Sorta old new. Ye olde forumites close to the band have been hearing snippets of new songs for a few months now, but I don't think they've announced it on anywhere as big as Facebook.

'Working on a new album' could mean anything. I know about bands who start writing songs during their tour, when having just released a CD. That's working on a new album too.  :P

I'd like to hear some more solid news. Like: "We recorded demos for 5 songs." or "The album is going to be about..." or "It's nothing like our last one." or whatever. Anything!  :D

Currently, "working on the album" for me means that I've been sitting evenings and nights blocking out songs (basically just making music by my computer) and producing ideas. First and foremost I've lifted some ideas we already have laying about to current sound standard. But there is some new stuff being worked on too.

We have a folder that currently contains 5 demo tracks, and another folder with something like 20 could-be-song-could-be-shit ideas, and a folder with everything-we've-ever-not-released-but-still-have-hopes-for with a lot more stuff in it.

But my progress bar for the album is solely based on that one folder with 5 tracks in it. When we have polished some old ideas (tracks that would have been on "A View..." if we'd had more time or whatever, I'm thinking that folder will be something like 8-9 songs, and then we'll continue to work on completely new ideas. In the end we'll pick 10-15 songs and scrap/delay/postpone/ignore 5-10 (which may then be picked up as candidates for the album after that)...

We've borrowed the Neumann mic from Bodom again, the one we've used on Overworld and A View... (but not on "Paparazzi", and I think it shows, vocals just don't sound as good), so Gordon has been setting up our new studio location (we now have our recording studio in the same place as we rehearse, which is different from before).

But in short, we're in the song writing/producing stage, which will later fuse with the final-take-recording phase, followed by the post-production phase. For a september-october release, we should aim to be done with the majority of the work before the end of summer.

Hope this gives you guys some insight into our process. :)

Pure win! This just seriously made my day. I've been wanting some new MaSu news for , forever! Said this in the other thread BUT: Do you think that any scrap/B-side songs will be released via forum? Or art and such? I'm just excited! I also thought of this, some in studio streaming footage or vlog would be freaking awesome, I'd watch!

Horray information! Omnomnom

"everything-we've-ever-not-released-but-still-have-hopes-for" sounds intriguing. I hope that we get to hear them all some day :)

Believing in a zombieman from outer space who is his own father is pretty funny, but that's not what MaSu is about //yas

Thanks for the info Robert! I'm very happy to know how the process works. Now I (and hopefully everybody!) can cool down a bit and wait patiently.  ::)

Though now I'm looking forward to a new record / single / teaser / whatever even moooaaaar.

I have this idea to "crowdsource" the album art this time... But I don't know whether or not it is a good idea.

Make it like an artwork made by many many people (though curated/fused+edited by me)...

Thoughts? :)

Yeah, that sounds like it's got potential for some really cool stuff.

And you can just scrap the idea if everything you get from the community is tired memes and pictures of dicks.

Although enough pictures of dicks can be used as a mosaic to form a trinity symbol =P
