Jets'n'Guns
« on: February 11, 2012, 10:10:37 am »
Alright (most threads are YEARS old on this now) I am taking a new stab at Jets'n'Guns (and recording my failures for ze youtubes :D)

Ive tried looking up some things for Jets'n'Guns such as weapon loadouts etc. but following guides really isnt my thing, so some simple suggestions would be nice.

I had the hardest time on level 2 for a while, but managed to beat it, and after changing a ton of loadouts, ships, etc. and general fiddling I managed to get much farther now (im at the...Borg mug type thing)

Using pretty much maxed out Radiator, La Fontaine, Homing Missile, and Auto-track (for those pesky spacemen) and it seems to be working pretty good, but even so much as nicking 1 single enemy ship seems to just be absolutely devastating to mine. Bullets are actually laughable in comparison to the amount of damage walls/buildings/other ships are when they touch you.

Weapon and armor loadouts are not a huge huge issue for me, im just wondering which of the secondary purchases are worth getting early on (I got the Atarix and Carnage TV thing) but with the new ships you get alot of new variations like nano-heal bots and mission/boss meters etc.

Are these very useful or should I just save all my money for amping the damage of weapons and eventually maxing hull integrity?

(also if you want to watch any of my shit-tastic commentaries, my channel is just Chronologix

Subscribed.

Sorry I can't really help you, I played J'n'G a long time ago, and can't really remember. I might fire it up again and play from the start again.

I suggest that you buy and use the time-slowing machine as it makes everything more predictable, and it's extremely useful in boss fights. In some levels I even used to have it on for the whole level.
Upgrading hull integrity is also a good idea, but imo speed (and if you like to use heavy weapons then also upgrade heat sink) is more useful.

For the current ship i am using I couldn't actually find a heat reduction upgrade, but I do have the time slower available, I just didnt look at its price. Does it not have a meter/cooldown/duration? It sounds helpful if it can be used whenever, for as long as you want (although it may make for some very uninteresting videos :P)

Well I have used it non-stop through some levels and alot of bosses so I think there's no cooldown to it. Also, I would rather watch a long video of slowmotion gaming than a video where you die to every tenth enemy.
Because I watched some of your videos, my JNG fingers are now itchy and I shall also start playing JNG. And btw, JNG 2 is being made, and here's a pic from it: http://www.rakeingrass.com/jng2/index.html

JnG 2? In 3D?

HOLY FCUK THIS IS GOING TO ROCK SO HARD

Ok, on topic: stack Radiators. Or Acid Guns. If you feel like being cheap, get the Time Compressor and spam V for unlimited slow motion. It's broken because it has no cooldown unless you keep the V button pressed. It gets boring fairly quickly, though.
The Charge Generator is insanely powerful. Even one of these is great for the upcoming mission after you fly around in a jetpack. Kinda short-range, though, but the jetpack mission is slow-paced, so you should have time to shotgun your way through with that baby.
You can sell Atarix and Carnage TV when there are no boxes in your inventory or human enemies to kill. Every penny counts.
Do not use your mouse to control your ship. In this game colliding with stuff fucks you up big time. You need keyboard for precision.
You so indecisive, man! Make up your mind: full frontal assault or survivability. You can theoretically dodge all the bullets coming your way. You don't really need the versatility and weapon hardpoints that the Crocker provides. Grooman Goblin is smaller, free, and has just enough hardpoints at this point of the game.

Your Let's Play is kinda boring right now. You seem to lack the degree of skill required to play the game. Your failures, coupled with your indecision, make you look bad.

EDIT: oh, and why would you disable in-game sounds? They aren't extremely high-quality, but I don't mind them playing in the background.

I didnt disable the sound, I just use surround sound as my capture so certain channels don't get recorded, and I am assuming pretty much everything except the music is on the same channel and not being registered. And my mouse is my push-to-talk so I have ust been trying to get used to using it as a control method.

About lack of ingame sounds: I see... that's too bad.

Anyway, a correction is needed:
Grooman Goblin is smaller, free, and has just enough hardpoints at this point of the game.
Oh, I said that because I thought that you only got to mission 4. I forgot about what you wrote in the topic and only judged by the amount of progress you've made so far in the videos on YouTube. Getting a Red Baron so early seemed excessive to me.

I love JNG! I hope MaSu makes the music for this new game too :)

I hope so as well. Or at the very least that the music in JnG 2 won't be worse than that from the first game. Though MaSu set the bar pretty damn high.

The developers said in their forum that they would like to have MaSus music in JnG2, but they haven't asked about it yet due to game being still so unfinished.
Also I have gotten somewhat stuck on the virus level after the beer cube, I have always hated that level.

The one with gathering strands of DNA code scattered about in piles of goo, right? I hate it as well. These virii are tough (not sure if as tough as the Beer, though) and the level is so huge. Collision damage really screws you over in that one. There isn't even any bonus for collecting ALL of the DNA strands, which kind of sucks. (Same with no bonus for collecting ALL the secrets, though that is barely related.)

I can't remember... Is the TMiG available at that point? It really is the best ship in the game until you either start the second/third/fourth playthrough on the same profile or get the Hypercopter if you know where to look for it. I think I customarily went for a ship with high survivability, got an upgraded charge generator, then shotgunned my way through while praying for survival... Or just stacked Radiators on the cheapest ship with the highest amount of slots (der WunderWurst? It only had three, right? But the ZZ-Rolls was so much more expensive...) and sprayed the everloving crap out of everything.

I also liked to have the Monkey Maniacs (I think their name was...) in my bomb slot. They really were quite stronk, able to severely weaken the toughest enemies and help punch through those splotches of green goo blocking the way.
