Game music moments
« on: October 17, 2011, 07:53:15 pm »
The fail feeble response I got from Twitter has saddened me, but I figure you guys are more uber than those jerks.

I've been asked to write a blogpost for a blog about storytelling and transmedia; the topic being game soundtracks and storytelling. So as part of it, I want to hear about people's "OMFG" moments in games where the music has been the main part of the OMG factor or a major part of it. I can't find any decent vids of mine, but it's the moment in the boss fight at the end of Area 4 in Rez when the guitar kicks in and you know shit is getting real.

..than those jerks? Those people who actually actively want to follow you? Way to alienate people, bub ;)
Oi, is this when I get a huge sig-image, start whining about "moar sid" and make nonsensical arguments to no good?

1:30 - but watch the entire video, its awesome

1. My no.1 game. Most awesome graphic style, story and shit.
2. Really epic scene, that will always bring tears to my eyes.
3. Play that game and enjoy that masterpiece of art.

I listen to that part everytime I need some kind of psychical help.

starts at 2:00 most sad videogame-scene - song starts at 2:26. Gives me the shivers every time :(

starts at 2:40 ~ not as emotional as the scene in VII, but still...

Hell yeah! That must've been the first real metal-score on the SNES... and the whole Score was Awpic (to fuse aAwesome and epic into one word). In those days i let the game run on TV and just listened to the music for hours :D
=> the Theme of the last boss brings this to the edge: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=er0cGN8cO6w

And the last one for now has a "WTF"-Moment from the other side..
First thing I heard of "Tunnel B1" was the Score and it was Fan-f*cking-tastic. Intro
But when i actually got to play the game... it was the worst bullshit I'd ever seen so far. I ripped the Soundtrack from the CD and threw the game away... that was kind of a redemption...
Chaos! Panic! Desaster! (my work here is done ~ for pony)

I love how the music for her death scene continues through the boss fight, really changes the mood of that battle. There's no "fuck yeah let's kick ass" music, just the continuation of grief that makes you want to deal with the boss so you can get on with more important things.

The first moment that comes to mind is from Dragon Age: Origins.
In the last segment of the game you, the hero of the day, run forth towards the final battle through an alley formed of cheering soldiers, while the game's fantastic main theme really swells up. Bloody epic.

As much as I have a raging girl boner for Dragon Age: Origins, I've never really noticed the music. Still, any excuse for another playthrough :D

Also, I maked a questionnaire if anyone has a few spare moments: http://tinyurl.com/gamemusicsurvey

Oh, yeah, I really liked that moment when you were awaiting the reinforcements with 'Escaping the Krut' as the bgm.

At this point, very early in the game, I realised I was in for an awesome experience.

Uses the best two pieces in the ACII soundtrack too, Venice Rooftops and Earth.
