First off is Terranigma.
Does anyone know this game ?
I played this game for 2 years i think..
Anyway, its probably somewhere for download, it really kicks ass.
NBA Jam also rocked, with the crazy assed slam dunks and everything (ITS ON FIRE!!)
Mortal kombat was always fun if you were with a couple friends.. it always turned out to having arguements though.. ("I was practising my move, you're not supposed to attack !!" - "Its a fighting game, attacking is the POINT !! ")
I could go on forever, but what snes games do you think is worth a mention ?
-

One of the few sport games I liked..
Rock n Roll Racing.. Donkey Kong et al.. um, no others spring to mind. :P
MK sucked on the SNES I thought.. played that on the Mega Drive.
-
I reckon Tales of Phantasia and Legend of Dragoon are the greatest Japanese release only games EVAR!
ToP is finally getting an English language release on the GBA soon, but the rating on the box image is proof that they've dumbed it down quite a bit.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tales_of_phantasia
There goes all the classic lines when they're on the boat.
-
Crazy.. I was just reading that article just as you posted it. :P
-
My opinion differs wildly from that of everyone else.

I'm about two hours into Tales of Phantasia, I'm liking the battle system a lot. Terringma is also much awesome but I'm stuck :( Might start it again someday. Bahamut Lagoon is excellent, one of Square's best RPGs. Its strategy-based, you can download it from The Underdogs. I've neer played any other of Square's SRPGs so I couldn't say if its worse/better than FF Tactics, but its so worth a go.
-

I wouldn't say DeJap's "translation" of the boat scene are anywhere near faithful to the original text. :p As far as I know, the game is child-friendly, he just spontaneously goes overboard in some parts.
Equinox! There's a good game. My brother bought it on a whim for 50 kronor years ago, and we don't regret it. Some puzzle rooms are pure evil, though. When the level designers noticed that they had invisible, exploding and conveyor-belt blocks at their disposal, they made sure to make the most out of them. Sonia is a sissy, too, and there's an evil bug where you teleport yourself into the middle of the ocean if you try going to the near-final island without restarting the save file first. That aside, it's really cool, but requires alot of patience.
Stunt Race FX rules too. The look and feel they've pulled off in some areas of the game are better than the stuff you see in F-Zero GX, like the underwater tunnel with higher contrast and more colors.
I'll have to get ahold of this Terranigma sometime.
-
Then tell us what it is.
Tales of Phantasia is a very mediocre game with a pretty boring battle system and hideous plot, Star Ocean sucks, Chrono Trigger sucks, SoulBlazer is better than Terranigma (but Terranigma is still pretty ok), Bahamut Lagoon is fun for a little bit, Legend of Gaia sucks a whole lot, I don't care for Zelda... what else? Oh, I guess things I actually like.
I like the first two Shin Megami Tenseis, Front Mission, uh... Clock Tower is very good.
Also, Legend of Dragoon is on the PSX and very much released in English.
-

Yeah, or like "No you can't pick Sub-Zero, that's unfair!" - "If it was unfair, you couldn't select him!"
-
My favorite is "Dude, that's cheap! Stop!"
".. It's not 'cheap.' It works. Learn to block, dumbass."
("Get over 'ere")
-
Chrono.
Trigger.
End.
Of.
Discussion.

Even better is playing Tekken 4 as Steve (a boxer)
'OMG STOP DOING THE SAME MOVES'
'I'm a fucking boxer, all I have is punch. IDIOT'

I'm gonna be a fanboy here and say Super Mario World. I mean, come on, how can you have a SNES and not Super Mario World?

No...
You missed it, the discussion ended up a few posts.

Can't blame me for trying to steer the topic back round (:

Ouch! You disliked most of the best Super NES RPGs. Shame shame! Anywho, Illusion of Gaia is my favorite out of the Soul Blazer trilogy. I just sold my Super NES copy of Chrono Trigger on Ebay for $100. I figured I still got the Playstation version and I needed the money.
-
Yeah, Illusion of Gaia. Whatever. Also I hate FF6, but find 5 rather fun.
I'd like to know what else you think are "the best Super NES RPGs," so I can see if I liked them or not (probably not).

You're talking to Magicman there. He also dislikes Bioware, the Elder Scrolls series and chocolate.

