First trailer is out :
http://www.firstshowing.net/2008/07/10/must-watch-first-international-trailer-for-max-payne/
-
i'd like to note the trailer is for an actual big budget film that looks good.
The link in the first post is for a short that will never apparently come out. :P
-
All the people moaning about the angels of death and whatnot on youtube and wherever need a bit of a slap. Have they never played the game?
Personally i think it looks great so far and has real potential, i hope that potential is realised.

I think it mostly looks good.
But, he does not look like Max Payne. Aint there real actors in the comic style cut scenes of Max Payne 2?
They could have used them instead :).

Oh bummer... I didn't remember the first post because my head was just filled with joy over trailer of Max Payne so I just thought that it was the same project and thus posted link in this thread. Well, I'm sure world would have endured another Max Payne film as well and I'm pretty sure that I would have watched original topic's film as well and enjoyed it at some degree anyways but never mind if it doesn't come out I can live without it as well.
Anyway, when it comes to this trailer I really liked it. I don't mind Mark Wahlberg as Max Payne, I think that he will make it just fine. Surely there might have been people that would look more like Max Payne on games but I have always thought Max Payne as "average guy" cop that goes through hell so more important thing than visual look-a-like is his personality and I think that Mark Wahlberg can potrait the Max Payne's fell to the darkness pretty well.
-
That looks awesome! I hope those flying creature things are nightmares etc, the supernatural features of the games was always more.. subltle.
I see Aesir Corp., Mona in an elevator.. didn't spot any Valkyr, but I'm sure that'll be in it. Maybe those birds are meant to represent Valkyr? We'll see! No Vlad? :/
-
"Bang, you're dead Max Payne!"

A real Max Payne movie.
A real fscking Max Payne movie!!
I am very excited! :D
He looks more like Max Payne in Max Payne 1 than in Max Payne 2.

Ya.
Max Payne in max Payne 2 is modeled after this guy:
His name is Timothy Gibbs.
-
IIRC the first max payne was modeled after someone on the staff, not an actual actor.
I believe I caught a glimpse of Valkyr being injected into the guy without a shirt that screams and opens his arms out that you see throughout the trailer.
The angels appear to me as a metaphore/hallucination from those on valkyr as the angel of death coming to take them away. It looks like a cool way of doing it and avoiding a gorefest that would be a typical max payne style movie. If you notice at the end of the trailer we see a guy get pulled out a window, as the camera pans back in you can see clearly that max payne just gave him a shotgun to the chest. If you watch the guy and cut out the angel and added a blood spray, you wouldn't need to change it all - he got shotgunned out the window. I think showing the angel pull him out is just a clever way of replacing blood spray with a darker metaphore. Looks good to me!

You're right!
Man, this movie is practically GUARANTEED to kick ass! :D

Mark Wahlberg is a great actor (do not watch the Happening, however, trees want to kill us? fo.) and Max Payne being a great game and story goes without saying, so i am crapping my pants in anticipation for this movie, i know it's going to be good. Just how good, is the question. :)
-
I'm with y'all. I'm really excited about it. =)
This is the type of character Wahlberg is good at playing. Hes a good actor when hes put in the right shoes. And Max Payne has such a gritty and dark atmosphere that makes it fun to watch. I think, based on the trailer, they understand that and are rolling with it. :)
-
You should change the topic, or create a seperate topic for the FOX Max Payne movie.
-
You're right.
-
On http://www.maxpaynethemovie.com/
Is a longer trailer available, i just watched it and im starting to get more exited about this movie.
Though i was skeptical at first, at least the action looks good. The story however, empathizes too much on the noir setting and bringing that in a graphical context.
-
It's soon here, omgomgomgomgomg!
I will most likely buy a ticket for the premiere.
EDIT: After seeing the trailer, I've decided that I MUST get premiere tickets! D:
-
I ask, as I asked gaijin the other day, what the hell does flying things are supposed to be?
I hope they're nightmare things from Payne's fevered imagination, and nothing more.
-

They are supposed to symbolize the Valkyries. You know, the deities the Valkyr drug is named after? :)
-
Looks great, still :D

Yep. The baddies are taking the Valkyr drug, so the valkyries are the hallucinations they see. Nobody else can actually see them.

That much I got, although mythologically speaking, they were female.
I love Drakonis explanation. If that is the truth, I love them!

Well, since they are drug-induced hallucinations, then I wouldn't exactly expect them to look heavenly, nor "womanly". :P
-
Though in ancient mythos they were referred to in the female form.
Anyway Chris "Ludacris" Bridges as Jim Bravura, an internal affairs agent, what the fuck?!
-

Yes I know, but that is ancient mythos; this is modern noir. :P
And yeah, that was kinda weird, but meh, we'll see.
-
Needs moar noir and screaming babies + green haze + really long maze like corridors + snowing blood.

Max Payne is based on ancient mythos, welp!

