Title: LIVE PRODUCTION FROM ASSEMBLY 2011
Post by: robert on October 09, 2011, 04:37:39 pm
On Friday the 14:th of October at 19:00 CET (13:00 EDT) we are releasing the the full-length concert from Machinae Supremacy's live performance at Assembly 2011 on The Pirate Bay. You will also be able to catch a few highlights from the concert on our official YouTube channel, starting with Through The Looking Glass, available right now.

This is a high quality production shot with numerous cameras. All of this was made possible thanks to the hard work of the Assembly crew and organizers. A big thanks to them.

That's about as needed as THIS VIDEO RIGHT NAO. I can't wait a week. Btw though, I'm really glad its going via BT, especially TPB. Shows that it really can be used for legal constenting distribution.
Also, know that I will seed this forever.

Same here! I'll seed this forever too! I can't wait to see this full length! And I'm going to delete my other thread about this since Rob just covered it here. Thanks Rob and everyone else in MaSu! This is freaking awesome, you have no idea how hearing this news was like me being a kid at Christmas right now. I can't wait for next week too!

Also any chance the Tour Dairy vid could be released through TPB as well? I love to have that.

Awesome, I still haven't got round to that, mainly, I think, due to the fact that it would take a long time to stream, and once I'd streamed it, I would feel obliged to watch it all in one chunk. Can'twaitcan'twaitcan'twait.

EDIT: WTF?!

It's good that you guys will help seed it because I might not be able to seed all the time.

I guess we'll release the asm live on friday and add another torrent for the tour diary just as a bonus. :)

I will seed it overnight while I'm sleeping, as often as I remember to do so, and maybe at a severely reduced rate when I'm at work. But definitely not if I'm doing any online gaming. I don't trust my router to prioritize that well. = P

I'll also be permanently seeding both torrents. Can't wait for this.

Why not just tell your torrent client to throttle your speeds while you're gaming? That's what I do, and I still seem to be able to host a decent 16-player game while seeding and leeching at 50 KB/s.

Because I don't do torrents on my gaming rig, I do them on my netbook, which I don't care quite as much about potentially poisoning. = P

Because I don't do torrents on my gaming rig, I do them on my netbook, which I don't care quite as much about potentially poisoning. = P

If your router can't handle routing packets for your game plus another symmetrical 50 KB/s of traffic, I'd say it's time for a new router. I host games on my 360 while my PC is torrenting all the time, and my router seems to keep up just fine.

No one in my immediate area has DSL, because the phone lines here are simply too old to support it. So pretty much anyone who has broadband has cable. My peak down speed is about 15 Mbps, but more and more I only manage that at night, when normal people are asleep. During the day, down speed can drop as low as 1 Mbps or less. I'm not actually sure what my up is, but I know it's always lower than down, and so I expect it's somewhere around 3-5 Mbps, if that. Since down speed drops so far, I can only assume up gets even worse, meaning... I probably get below 50KB/s up for much of the day.

Jesus guys, I know it's awesome and everything, but it's coming out tomorrow. You don't need to tease us with stuff right up to release. By the rate you're going, they'll be no new material to watch when it is finally out. Just, slow down.

EDIT: This make me look like I don't like it. That is not the case. I love these videos. Plus, I love how you have 1 from each of your albums: Player One, TTLG, Edge And Pearl and Rocket Dragon.

It just sat there for about five minutes saying there were 0 connected peers, and as I was typing a message here, it suddenly started downloading.

I've instructed Transmission to seed the fuck out of this when it's done. Other than the occasional necessary reboot (updates, etc) and times when I need to take my laptop somewhere, I plan to seed this at all times. I suppose I could also throw a Linux distro and Transmission on an old tower I've got sitting here and make that my dedicated MaSu-torrent-seed-box, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

I salute thee - you have yet to witness something wonderful, something only topped by the actual thing - really!

O(n)T; It seems my memory was not just flawed - IMICP is _REALLY_ awesome live!
Way to go and shizzles, too bad I wasn't there, would have been even more epicer (one of few words that could describe MaSu, really).