Terringma is also much awesome but I'm stuck
Where are you stuck at ?
I was stuck too, thats why i played it for 2 years.
Well, actually, i played it for like 2 months, and after a LONG while i continued and then i found out how to move on :)
-

Although not many people bother to differentiate the two...
Bahamut Lagoon is what is known as an SRPG or a Strategy RPG.
Final Fantasy Tactics is a TRPG or Tactics RPG.
I wont bother outlining any exact definitions but the quick way of saying it is that the difference between the two (the line blurs more with every new hybrid) is that TRPGs have less environmental interraction (things like freezing water and cutting things down to get past) and are shown in an isometric view with height playing a major role in unit placement. SRPGs tend to have a fair bit of enviromental interraction and are shown mostly in a plain old top down view, they are the ones where you are taken away to another screen or shown a zoomed in view when close up attacks are executed.
I'm sure that was badly written and all, but that's pretty much it.
There goes all the classic lines when they're on the boat.

Nah, I had a friend who is fairly fluent in Japanese compare the translation with the original. His conclusion was that the difference was the "strength" of our words VS the original Japanese wording, pretty much our words are seen as being more offensive even when used playfully and that if other words were used in their place the feeling behind the speach wouldn't have come across the same.
Again I'm sure that I wrote that poorly... I just hope that I got the right idea across.
-
Although not many people bother to differentiate the two...
Because it's a load of bullshit.
-
Final Fantasy Tactics is a TRPG or Tactics RPG.
It's also the worst game I have ever had the misfortune of playing.
'OH NOES, A RANDOM ENCOUNTER WITH THE SAME GUYS I JUST KILLED WITHOUT TAKING ANY DAMAGE'
-
Mega Man X 1-3...playstation ruined the franchise
-
So much random hate and ignorance in here.
SNES games other than RPGs that I like:
.
..
...
I know there are some others I just can't think of any right now.
EDIT: I remembered one; Gundam Wing: Endless Dual.
-
I liked megaman X
And zelda :)
-
Tekken and mortal kombat = worst fighting games ever
-

I sit corrected, then. :) When I think about it, Tales of Symphonia isn't innocent in this field either, but I imagine some of the things Zelos says were "dumbed down" over here when it comes to what words he use; the meaning is probably the same.
-
Tekken and mortal kombat = worst fighting games ever
Full agreement.
-
Mortal Kombat was about violence, not fighting. Oh the mirth to memorise fatalities to pwn your friends.
-
Dark Rift ftw!
-
mortal kombat = violence? HAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHA!
-
Mortal Kombat did have some decent gameplay when ti came to multiplayer, it's just that the input system was somewhat crude. If you want artful gameplay and input mechanics that require effort beyond timing 10 billion button presses for a single fancy kill... Street Fighter and Fatal Fury is the shit, there are others that are good, they were few and far between.
-
Super Probotector: Alien rebels (AKA Contra in some parts of the world)
Illusion of Time/Gaia as some people have talked about was the best game I've ever played and still is. I dunno why but it did stuck to me allot more then Zelda did hehe An absolute fav. A game that I think quite many missed when the SNES was at its bes years was Young Merlin, a Game from westwood studios. It had a quite different styles then many other RPG's of the time.
-
Turok : Worst game name ever.
-
Turok : Worst game name ever.
I.... am Turok!
-
all my game time went to f-zero and yoshi's island.
-
(late to the party)
It was all about the Starwing in our house, baby.
-
I have Yoshi's island but never got F-Zero... I'm not even sure if it was released here... infact Chrono Trigger of all fucking things was not released here.
-
F - zero was okay i guess.. loved the soundtrack.
-
F - zero was okay i guess.. loved the soundtrack.
Hell yes! I'm still trying to track down all the OSTs of the series. Had no money when I could have ordered the GX/AX OST from Lik-Sang.
-
Lik-Sang is Gods gift to children who think their asian.
-
seiken densetsu 3 was pretty awesome
-
How come no one has mentioned Super Metroid, it has the be one of my favorite games of all time.
I haven't played all that much SNES games, other than FFV and FFVI, because my family got me and my brother a Sega in stead of a SNES.
Considering getting some games on a emulator, (are we allowed to talk about that here?) any recommendations?
-
seiken densetsu 3 was pretty awesome
That's one of my favourites! Though the targetting system is a bit of a mess sometimes. I really wish they'd do something about a re-release that includes an English language version... We got a great remake of Seiken Densetsu (Final Fantasy Adventure) so I don't see it as being impossible.
-

