Yeah, that's a bit of an odd subject to discuss on the Machinae Supremacy forum...
But here I was thinking. We are all on this forum because we think Machinae Supremacy is a great, fascinating and mindblowing band. Their music provides us with instant eargasm. I completely agree! But there also are some other bands I truly and utterly love.
For instance, Type O Negative. Especially these songs:
So I would like to hear of you, what orther bands or artists are you really crazy about? If you love MaSu and love something else equally, it must be very special!
-
Yeah, it's like choosing which kid of yours you love the most.
MaSu's Redeemer RE is the one of the two original CD's I do own right now and I'm in process of saving money for the rest of the records. The other CD is Limp Bizkit's Chocolate Starfish and the Hot-dog Flavored Water, but only because it was priced around 5$ and I was in a desperate need for a CD for my car stereo. Which sucks by the way.
But that's no way to compare. MaSu stays in my heart not only because of the awesome music, but also for the equally awesome community, of which I try to be an active part. Visiting this forums nearly every day makes me think about Machinae more often than about any other band. So MaSu is the unquestionable leader of my TOP 1 FAVORITE BANDS EVER since 2007 and hopefully it'll stay there for a long time.
-
This is going to be one short list ;D
The only ones I can think of whos even close to touching masu is Pendulum and Eminem, their oldschool stuff. But thats just what sets masu apart from them, EVERY DAMN SONG masu has made is awesome, while the ones i mentioned have some great and some not so great releases
-
I think I can only do 'Almost As'. MaSu I've listened to more of and purchased stuff from to a greater degree than any other band. And beat down panic and anxiety attacks to go and see them live.
So, for my almost as's:
Yoko Kanno (A composer, not a band, but just listen to the soundtracks of Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, to name but two of the shows she's worked on.)
The Kinks (Classic band, with some truly great songs amongst their catalogue. Much prefer them to that other popular beat combo.)
Adam and the Ants (Showmanship and musical talent in one delicious New Wave package.
-
I listen to vast amounts of awesome music with quite wide range. However, I can't think of any music that have ever had as much influence on me as MaSu. I can't even think of anything "almost as"... This is the only band I buy CDs from and the only one I have listened for such a long time without getting bored - not to mention the fact that I've never joined any other music-connected community before.
... But let's hope this thread won't simply evolve into a long series of "nothing compares to MaSu" :D
-
The only band with a standing comparable to MaSu's to me is Sacred Steel, a true metal (yes, that's a genre) band from Germany. They were the first metal band I really got into. I've only seen them at three gigs (since they almost never come to Sweden to play), one of which I arranged myself. Sample songs are here: http://www.youtube.com/artist?a=GxdCwVVULXe4uSGdVKmNgH_GzJWJN_Ja
-
The only band I think is close to MaSu is Synthphonia Suprema.
http://www.myspace.com/synthphoniasuprema
Because I won't compare MaSu to a pagan folk band (that I listen to most) or band of other genres that are not even alike.
-
Hmm. Latest Turisas release (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stand_Up_and_Fight_%28album%29) is, imo, 90% as good as MaSu stuff. I used to consider Freedom Call as my favorite, but not after their latest two albums...
The one band I consider as good as MaSu is The Mass Missile, a japanese rock band (so most likely nobody here ever heard of it), mostly due to the vocals, heavy use of keyboard sounds and the Harmonica.
And there is recently discovered I Am Kloot (alternative/indie rock apparently) which I also consider as good, with some pieces (Avenue of Hope, Proof, Your Favourite Sky) being in my highest regard :).
-
Out of everything I listen to (and it is a lot) I span across multiple genres. But to me this is an easy answer. NONE. ;D There has never been another band that encompasses every thing I like about music. Lyrics, style, originality, and quality. Machinae Supremacy has always held the number 1 spot. I can listen to them any day/night, in any situation I'm in, and or any mood I'm in. I can't say there are any other bands that would come close to them in my opinion. 8)
-
Well, I listen to a lot of different stuff. If you asked me to list my 2 favourite bands/artists, I'd probably say MaSu and Tom Waits. That doesn't mean I'll always feel like listening to one of those, depends entirely on the situation and my mood. MaSu is the band I've bought the most CDs of, though I've probably spent more money on Iron Maiden, those concert tickets are pretty damn expensive :P
I'll second Yoko Kanno as well.