All in all.. Thank you! And for gods sake, play in your own country - show some patriotism!!

JEBEM ! Fuck, this was most aweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesome shit evar. Left me speechless.

btw, check nicky's snare drum. fucking hilarious :DDD

EDIT: I'm somehow sad about not paying equal attention to Gordon. Why ?

EDIT2: The crowd was somehow controlled? Because they didnt seem to enjoy that show appropriately. (but those two little boys, they were awesome ! :D)

Whoa, have these intricate synth-details always been in Edge and Pearl? If yes, they've been totally drowned by the guitars on Overworld.

For the Gordon thing, I noticed even in the first video, there were barely any shots of him, throughout the entire film. I was quite disappointed there were more shots of the guy looking at the lock screen on the computer next to him than there were of Gordon on his own.

They were stunned. i was like them, when i saw MaSu live for the first time. I wanted to pay attention to music, not jumping etc...  however, I've jumped a little, and sang along with Robert... but these people were more like O.o than ^_^, which makes me sad :(

EDIT: I enjoyed warcry "Wii1nte3erstoOOo?O!orm!" :P Edit2: (Like Hadou and Mashed) :P

It may not be something everyone notices, but the way my brain has been trained by years of gaming, I track pretty much EVERY movement in my field of view. So all that hand and arm movement actually bothers me to an extent, because I can't help but pay attention to it, despite the fact it's not worth paying attention to.

How come live one is way better, what can be heard on (mainly)force feedback, rocket dragon, player one, attack music, persona, and indiscriminate murder is counter-productive ?

Post by: mAsUfAn_1337 on October 17, 2011, 05:15:45 am
So, don't know if anyone is doing this, but I am going to be converting this whole thing to an iPod/iPhone friendly format and resolution, so you can watch it on the go. And I will also be ripping all the audio and splitting it up by song. So if your computer can't download 3.19 gigs, you can at least have the audio. Both of these will be put up on TPB.  I will update this post with a link when everything is up and ready for public consumption. Until then, there is always YouTube.  I'm pretty sure this is OK, considering MASU gave us the video for free; and because I'm not getting anything out of this, besides lectures from my dad for using all the bandwidth to upload and seed. Still, Robert, if you see this, let me know if you guys are OK with this.

Interesting.

You know what? I want like an 8k video with the same style as from 5:15 onwards, so you can watch the same video several times, just watching a certain camera angle. That would be so awesome.

*shrugs* Mistakes happen. It's part of what makes a concert special; it's not recorded several times and mixed until it's absolutely perfect. It's realtime, so if you miss a note or go off key, there's no going back to do it over, you just soldier on and pretend it never happened.

Additionally, mistakes are sort of a good thing. Mistakes don't happen in playback, so little mistakes just prove it really is live.

It's not only normal practice but a must-to-do. If you're gonna release a concert video the sound must be recorded "multitrackingly", so you could edit or re-record something what gone wrong. And when you edit video you must hide such things like scratching someone's nose, connecting plugged-out cords and so on. I always tell that filming is a half of magic, another half is editing. So, that fact shouldn't be shocking.

But it's interesting though to see sneak peaks of bloopers.

I just think it would have been awesome to have the full video feeds from every camera, like in the clip posted earlier, for those fans who want to experience a MaSu concert fully, but have never had the change to go to one. I'm not saying that I don't like the video, because it's the most epic thing I have ever watched with my eyes, but an "uncut" and behind the scenes look or something would be so awesome.
I'm definitely not trying to sound like I am complaining, because everyone involved did an awesome job, and I thank you guys for it.

Update on the progress of my stuff:
Video: I just upgraded to Sony Vegas 11 today, so I will be rendering out the iPhone versions tonight. I will be making two versions, one that is 640x480, for those with 3rd generation or lower; and a 1280x720 version, so those with an iPad or 4th generation iPhone can watch it in highest quality.

