Free iPods (yep, they really are)
« on: July 28, 2004, 12:35:26 am »
Some of you may wish to check this out:
http://www.penny-arcade.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=69952&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

Basically, it's a relatively quick and simple way to get a free iPod.  Nothing illegal or scammish about it.  The people over on the Penny Arcade forum have created a "conga line" of people referring each other, so hopefully everyone ends up with an iPod in the end :)

I wrote a quick guide that outlines everything you have to do, which I will put below.

Quick and Easy Guide to FreeiPods.com:
--------------------------------------
Note: Do all of this in Internet Explorer. Firefox and Netscape screw parts of it up.  Also, if you want to participate in the conga line, you'll need to sign up for the PA forum.
1. Click on someone's referral link, sign up with your email address (or, if you need another, try spamgourmet.com or dodgeit.com).
2. When asked which offer you choose, select eBay.
3. Create a new account on eBay, from the same window that freeiPods.com sent you to. Use your email address, or the one you created for this.
4. Activate your account in another window of IE, then go back to the freeiPods one. Click the big eBay logo to go to the eBay home.
5. Bid on something with a few days left that will likely go up in price. A new game console or expensive computer part are good choices.
6. Post on the Penny Arcade forum telling your name, who's link you used, and which offer you did (eBay hopefully). PM this info to TheMarshall (topic starter on the PA forum).
7. Check back on the PA forum often, watch for PM's or there's a chance you will be removed from the conga line.

Ah...  By the way, I'm Mecha-Saddam on that forum (the name comes from one of their comics).
And if you need someone to be referred by, well...  I still need a few more :)  My link is here: http://www.freeiPods.com/default.aspx?referer=7369167

Any questions, feel free to ask.  I'll be on AIM often as PieSpam if you just have a quick question.

How does that work???

Is it one of those situations where if so many join then a free iPod goes to the first person, then you need another amount of newcomers for the second person to get one. So the further down the line you are, the less likely you are to get one and you are in fact only serving those at the top of the line?

Or is something else?

When you make an account, 5 people need to join through your link and bid on something with a new eBay account.  Fortunately, it's not too hard to refer multiple people if you use different emails/IPs.  If people do this right, even after you get your iPod you should go back and help a few more people out.  So hopefully everyone will end up getting an iPod.

Thanks, but no thanks. I tend not to trust things like these.

Yeah, it looks like a scam.  But what's there to lose?  Use a fake email address, no need for credit cards and such.  Quite a few people have started receiving iPods from this, so I'm going for it.

...and Bill Gates is sending out free checks if I pass around his email  ;D

There's fortune to make on the web, but whenever pyramid schemes are involved you should be sceptical.

Hey, as MaSu says, don't look so skeptic  ;)
Yes, it may turn out to be a bunch of BS, but it may end up getting people some iPods.  I'll be happy to give a referral or two to anyone that uses my link.  That's the only way a thing like this could work, if people go back and help others that haven't gotten an iPod yet.

Bah, US only.
Hopefully it'll work out for everybody at the PA-forums.
There's always a risk that freeipods will home in on ya and bust a cap in all yo'asses ;)

Thankfully, otherwise I'd be tempted to try it. :P

weeelll.

I would say that all the files from that website would fit onto a 128 mb memory stick, which if it was one of the fairly old ones - would be relatively large (about the size of a highlighter pen) which I reckon I, and even Chompy, could throw very far.