Quoted For - fucking- Truth.
EDIT: Saying that, there isn't a Foo Fighters song I don't like, and I like most of what Sigur Ros have to offer, but they are a completely different genre of music.
-
I had hoped to find some music I could like too, because people think they're just as great as MaSu. Haven't had succes yet. :p
I definetly can't listen to MaSu in every mood, as I always try to find music that fits the way I feel. And even the weather contributes to that...
In the summer, I listen a lot to Kyuss, Queens of the Stone Age, AC/DC and Monster Magnet, it's absoluetly AWESOME then! And in winter I listen more to Katatonia, Shining, Cobalt and Nine Inch Nails. That music really seems to fit with the time of year.
For me, Nine Inch Nails, Type O Negative and Machinae Supremacy are my favorite bands. Perhaps they can be inspiration to others as well.
-
Meshuggah, Death, Necrophagist, Pendulum and Infected Mushrooms
-
I like She.
http://www.myspace.com/sheofficial
And then there are Meshuggah, Reso, Solar Winds, Trifonic, Pendulum, Tokyo Jihen, Rage Against the Machine, Anamanaguchi, Otep, Flobots... it goes on.
The world is filled with wonderful music. :)
-
The world is filled with wonderful music. :)
Ya. But none of it is as wonderful as MaSu.
The only other bands who come anywhere near their epicness for me are In Flames, Muse, Iron Maiden, Nightwish.
A couple songs from Papa Roach, Pendulum, Celldweller, Mnemic, Motorhead, Stratovarius... reach the level of fun of MaSu...
But MaSu are the only band who have not ever written even ONE boring song =).
Edit : Korn, Eluveitie :P
-
After the burial, Born Of Osiris, Raised Fist, Periphery, Despised Icon, Misery Signals, Legend, Haunted Shores, Duane And Brand0 :D All shall perish, For The Fallen Dreams, The Ghost Inside, Pagan's Mind, A Wilhelm Scream.. to name a few
-
Why are we only writing metal bands? 8-bit music is part of MaSu, too!
I like these the most:

Anamanaguchi? Love them...

I see we have a few Pendulum fans around.
Their bassist something dude Gareth just retweeted about MaSu.
http://twitter.com/GarethPendulum
Would be cool to see them share the stage some day. :)

Similar in the music... slightly.. but not even close as good:
Blood Stain Child - Freedom (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2oi-8xl7uZs)
stunning artist:
Ronald Jenkees - Guitar Sound (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2UvzD4gZnw4) => scratch of this song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smE-uIljiGo)
if you go by "stunning songs : whole list" >= 80% it has to be "2 Steps from hell".
2 Steps from hell - Dragon Rider (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Em42XjJKSX8)

lets stir this up...
there are three bands floating somewhere around that level for me:
Pink Floyd
Crippled Black Phoenix (sounds like mix of pink floyd, nadja and godspeed you! black emperor while being original)
and newer Current 93 (neofolk - never fails to make me gasp at it's freakness)
there are songs like Freezing Moon, Creep and Whiter Shade of Pale ... but these are usually exceptions
not to mention J. S. Bach, who is few levels above.
... and talking about music - Ludwig van Beethoven will always be the ultimate god ;)
// but according to last.fm MaSu took the most of my time compared to rest of musical world (excuse for my suicidal tendencies :D (such as mocking a band on it's forum))

Do you like Sigur Ros? You look like the kind of guy who would like Sigur Ros. Check them out. I can heartily recommend their latest album to anyone, and if you thoroughly enjoy that, try some of their earlier works :D
-
well... i've heard lots of praise on them, but never really checked out (only seen some vid on tv)
guess i'll go for Takk then :D
-
Shame on me, that i forgot to mention Pornophonique
=> Pornophonique - Space Invaders (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8xrZjrQ3GOQ)
-
pornophonique are sure great... but they need to release at least one more album to achieve awesomness :D
-
Pendulum is fantastic as well, but I think the only band that I truly love second only to Machinae is Kamelot. They have almost as wide a variety as MaSu. That being said, I think the only non-MaSu band who's album i have loved every single song off of would have to be Broadway. Unfortunately, they also only have one album... lol. I think my top bands in order would have to be Machinae, Kamelot, Underoath, and then anything else I feel like listening to that week
-
Woaw, you really love Kamelot that much? I have their CD The Black Halo, which I think is really good. But all their other recording (for what I've heard of it)... meh. Not that special. Which CD do you recommend me?
-
death, parkway drive, ink spots, frank klepacki
-
Still hard to put anything over MaSu's greatness but there are two bands I listen to about as regularly as MaSu and they are:
Infected Mushroom and Gorillaz
-
My latest addiction is Imogen Heap.
http://open.spotify.com/track/5Pu8aGz4MWf7gTVndzpxIe
-
Veil Of Maya, Born Of Osiris, After the Burial, Periphery, Austrian Death Machine :D Upon A Burning Body, Structures, Monuments, Circles, Stray From The Path, Ignite, Pennywise, The Offspring... it ain't that hard to name bands that are greater than Machinae..
-