Audio: Tomorrow I will be sitting down and splitting up the video by song, and then converting all of those to audio. I will be using Apple Lossless so you guys get the highest quality possible. However, since I have more experience with video than audio, I want to know what settings I should use when converting. I think I'll just end up using Sony Soundforge Pro 10, so if anyone who is better with it than me can suggest the best settings, that would be great. Also, I am (hopefully) going to make some kind of album art for it, and I will set up all the ID3 tags so you guys don't have to.

Once all of these items are done and quality tested, I will be uploading them all to The Pirate Bay. I ask any of you that can to seed once it's up, because I do not know how much I will be able to.

Is there any way you could be talked into putting the audio in a non-proprietary lossless or near-lossless format? Some of us don't allow Apple products or software anywhere near our machines, and I'd hate to miss out just because of the file format.

Thanks for that. Especially the audio. I'm glad that you're using ALAC (I love my iPod) but I feel it is rather unneccessary since the audio from the video is encoded at.... 192kbps MP3 I think? Seems rather stupid to add in a load of wasted bytes.

Foobar 2K? There's an ALAC decoder that'll allow you to convert them into any format you like. Plus, it's all free and open source.

S'cool.
I'll link ya, just so you know where to look:
Main program: http://www.foobar2000.org/
ALAC Decoder: http://www.foobar2000.org/components/view/foo_input_alac
Install the program and install the decoder (you should be able to just click on it to do that) and then import the ALAC files into the main window, in the empty space. Right click and "Convert" using the parameters you set, like format, quality, compression etc.
Have fun!

It seems Nautilus may be reading the bitrates wrong for my media. I checked some MP3's that I know for a fact are 192 kbps, and Nautilus reports 165.

Also, I believe the description for the video said 192 kbps, but I have yet to check.

It seems Nautilus may be reading the bitrates wrong for my media. I checked some MP3's that I know for a fact are 192 kbps, and Nautilus reports 165.

The big question, then, is CBR or VBR?

Well the MP3's I checked were VBR, but as for the video, you'd have to ask whoever encoded the file. I tried viewing the properties using SMPlayer, and was only more confused.

So now the description says 192, Nautilus is reporting 178, and SMPlayer states 128. I'm fairly certain both pieces of software are wrong and the audio really is encoded at 192kbps, but now I wanna know WHY they are misreading bitrates. ???

Initial Audio Stream? Try scrolling down and showing us the "Audio Streams" category.

That heading displays what VLC calls "Audio Tracks." It doesn't have anything to do with the encoding.

Hmm fair enough. Then truly, I have no idea why they are giving incorrect readings.

Alright, update #2.

First off, I'm glad to see there is some interest for this, it makes all this work worth it knowing I'm doing something people want. I would ask that you please spread the word about this, so all MaSu fans can enjoy it.

Second, I think, assuming my limited tech know how is correct, that anyone with a 4th gen iPhone or iPad can just use the original file instead of a converted one, since the 4Gs support 1280x720 already. Fortunately, I have an iPad, so I can test this. The version for 3rd gen and back came out to 846 MB, by the way.

Third: I finished the album art today, and it was a bitch. Mostly from cutting out the Assembly logo from a screen from the video in Photoshop. I wanted it to be perfect. I used the 2560x1600 wallpaper that has the version of the MaSu logo from the video (http://machinaesupremacy.com/wp-content/wallpapers/masu-scratch-logo-2560x1600.jpg (http://machinaesupremacy.com/wp-content/wallpapers/masu-scratch-logo-2560x1600.jpg)) as the base, and even bought the actual font from the Redeemer cover (Microgramma) off of Linotype. Here is a link to it: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/37844107/ASM%202011%20art%20%28final%29.tif (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/37844107/ASM%202011%20art%20%28final%29.tif)

Fourth: I decided, after reading a couple of your comments on Apple Lossless, to go with MP3. I converted the first song (The Great Gianna Sisters) using  one of the default templates in Soundforge Pro 10. The properties I set it to convert to were as follows, 192 Kbps, 48,000 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo. I synced it up with video using Vegas, and didn't notice any lost in quality. I also posted it on Dropbox so that you guys can hear it for yourself and tell me if I need to make an changes: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/37844107/Gianna.mp3 (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/37844107/Gianna.mp3).  Once I hear from you guys, I'll make any necessary changes, and then convert and upload the whole thing to TPB, along with the video.