My thoughts. You read them :]

Ludacris is actually a very good actor. ::)

I saw the shorter version of this...longer version is pretty coo

Well, duh, but note: "based on", it's not a literal conversion, and it fits the mood better this way imo. :P

Looks good. Gotta play Max Payne nao, since I've never done that yet.
Ahhhhh, so THIS is where Radicz0r's new nickname comes from :o
-
I think this looks rather promising.
Too bad they messed up Hitman. ;\

Though it not being "New" anymore since over a year, ill go ahead and say :
THE FLESH OF FALLEN ANGELS.
-
Though it not being "New" anymore since over a year...
Wheh, it's been a year now? What can I say... time flies really fast, doesn't it? Should've used "current" instead of "new", but then you could just quickly change your nickname Magicman-style, and the post's content would be outdated and then I would have to update it, which isn't something I like doing since my laziness...
(Also, you've been changing your nickname back and forth a couple of times over the course of the last year, that I am sure of. And I get confused really easily.)
Anyway, the trailer looks marvelous. I will definitely watch this one when it's out in theaters, which is like a great holiday for me, cause I hardly go there more than once a year. But it will be worth it, I hope.
-
Tomorrow its out!!
Who's already booked?
-
I was considering going to see it but not after reading this: http://kotaku.com/5064205/early-max-payne-review-horrid-dodgy-sub+standard
Sounds like a torrent out of spite and delete movie.
-
Wow, so many negative comments... Looks like the movie is a complete disaster D:
-
Stolen from comments: http://www.shortpacked.com/d/20080826.html
I never played the games before, so I'll be viewing as a movie and a movie alone, pretty much.
I'll wait to give an opinion until after I see it. ::)
Also:
"I'll assume the dialogue and sound editing are a result of Australia editing the movie anytime drugs were mentioned. "
:P
-
i tend to agree with the A.V. club:
http://www.avclub.com/content/cinema/max_payne
"While it's asking too much for [Wahlberg] to save a fashionably bleak, derivative, nonsensical film like Max Payne, his tight-lipped, inaccessible performance as a detective-turned-vigilante certainly doesn't help."
-

-
Well, neither have I.
Uh... on a second thought, I'd rather (pre)order Wrath of the Lich King than Payne. I've spoiled the plot of the games to myself reading Wikipedia a while ago. Looks like fun and a great scenario for a film.
-
It wasn't bad, it did hold alot to the movie, the game and movie almost start the same way too...stuck with the conspiracy theory, I don't spend my time criticizing movies rather than watching them because I want to, and that is probably why I did not mind the movie.
-
So from 1 to 10 how was it?
-
all depends on personal preference really, I would give it a 7...

-
I liked it a lot, watched it at the premiere.
It wasn't perfect, but hell, it was the best game-based movie that I've seen. Maybe even period. In my opinion.
-
Holy shitballs that movie blowed steamy piles of horse shit.
TONS of continuity errors, dialogue was predictable, actors looked like they were just saying their lines in order to get home and have some coffee etc.
Mark wahlberg just keeps having that gotdamn constipated face throughout the whole movie, the story is a mishmash of max payne 1 & 2, leaving a shitload out, not killing mona, showing even NO blood on max's wife. You don't get to see the dead baby, you don't get to see Vlad, they reduced VALKYR to a gotdamn energy drink, while the syringes are STILL ON THE WALL with a V on it!!!
Jim bravura is played by Ludachris, a black guy, wtf?!
Mark Walhberg never even played the gotdamn games, so he's just pretending to be someone he doesn't even know or understands, there are some elements that return from the game, such as Roscoe street station, Ragna rock, though they spell it as Rag Na Rock. Lupino's hotel isn't there, so no rico muerte, no captain baseball bat boy, no fire, no vlad, no ship, no fucking nothing. Fuck! what a letdown.
Only thing that was cool was the CGI bit with the demons, but that never had anything to do with the game anyway.
-

Well then, if this is the case... I won't go see the movie.

Rad, you do realize that the canonical ending to Max Payne 2 ends with Mona surviving... right? It's the hidden ending, try beating the game at the hardest difficulty level.
And besides, I think that Max Payne is a kinda hard movie to make, if they were to follow the game exactly. But tell me, what was from Max Payne 2?
But yeah, the movie wasn't living up to my expectations, but I still liked it. Maybe not as a video game movie, but rather as an action movie.
-
... And besides, I think that Max Payne is a kinda hard movie to make, if they were to follow the game exactly. ...
I can't think of a game easier and better suited to be adapted to a movie. Basically shorten down the running and gunning gameplay sections to fit in the time frame of a movie and leave everything else as is. Repeat with Max Payne 2 if the first one makes money.

True, but think of the content in the game. Those weird ass dreams, walking along the trail of blood. Yeah, I know I couldn't fit that in, writing that in a movie script would've been a pain in the ass.

Those would have been awsome for a movie, like the ending of 2001: A space oddysey... That my friend is awsome.
Hollywood ppl are just silly.
-
Bluescreen is your friend.
-
It's easy to say what they should've done, but I'm sure it was difficult to bring it all to a reality.
-

Who do you take me for, boy?!
Max is one of only two characters left alive, the other being Jim Bravura, who was left in critical condition. Mona survives in an alternate hidden ending on the Dead on Arrival difficulty level, but it's still not clear which ending is the official canon, regardless Max finds inner peace in both endings.
