V for Vendetta - the book, the movie, the mask, the ideal.
« on: September 22, 2012, 12:21:29 am »
Hey all,

Any of you read V for Vendetta and saw the movie?

Since I often experience I'm on the same level with people here (about "stuff"), I hope I can share my thoughts on V for Vendetta here with you.

I love the book. And today I saw the movie for the first time and I think it really sucks. There's nothing of the original story there. And now I'm even more mad at the people protesting wearing a Guy Fawkes mask. What are they thinking, it means something when they wear it? The ideal it's gone, it really upsets me.

Can anyone relate to my feelings here?

Absolutely.

I have to admit I don't know much about V for Vendetta, but it's painfully obvious everyone wearing them 'ironically' is missing the entire point.

Heck, even Anonymous themselves don't really do it anymore. Just the noobs who installed LOIC and think they're uber hackers now.

Are you fucking kidding me? I just watched the movie for the first time about hour ago, what kind of sorcery is this?!

And it was really great, though I didn't really like that idea of a burned man with no eyes. But overall feeling was perfect. Definitely one of my new favourite movies.

EDIT: Oh, I should read the book, yeah?

I'd really encourage you guys to read the book!

You're lucky I guess, having seen the movie first. Now the book can amaze you even more. To me the movie was a disappointment...

Good to hear some of you think the mask is really stupid when used by those protestors.

I've just ordered the book / comics or whatever it is. :)

On the stupidity of people wearing guy fawkes mask. When there were anti ACTA / SOPA etc protests in my country, it was daily routine to encounter dozens of people wearing that mask and ultimately not knowing what it does represent. Half of nation proclaimed, that they belong to anonymous group etc. Some noobish attempts with LOIC and stuff. Pretty much sad and stupid.

Graphic novel seems to the correct wording.

But then again, those words are often used by mediocore comic book writers to pass off their comic book as literature. :p

Ofcourse, V for Vendetta is truly a graphic novel, albeit originally released monthly (IIRC) in Warrior magazine. Oh the years before my time.  :'(

Movies after books are always worse than the book in my experience, at least I have never found a counterexample. :(

Hhmm. I must say movies can sometimes improve upon certain aspects of a book, for instance pace or climax. I think Watchmen nailed the ending, whereas in the book it was a bit off IMO. But overall the book was better.
