you're in a UTC+x, you'll be UTC+(x+1))

Back to what I was actually going to post about before I decided to standardise time...

The servers, as I've understood it, currently do not support having two players from behind the same router playing in the same game. This is possibly a feature, to ensure that people do not cheat by joining a second character and preying on him/her for experience.

I am not completely sure about this, though, and have to ask: Are you trying to run both clients through the same ports? (that is, are both clients using ports 6000 and 7000?). If so, you're stupid and should be shot (no, not really, but using the same ports won't work, and I thought the game used both those ports by default?). Try using different ports on each client. It might work.

any time is good, exept from 9PM-2AM tomorrow.  otherwise, someone suggest!

p.s. any chance of us corruptin-erm, suggesting that members of Machinae play this game, so they can indulge in its amazingness and -possibly- join the clan dedicated to their divinity?

Hmm.  I'm level 10 now with tons o' bounty, yay.

I'd like to be around for this clan formation, but I don't know when I'll be available.  I'll likely be playing this week around 8-12 pm, GMT-8.

Whoever is going to start the clan should pick a time and date.

ive been trying to make a time, but everyone ahs conflicts!  whats making this hard is taht half the people are in europe and half in america, and that craetes hard time spots.  i can do both, being nocturnal.  lets try for Thursday night/Friday early morning, depending on where you are.
lets try around Midnight UTC, which is 8PM EST, for you americans.  server 4, free channel 3.
if it makes it easier, since the servers are often full, i have a teamspeak server you can connect to while we do it.  if you dont ahve teamspeak, no biggie.

any conflicts... please tell.  theres me, and my other MaSu addicted friend who wants to join, and we can both do it.  so we need 3 more people.

ZOMG

Well, I didn't know they were implemented yet (probably because I'm... not in a clan).

Maybe Maiet are partial to brides for extending clan names...

Could switch to the MaSu abbreviation...

I have pretty much lost interest in this game. It is fun though. My PC is just acting really eratically these days and I loose the will to hit it to make it work.

So, what's up with the clan right now? I couldn't make it because a) my mother was using my computer until 20 minutes ago, b) I couldn't get on the forum to check chan and server, and c) I got a "You cannot run the GunZ" error (which is gone now).

The clan should be called MachinaeCult or MachinaeTribe. Unfortunately, the latter is 13 characters long. Go with the MachinaeCult.

If they got rid of the hackers and eliminated the ping problems, I'd stick with it

I think it just needs more stay value.  It gets repetitive.  I already went back to CS:S, I only got to Lv11.

Yeah.  Seems to get a bit boring pretty fast.  I'll still be playing it often enough, hopefully.  But it looks like a MaSu clan won't be happening.  Takes 10 people to start one, doesn't it?