My oh my,
so many different points of view ;)
i pretty much liked the following, that were mentioned before:
Zelda (played it through but never found all the hearts)
Super Mario World (got nearly all Levels)
Final Fantasy 2(5) and 3(6) (also played through, but the one with cecil was best)
Chrono Trigger (dont you ever curse this game cause its really great, seen most of the endings)
Super Probotector (yeah that was fun, especially for two people)
Starwing (fox) (Slippy !!!! not again :( )
Street Fighter II (first and only Beat em up i liked and played to the end)
Rock´n roll racing (nearly forgot this one ,too much fun, too good music )
as for others i liked
Top Gear (that was fun)
Bomberman (how could you forget that ?)
R-Type (that was really good music)
Ogre Battle (played it once to the end, ended as bad guy :'( but best strategic game i think)
Castlevania IV (another one u missed, the music and graphics were totally awsome :o )
Secret of Mana (man, never forget hat you could play it with friends, but too much level up fighting)
Mario Kart ( what a heck of a game took me a long time, will never forget the music ;D )
Mystical Ninja (dont know the japanese name and if it was mentioned before, great fun though)
maybe later more, im just traveling through my past :D
peace
-
Starwing (fox) (Slippy !!!! not again :( )
My mom's boyfriend traded our starfox to someone in exchange for the three vikings. Which is fun and all, but ... i missed starfox.
-
The Lost Vikings is the correct title of the game. I have that one on my Sega.

'Twas infinitely better on the Amiga, as everything was better on the Amiga.

er, yeah, thanks. thought that sounded a little dodgy.
i think i head something about a remake or sequel or something on the GBA or DS or whatnot.
-
There's a GBA remake of Lost Vikings, iirc.
-
Right now im busy with Mortal Kombal 3 Ultimate..
FATALITY

The sequel was released on the PC in the mid 90s, not sure about console versions though.
Now back to SNES talk... Black Hawk/Blackthorne, I thought it was great, what say you?
-
I don't know.
What was the game where you played some topless hunk (it was highly homoerotic) and you go in a castle and have to go up dozens of levels.. you get verious sorts of powerups for your sword which allow you to shoot things from it etc. Very homoerotic, very silly, and yet i remember it fondly. I think the name mentioned the sword in question.
-
The only game I can think of where you shoot things from a sword is Zelda... I know I've seen others do this, just not on the SNES, and NOT homoerotic.
-

Rollermines ftw.

Im in the desert castle already.. A link to the past :)

I never owned a snes... but i did own a nes. Had about 4 games for it, SMB1 + 3, Duck hunt (with light gun) and loz II, which owned, never got far though.
-
I have standalone SMB and the two in one Duckhunt with SMB, I also have some of the other shooting games.
-
duckhunt sucks.
:D
-
duckhunt sucks.
:D
Fuck you.
Duckhunt is all anyone needs in terms of video gaming. Anything else is just bonus.
-
duckhunt sucks.
:D
This is why no-one likes you.
-
They do, they just express themselves in sarcasm.
:-*
-
The NES Zapper is still to this day the most light weight and acurate lightgun ever. Every gun should factory aligned like it, having to set up lightguns yourself only to slouch later sucks.
-
because it senses light and for that matter you could shoot at a lightbulb and win easily.
-

There's more to it than that. I guess it might work for some games though.

bring me someone who can actually FINISH Super Ghouls n' Ghosts and ill show you someone who is WAY too skilled for thier own good.......................ohh Super Star Wars/Empire Strikes Back/Return of the Jedi are (not were) the shit
-
I beat Super Ghouls n' Ghosts :<
Multiple times actually.
-
how am i not suprised.....
-
I beat it once. Not a bad game but I didn't really want to play through it again.
It does not take a master to beat, just some time.
-

Yeah return of the jedi, i beat that game... do you know how many gotdamn lvl's there are !?

No. Do tell.
-
I forgot, i was just .. saying.. like there are a LOT levels.
-
OK, that didn't occur to me.
Anyone ever play Live a Live?
-
no, i did saw it though. i thought it was lame :P
-
Live a Live isn't bad. The experience was ruined by playing it on a PC though.
-
Or dying.
ha ha
-
Last I checked dying is only one of the endings (world destruction).
-
im sorry but FF 2 aint 5 ;)
-
Not shit. 2 is 2, and outside of Japan, I do not remember where... 2 is the alternate name for 4. I don't remember 5 ever having an alternate name.
What started the whole number fuck ups was the fact that FF3 never was released in the westarn market. 3 was never released because all the main characters in the game are males and the market was not so accepting of such things in games of that type back then. A similar thing happened with the third Lunar game (the series' obligatory gaiden), no-one thought that a game with a magic school and 90%, non busty, female main characters would have sold (outside of Japan) at the time.
-
i know a site where you can download the most rare and good snes roms.
free.
-
So does everyone.
-
do you ?
:D
-
Yes, true.
-
Romnation should cover your arse most times.
I don't download games all that often anymore, I like to buy the real thing. Downloading is now what I do only when a game was not released here or if I find a version of a game released here to be an insult compared to a previous release that didn't make it this far.
<fanboyanger>
e.g. Tales of Phantasia, it's now out in english on the GBA. They raped it, the character's personalities have been gimped in the name of fucking censorship. The difficulty of the game has dropped to the point where you can finish it without having to level up... and they removed the theme song and voice acting from it, something that the GBA could easily have pulled off as has been proven on more than one prior occasion.
</fanboyanger>
-

