Her name is Joanna Pacula, and the quote is from the Movie "Virus" (1999) starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Donald Sutherland.

Well, I don't know the title of the episode but it should be that one in which Mom choses to destroy all mankind on Valentine's Day because the professor broke her heart on that day years ago. You know, the one with the singing communist Valentine's card. ;)

It's kinda amazing though. I love that intro to "Attack Music" and even though I'm a very big Simpsons and Futurama fan, I weren't able to realize where the sample came from. For my defense I'll have to say that I never watched a Futurama episode in English, strictly German. ;) Well that isn't an excuse either but well, really great sample guys!

Futurama in german? And I'm worried 'bout watching anime dubbed to english! I once watched Blade Runner and RH - Prince Of Thieves in germany for couple of minutes, just to get good laughs. Especially scene when Robin arrives at england or end battles with sheriff are hilarious in german.

Dubs sucks!

I think it's a matter of being familiar with the language. Sure I'm laughing my ass off while watching "Samurai Pizza Cats" on a turkish channel, but since I've spoken German my entire life I know how people use the language these days to convey the meaning of words - that's why it doesn't seem so hilarious to me. I dare say that the German dubs of "The Simpsons" and "Futurama" are excellent, at least for German people. I like the German voices of Homer and Bender even better than the originals. But of course there are legions of German dubs that are the very pain in the ass of Genre fans. Especially anime suffer from very poor dubs in Germany. That's why subs are so well-liked in general. In 99% percent of the cases originals are the best choice of course.

Sorry to get so off-topic.

The samples in Timeline are from the Witchblade tv series...

The background chatter in Apocalyptica is recorded from the actual N.Y.Police radio on 9/11.

The woman saying Kung Fu Bouff in the beginning of Sidology 3 is the same as counting down her own theme song 'Bouff', Emily Booth.

The cryosleep samples are from Pitch Black and Ghost in The Shell.

Arvid is not Bron and Arvid is not Costner, but who is Arvid? Bron I know and Bron is on box, 'cause Bron must be on box. Costner is on box 'cause Costner is sausage and it might start to stink without box. But why Arvid is on box  that I don't know- Please help me, this is getting confusing?

Yes! And the message in the beginning of Attack Music is from the Futurama episode "Mother's Day" from season two.

I watched that episode today for the first time, ten minutes after I'd finished cooking with Attack Music as soundtrack (first time I heard the song too).

That was wierd.

I feel better now for sharing.

Dubs in german are hillariously bad not because they are in german but because they are _dubs_! BLEH!
I can't even stand dubbed animated movies.. not even Disney-films and they are very good in swedish compared to other languages..

The worst example of a dubbed movie has to be the rape of Mad Max (the original) when it was dubbed from English to... ENGLISH! WTF! (australian to american with horrible voice actors) It's a good thing the original sound is included on the DVD.. geesh..

HAHAHAHA ^^ Mad max being dubbed from Aussie english to American english. That is the funniest thing I've seen today. The funniest dubs are the ones say where you get an asian movie and try to use english words to sync with the mouth movements of the asian words. IE old jackie chan movies.

What cant they understand us or something?
Title: Re:Whos the woman talking on the start of "Origin"
Post by: Gravehill on March 08, 2004, 06:00:32 am
There are many movies where they dub or sub movies/tv-series made in english language in USA. I think it's pretty much same as they would dub or sub finnish movies where actors speak one of our dialects, let's say savo

I think it's quite hilarious 'cause even I can understand what is said and I'm not native in english! Well, subs are marginally excusable 'cause some of us have hard time of hearing (deaf cannot hear at all, for example).

Anyway, I've seen that dubbed Mad Max and it's really sad case. I totally agree with Vanti here...

Nope. I hate most all Icelandic dubs. (Some Disney movies are good, though. Aladdin, for instance, was considered examplary by Disney itself, surpassing the original.)

Title: Samples transcripts

so... has anybody a transcription of said samples(Witchblade/Pitch Black/GitS etc.)? Please?

I typed them up a long time ago with some help from Google:

Cryosleep

They say most of your brain shuts down in cryosleep. All but the primiative side, the animal side. No wonder I'm still awake.
(see Pitch Black Transcript (http://www.geocities.com/reasonswhyriddick/pitchblacktranscript.html))

To humans it is like staring at the sun, a blinding brightness that conceals a source of great power.
(see Excerpts from "Ghost in the shell" (http://www.geocities.com/ph1l1pp/gs.html))

Timeline

The idea of reincarnation comes from a natural sense that there is more to this world than we can taste or touch. Unfortunately, it misses the main point. Time.

You think of time as if it were a straight line, like a road or a train track, with the past at one end and the future at the other. The metaphor is seductive, but it's highly misleading. The world was flat until we discovered it was round.
(see Witchblade Transcripts, Episode 1.7: "Periculum" (http://www.mythtime.com/transcripts/periculumtrans.html))

You know, I used to think that time was linear, like a string. Maybe time isn't that way. You know, maybe each moment lasts forever and it's only our perception that streams them together. [...] Any time you want.
(see Witchblade Transcripts, Episode 1.8: "Thanatopsis" (http://www.mythtime.com/transcripts/thanatopsistrans.html))

I never did find ones for Origin, though.

Erica Oberg. Lead singer of Inja, and partner of Kahl, I believe.

She's in the credits in the album where it says: "All songs composed, written and performed by MACHINAE SUPREMACY with Erica Oberg
