Okay, so this guy, calls himself Buckethead, puts on a mike myers mask from the slasher movie Helloween, and then puts a KFC bucket on his head.
He's a really fucking good guitarist, probably the best i've ever seen.. after petrucci ofcourse. ;)
He's played with Guns N Roses from 2000 till 2004.
Warning though, this buckethead has some seeerious screws loose. On movies hes always talking like a retard and when the crowd cheers him on live shows he cringes.
Ozzy osbourne asked him for his band, this was what he said :
"I tried out that Buckethead guy. I met with him and asked him to work with me but only if he got rid of the fucking bucket. So I came back a bit later and he's wearing this green fucking Martian's-hat thing! I said, 'Look, just be yourself'. He told me his name was Brian, so I said that's what I'd call him. He says, 'No one calls me Brian except my mother'. So I said, 'Pretend I'm your mum then!'. I haven't even got out of the room and I'm already playing fucking mind games with the guy. What happens if one day he's gone and there's a note saying, 'I've been beamed up'? Don't get me wrong, he's a great player. He plays like a motherfucker!"
Anyway, here's a vid of him with the guns n roses tour.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ANSQcqYza7M
Here's a instructional vid with a bit from the SID, he plays this so weirdly, but it sounds just like it !
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v4ZjPYtcMOA
Its a bit freaky though.
-
Seen him the other day, accidentally discovered a video of him, thought nothing of it.. but damn this guy is amazing.

"Buckethead (born Brian Carroll)"
Apparently, this is him unmasked (http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a15/harmony91/bucket-unmasked.jpg)

Wearing a bucket on your head does not increase your chances of clearing this song, or maybe it will.

I've only cleared it on normal so far.
But here's some fool doing it on expert.

What the hell is that button he presses on his guitar?
-
The one that starts the prerecorded tape he has in his guitar? Or just a very awesome button.

You obviously didnt watch the videos. :P
It's a very awesome button. It cuts off the pickups or something..
EDIT: AHHHHH. It cuts off the signal to the amp.
-
I think it changes the signal from clean to disortion.

I think it changes the signal from clean to disortion.
Possibly, but I got a similar effect by poking the cable in and out of the amp plug. Hmm.
-
Hahah ;D
-
I actually seen Buckethead live when he was playing with GnR. They were fucking awful but the dude *can* play guitar.
heh heh.
Brian...
-
That little button acts as a killswitch. It does indeed just cut the sound from the guitar when pressed. Tom morello used one, and I think Matt Bellamy (muse) has one in at least 1 of his guitars. Google "killswitch" or something to learn more.
-
he's listed on the top ten guitarists of all time for a reason. He's just Mentally insane. ;)

I got a perfect on normal and did very well on hard. Haven't tried to touch it on expert.
Buckethead is awesome, I'm a fan. Honestly, take what you read with a grain of salt. Take what you see with a grain of salt. The man is intelligent and is just having a good time. I think thats his thing, acting nuts. Read his story on his website and you'll get a good laugh. Regardless if you take him seriously or not (I personally don't think hes nuts and just puts on a show because it makes the whole experience more fun) hes a brilliant guitar player.
I can't recall the name of the album, but he has a solo album that is almost impossible to get now. I have a copy of it and I must say its an AWESOME album.
It tells a story of robots attacking Buckethead land. All the robots have names and short stories behind them. Theres some talking and other ways he tells the whole story throughout the album. Actual songs inbetween "scenes" and whatnot. All the retro/future effects, like robots fighting, and told through guitar sounds. Its really just brilliant.
Great listen. :)
If you can find a way to get ahold of it, do it. :)

I am of the opinion that Guitar Hero II is a great advertising device...just heard of BucketHeda through one of the unlockable songs. I like the funky electronic soundiness of the it...I shall investigate further, after searching him on Google the other day and getting totally and utterly terrified.

It really is a great advert! I played Jordan (on Medium (Hard was too... hard :-\) on my friend's Guitar Hero and thought, hang on, I saw that in Falllout's lastfm sig (yes, I have actually taken notice of your sig...). Then I remembered there was a thread on the forum too and, lo and behold, I am here.
-
heh, I knew almost all of the real bands (as in not the ones made up of Harmonix members) whith the exception of a few (such as Dick Dale, and suicidal tendancies).
It did, however, do a great job of putting those songs and bands predominately in my mind. I attempted to learn how to play many of these songs.
-
Edit2: wow, this song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJud5kqFEDU&NR) is so beautiful <3
The beginning of that song reminds me of Animal Crossing.
Buckethead is indeed awesome. And his collaborations (Serj Tankian of SOAD, yes please) are just as awesome. I remember watching him play with GnR at the MTV music video awards a loooong time ago and saying 1.) "What the fuck happened to GnR?" and 2.) "Who's the dude with the Bucket?!" My friend invited me to see him in town a couple of months ago, but I got the message on my celly too late. ._. He said it was awesome.
If you can find it, listen to his cover of the theme from the Haunted Mansion ride in Disney World. It's nuts. And somewhere there's a video of him playing the Star Wars theme, and a pirate shanty on his guitar. Same concert as the video you posted earlier of him soloing at the GnR concert.
Not to throw off the conversation too much, but Fallout, if you like the pretty acoustic stuff, I suggest you search for Zakk Wylde's acoustic stuff. For someone wo looks like Captain Caveman, he writes amazing ballads. And he's a great blues player. And he sings at the same time! If the southern US can do something right, it's make really pretty ballads. ;)
New song, "Spoke in the Wheel," (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m7RsfZPwAis)played at a local radio station. ;D Probably my favorite.
Old song, "Dead as Yesterday," (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-HG-nKIXMis) from some kind of Japanese video. I <3 twelve string guitars.
Old song, "Machinegun Man," (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6OOrWqIzgxU) played on the old Headbangers' Ball on MTV. A little more upbeat (still sad/bittersweet lyrics, though).
There needs to be some kind of guitar players fantasy camp to be able to get instructed by these guys. ._.

Yeah, I have a recording of that :D
Thanks for all the suggestions Harvey, he's damn good at acoustic - shame he cant sing for shit though ;)
np: Buckethead - We Are One "Buckethead & Friends - Enter The Chicken"
DO YOU KNOWWWW? THAT WE ARE OOOOOOONE!
-
The song 'Big Sur Moon' is really awesome!
-
Yeah, I've been listening to Buckethead for some years now, brilliant. I used to think it was Paul Gibson dressed up.
-
Buckethead : What The Fuck ?! Indeed...
Although I can say that he's anything but bad at playing guitar (Jordan, and that Graveyard...something) it's kinda bad that he actually turned down band opportunities just to keep his "Bucket" or whatever he's trying to pull :<
Then again, I look at Buckethead play and say wow, but then I see Michael Angelo Batio... :o
-
Buckethead was ranked higher in the top shredders of all time than batio, i think.
;)