We are here gathered as MaSu fans. So that made me extra curious when opening this topic. Would MaSu take a top spot with many people? Or would most of them have a very broad taste and love as many other bands as they love MaSu songs?
-
pink floyd, led zeppelin, beatles etc but in their genre masu is one and only
-
A band that really amazed me last year is Fleet Foxes. It's a style of modern folk. I saw them live in the Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam. That was really jaw dropping. Never heard anything so pure, so clear. It can't be compared in any way to MaSu, not the music and not the feeling it gives, but wow!
This is a recording I made with my phone, of their intro and opening song:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C6KYCNlvRXY
-
@WilllemNL: I checked out Fleet Foxes and wow, they are unique and I'm loving the sound. I checked out your video as well as youtube'd the actual song. Then I listened to Mykonos. Wasn't a big fan of White Winter Hymnal, but not all of their stuff sounds like that. I like it a lot!
EDIT: Also I'd like to share some more music. Some interesting things that have been floating through my headset:
Neon Indian - Polish Girl
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mi44E6mocvI
Passion Pit - The Reeling
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9U-Ul5qnLeQ
Passion Pit - Sleepyhead
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0RvPYRRRbE&ob=av2e
Ah hell, everything on the Passion Pit album lmao
-
Imo only Ensiferum and Soilwork get near MaSu in eargasmisness and everything else is left far behind.
-
@LuckysRevenge:
I couldn't listen to the songs you posted (not available in my country :-X ). Searched some on Youtube, and... I'm not into that type of electronic music. ::) It does have a special vibe, and that says something. I can see the 'special' in this.
Some electronic (and semi) I like:
Portishead - Roads: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQYsGWh_vpE
Juno Reactor - God is God: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8LY2VgiikE
I never know what JR track to pick, as I like a lot, and I prefer to listen an entire album (for the vibe), but I would recommend the CD Shango the most. You might also know Juno Reactor from The Matrix films, they did quite some of the music for the last 2 films.
Nine Inch Nails -

Definitely check out their newest album, Poetry for the Poisoned. I personally also really love their album after The Black Halo, which is Ghost Opera, it has some really cool songs. These last two albums have been a lot darker, but the band has definitely improved in their musicianship. But i think what I love most about Kamelot is that none of their songs are mundane. They all have some epic story going on haha :) Like Epica and The Black Halo were both Kamelot's interpretation of Goethe's "Faust" (my favorite book). Even though I didn't like Epica as an album, its still cool to hear them retell the Faust tale in their music. But yeah I think that Poetry for the Poisoned is a really good album to pick up if you want to hear some more songs by them. It's their latest and greatest. If you just wanna youtube some songs from that album I can recommend "The Great Pandemonium", "Hunter's Season", and "Necropolis". Hope that helps! :)

Chances are, if I'm listening to music, and it's not Internet radio like Pandora or Last.fm, I'm listening to MaSu. That said, I have been known on occasion to rock out to A Day To Remember and Paramore. Foo Fighters was mentioned before, and while I do like them, I've never felt to urge to actually download any of their stuff; I play it often enough on Rock Band. :P
Also, this:
[...] Austrian Death Machine :D [...]
+1 Interwebz to you, good sir.
-
I wouldn't say their equal to MaSu, but I can also listen to all of Joe Satriani, Firewind, and Edguy.
-
Never could have known I'd write anything in this topic, but:
Blackstar Halo
Yesterday I hit them on Spotify, song: Illuminated... I was stunned by how good it was.
So I listened to whole album. By the way, I noticed THIS: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6SWKnlSrzc&feature=youtu.be&t=16m23s (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6SWKnlSrzc&feature=youtu.be&t=16m23s) My musical memory never fails :)
My favorite songs are: Journey, Alice in Wonderland, Illuminated, In times of every tear... but all the songs are great :)

For, only two band is close to be good as MaSu - Celldweller and Polish band named "Hunter"