Get ready to be pwned.
-
Not as many roms per page as I'm used to seeing, some broken download links too... but they go out of their way to keep their lists clean of the 10billion+ BS roms of games like Chrono Trigger, and to put translation patches on the download pages instead of pre-patch everything.
-
maybe the broken links are because its a dutch server, it works fine for me..
You know the game Ninja Warrior's ?
-
I have a full SNES ROM Set. ^^
Chrono Trigger is an immense RPG, really liked Sword of Mana, though its sequal was kinda crap. Super Mario RPG is also good, and those now GBA games are good.
-
If you don't have the collector's mentality, Super Mario All Stars is a good and handy pack. I bet there's pretty much of those carts around. It doesn't have the Mario World though, I still feel sad I couldn't grab it to my "collection" when PS was introduced and SNES games were for sale + cheap.
F-Zero really rocked my world and I'm still into it, like games that have no specific target age group. Original F-Zero for SNES is still the only F-Zero to me, King league with Golden Fox = woohoo. _|,,/
What comes for ROM's... Thanks to emulating I've been able to play Gundam Wing, Endless Duel. It's such a good game, maybe a bit clumpy, but really cool and I think it's a shame it was never translated into English and was never available outside Japan. If I remember right.
But does anyone remember Jurassic Park II: The Chaos Continues?
-
But does anyone remember Jurassic Park II: The Chaos Continues?
I remember the first one on the SNES. Never before had i played something so CUTTING EDGE.
-

Actually those two games are so different from each other... Wasn't the part one from, like, bird-perspective? I didn't like that either. Anyway, this part two for SNES was a sidescroller with neat graphics. Probably nothing if compared to some other games, but I think it lacked only in having a saving option. Sigh, the missions were so hard because of it.

I played the first one online with a friend (the emulator i use has netplay), and we both took in turns in dieing on the exact same part over and over. The guy at the beggining made it all worth it, though.
"WELCOME TO JURASSIC PAAAAARK"
-
Jurassic park on the snes sucked.
You have like a overhead person view outside, but when you enter a building it goes third person and makes you scare the crap out of yourself when turning around and discovering a monster who has been shooting at you for a minute...
-
Jurrassic Park scared me as a child, i never wanted to into the buildings, and the t rex running around outside.. i mean.. OMFG.
Never completed it though, it was no megaman x. nothing is, cept MMX.
The monsters didn't shoot you, just spat at you and bit you. If i hadda saw a raptor or spitter with a shotgun i just woulda dropkicked my snes out a window.. back then, not now.. *looks to the distance* come home snes.. come home. *sniff*
-
Aye Megaman X was awesome !
The gun combo's were awesome.. too bad you had no more use of them once you obtained the ultra blaster from (FUCK what's his name again, ah i remember) Zero, the red dude who dies later in the game..
Never beat Sigma Ultimate though..
After he dies, his head goes in this super machine and just spraying fire and waving his claws and stuff.. didn't know where to hit him.
-
Zero shouldn't have died, he SHOULDN'T HAVE DIED DAMNIT!
But his death gave me passion to ride on through the game and own that baldy fucker. And his stupid head. You'd think a big villian like that woulda hit puberty at some stage.
-
Zero shouldn't have died, he SHOULDN'T HAVE DIED DAMNIT!
You guys are ruining my five years of therapy.
Even though I soon after realized that death does not matter in a world that never ends. MMX pwns j00~ and Zero, who still lives in my memories, is t3h secks.
...umm. Just don't start talking about Darth Vader.
-
How about Joda then ?
-
How about Joda then ?
How dare you even try to compare Yoda and Darth Vader. And fool us to wander to the Great Fields of Off-Topicness!
-
Another great game was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV : Turtles In Time
Anyone played that ??
You could throw enemy foot soldiers against the screen :)

That game was awesome, and still is! You gotta download an emulator and play online 2 player with someone. :)
-
I have the game, and the OST :)
The music is godly.
-
Battletoads was better.