+1

Also dude, you're now converting lossy to lossy. That's even worse. Try using something like FLAC level 8, with the best compression. That'll leave you with the smallest, best quality file. Even though the file won't have most of the audio data that most FLACs have because it's not a true lossless file, converting lossy to lossless will minimize artifacts and sounds as good as the original video.

EDIT: Typo'd "LFAC." lol.

You're welcome ;D. I just thought I'd save everyone some trouble doing it themselves.
And if it really makes that much of a difference, I'll do it in FLAC. But then you would have to unpack it yourself, right? FLAC can't be played on an iPod as is. At least that's what I have always thought. I want there to be as little work on your end as possible.

Alright, did some tests, going to go ahead and use FLAC. Right now I'm up to Bouff, converting one song at a time in Vegas, after trimming down the video. After all these are done, I'm going to go in with dbPoweramp and put in the ID3 tags, and then fix those up in iTunes, and then post them up.

Edit: realized I was rendering out the whole project each time, instead of just the section I want, so I may not get this done tonight, because I'm going to have to do something much more tedious now.

Not to make your life harder, but if you have the software, could you not just run all the FLAC files through a converter and pack them in the final distributable as well as the FLAC? I'm assuming you're torrenting this, so size is less of an issue than it would be in a traditional server standpoint.

But think about this:

24bit 48khz FLAC from the Source -> Us
OR
24bit 48khz FLAC from the Source -> 192kbps (Possibly VBR) AAC Conversion -> FLAC Conversion (Lossy to Lossless) -> Us

The option, really, is FLAC or MP3? FLAC is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better.

Alright, finished putting all the ID3 tags on that I can using dbPoweramp, including album arts. At this point, if you guys are satisfied with that, I can chuck 'em all in a ZIP and throw it up on TPB for you all. However, if you want to put them on your iPod or play them in iTunes, you will have to convert them (I'd suggest ALAC, its lossless to lossless). However, if you guys want I can do that on my end and put that in the ZIP file as well. I'm still waiting for a response from Schattenjaeger on his request as well.

Edit: Went ahead and converted for myself. And I have to say, if you ever need or think you'll need to convert audio or video files, get dbPoweramp, it did 17 FLAC level 8 to ALAC in about a minute and a half.

It's more about your computer hardware. Foobar 2k works just as well for me, converting 24/92 FLAC albums in around the same amount of time.

OK, I think I'm just gonna go ahead and throw both the FLAC and ALAC versions into one ZIP (or RAR, whichever causes the least loss of quality for the best compression). I'll put that up on TPB. I'll be putting up the video overnight, as to not slow down anything my parents are doing at the time. Actually, using WinRAR, anyone have any suggestions of what to do or not to do so you guys get the best quality stuff?

1) Please stop double posting, edit your most recent post if need be.
2) Why pack them all up in a ZIP/RAR/TAR? If I want to download the ALAC files, why should I have to download the FLAC stuff aswell just to unpack the RAR? Leave them as separate files for the user to select those they prefer.
3) Generally with that kind of file compression, they are lossless compress functions, so there is no quality loss. However, compression rates mean either: Longer compression times but smaller size or shorter compression time but larger file size.

Whatever happens, I would personally torrent the files as a folder with the files all separate within that folder, as opposed to having them as one big RAR. My two cents.

One folder for the FLAC
One folder for the ALAC.
Both will come with a modified version of the info txt file that came with the video, and a copy of the album art for your collection.

Edit: Torrent is up!!! http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/6783995  I'm seeding it now. Please remember to seed for eternity.
Edit 2: Guys, my up is crap right now, so it may take a long time to download, so once you get it downloaded, please, please, seed. I will try to seed as much as possible until I get some dedicated seeders.

