I'm starting off with something pretty obscure. A mecha run and gun game for the SNES called Cybernator.

Cybernator is a game I haven't thought about it a long time. Now I'm thinking about Metal Warriors too... <3 SNES.

I'll toss Stargunner in, a DOS side scrolling shoot 'em up with fantastic music. It's also ball bustingly difficult, as I learned when I went back to it and world 1 handed me my ass on a silver platter on "normal." The good old days indeed.

I just want to link all of it, but I'll settle for the world 2 sector 3 music at the start of this video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-XUTn2OG-M

(full playlist here :D)

I think this is a great thread! +100000 Tom

My first console was the NES and it wasn't Mario, or even Zelda that got me addicted to Video Games or their Soundtracks. Even though I do like them a lot. What started my gamer addiction was: Mega Man. And for some reason I loved Proto Man's theme:

Still do. It took me a while to weed through the remixes. There are some awesome remixes of this, but the original just holds a special place in my heart.

My first love (probably because I'm one of the youngest guys here) was Pokemon Yellow, so I'd definitely say the travelling music on the routes. I'd link to it, but I cannot find a copy on YouTube at the moment.

Though my first gaming experience was Super Mario on NES, the soundtrack from where I get the most nostalgic memorie is from Jazz Jackrabbit 2. I was quite addicted to it and I used to play it over and over again.

And ofc JNGG has to be mentioned   ;)

Great submissions peeps. The nostalgia is through the roof.
The music from Jazz Jackrabbit (2 in particular) is so brilliant.
Stargunner is a game I've not heard of. But all those Apogee games had such a special flavour. Much thanks to the soundtracks.
Tyrian is also a good one.

Throwing in some Final Fantasy here, XIII-2 even.
It's not released in Europe 'til February So I've yet to play it. The soundtrack gives a mixed impression but some of the music is downright incredible.

Holy shit, man. I didn't even remember that game. I used to play Jazz Jackrabbit and the sequel like crazy.

Hmm, let's see. One game per post? Hot damn, you guys better keep the responses coming or I'll feel an urge to double-, triple-, hell, quintuple-post or something. Oh well, let's begin with Okami. The OST has like 5 CDs, so you'll excuse me if I post a whole bunch of links.

Reset
The Sun Rises
Shinshuu Plains <- That, ladies and gentlemen, is music for walking around. That's right, fetch quests are downright epic in this game.
Shachimaru's Theme
Okikurmi's Theme
Yamata no Orochi's Extermination
At Last the Time Has Come
Northern Country Kamui

Uh, yeah, that's like half an hour of music. I think I'm done for now.

I can't stand the whistles in that song. Too high pitched.

I'm afraid I have to agree. My ears start to hurt after a couple of notes.

Second post, second game: Deus Ex.
Main Title
UNATCO Theme
Synapse

The last one is also my ringtone. It owns.

Well, in my case, I'd probably go back to the C64. Lots of good stuff, but I think if I have to choose one game to post, it will be one of the Last Ninja games. For example The Wastelands from LN 1.

Hey, I was gonna post that. >w<
Truly astonishing soundtrack. And the fucking scale of it. :o

That's pretty badass. C64 was before my era, so I've missed out on most of it. More SID recommendations are very welcome.

Now, this thread cannot go on without a dose of Touhou.
I'm going with Perfect Cherry Blossom. Can't not get goosebumps.

Okami is beautiful all around. The art direction is phenomenal.

Frozen Synapse has pretty good music as well:
Focus
Triumph

Around the same time as the first Jazz Jackrabbit game, Epic Megagames also released what may well be the greatest fighting game ever on the PC: One Must Fall 2097. Sadly, the developers bit over a bit more than they could chew with the sequel, and it didn't really live up to its predecessor after 7 years in development. The music is still pretty good, though.

That's pretty badass. C64 was before my era, so I've missed out on most of it. More SID recommendations are very welcome.
Not so much a specific music recommendation, but for anyone who doesn't already have it I'd recommend getting the High Voltage Sid Collection, as it contains a vast amount of SID music. The .sid files can be played with a SID player like for example SIDTool.

Now, this thread cannot go on without a dose of Touhou.

I've never actually played any of the Touhou games, though I've considered trying to get into it, in part because of the music. Wouldn't really know where to start, though :P