It's a bit boring, tbh.

I would use a photo from the show.

Here's something I did in 5 minutes using Photoshop, just to show my idea of what a cool cover art would be. This is like a scetch, a real one would need high-res logo + photo etc.

I agree with Will. Hi-Res photo from the concert would have been epic, but this is fine, especially for what is effectively a bootleg.
I'm downloading both folders now, just so I can seed them. I will note though, if ever the original FLACs get unleashed, I will stop seeding this version, as it is from a lossy source, and I don't want people who just discover the band on TPB to think that this is representative of the audio quality of the band.

OK, quick update. I checked the torrent this morning (Eastern Standard) and it was at 1.78 g uploaded so far, but then I either paused it and forgot to start it again, or someone else touched it, either way, it didn't seed at all during school. I'm sorry to those who are trying to download it. Its back up now, but it's really slow. I apologize for that, my family has a 6 year old modem and router. As for Hadou's comment about the official version, I have no problem with you stopping seeding (or anyone else for that matter), but I will be leaving it up so if people don't want to download the official version (assuming that it is, according to Valet2, 24 bit 48 khz FLAC, and thus very large), they can download mine. I will simply edit the description directing them to the new better torrent. And again, thank you to everyone who is seeding now, and thanks to those who gave me suggestions and advice.

Now, I have the video in a iPhone friendly format, but I am wondering if there is enough interest here for me to put it up. It's easy enough to create yourself (just convert the original to a 640x480 MP4, there are probably templates for it in most popular video editing programs and converters). Until I see interest, I will not upload it, as to not kill my network and eat up what little bandwidth I have left.

Edit: My sister and I share a computer, and she needs to use it for homework. And uTorrent refuses to seed on her account, so I won't be seeding for a while. I apologize for this, and hope any of you who have it downloaded already pick up the slack.

Edit 2: Sis has computer again, will not be able to seed. I seriously need to speak to my mom about getting her her own computer.

OK, to those who are having issues, I'm sorry but I don't think I can do much on my end, I will be seeding this thing as long as is necessary for others to take over (assuming that ever happens). But I can only get 90 kbps up at best (yes I know, that is shit). do apologize for not seeding very much over the past couple of days, my sister shares my computer and she needed to use it for homework. My only advice I can give is be patient.  If worst comes to worst, I will put them up on Dropbox, 2 or 3 files at a time, leave them for say, 24 hours (to give everyone time to get them downloaded), then take them down and put the next group up. Inefficient, but better than you guys waiting for three days trying to download this.  Again, I apologize for any issues you are having. And I ask that once you do finish downloading, seed so others don't have this issue.

Oh! I know why I haven't been actively seeding much. I only DL'd the FLAC stuff = P

Edit: Okay, DLing the rest now. Even though I only care about the FLAC, I can at least seed the other stuff at a higher up than mAsUfan can manage.

Thanks guys, I've finally managed to download the ALAC files I was after. I am also downloading the other files I don't want in order to allow myself to seed the entire file.

I've have an email from Valet saying that the official source files won't be released now or in the near future. However, he reckons that they will be released at some point maybe.

This means that I will seed this thing until the end of time.

Yep, I'm seeding. Doesn't appear I had any activity while at work today, but I show 2.8GB up since my post last night.

OK, don't know if anyone will care about this, but..
Today I was re-listening to the Jet's n' Guns OST, and realized the credits music to the ASM performance is Endgame. Again, I don't think anyone will care (since most of you probably already knew the name of it), but since I didn't name the song on the file I uploaded, now you guys who didn't know it can rename the last song. Anyways, this will probably be the last post I make on the subject of the performance. Those who are seeding, keep seeding, and thanks so much for the support and advice.
For those who don't know, I uploaded an audio rip (in FLAC lvl. 8 and ALAC) of MaSu's performance at Assembly Summer 2011.  Here it is, please seed: http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/6783995
