Machinae Supremacy 2011 - interview, documentary, live
« on: September 11, 2011, 11:21:02 pm »
Hey guys!

So, here's my long-awaited video. Now you can download it, show to your friends, share, re-upload and so on. Full version in both English and Russian will be always lying here:

ftp://ftp.valet2.com/masu

If you're in Russia, you may use Russian's most popular torrent-tracker:

http://rutracker.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3726160

Now it's in Full HD (1920x1080), with FOUR audio-tracks:

Original (English), stereo
Russian, overdubbed, stereo (played by default)
Specially mixed in 5.1, original (English)
5.1 Russian, overdubbed

plus Russian subtitles

The size is huge, but there's also 1,5 GB 720p version with only two English tracks.

The duration is 30 minutes, and it consists of interview with the band filmed right before their iconic performance on Assembly, and two live tracks: Rocket Dragon filmed by me and Marko in Tampere (one day before Asselmbly) and Through The Looking Glass filmed with Assembly TV crew (conducted by Garo). Garo has sent me the video files so I made my own edit of the song.

There are three reasons why I made all this:

- I wanted to shoot the band's live performance because there were no nice videos of them. But my first attempt was unsuccessful, and the band disagreed about the filming, because I was just "some guy". But after meeting them twice in 2010 and showing some of my works they agreed.
- I've seen one interview with Gordon and Dezo and I didn't like the way it was made (yeah, the one you may find on youtube). I knew I could do it much better.
- Last year I met Purple Motion (Jonne Valtonen) and made a documentary/interview about him, later uploaded it on youtube, and one guy asked whether I gonna make some more videos "where are they now?". So I realized that someone's interested in that too.

The production took two weeks to make video for Russian demoscene-party Chaos Constructions, and a few days to re-edit it a bit and mix to 5.1.

At first I had an idea to re-record my own voice because it was recorded not properly (with lots of noises), and I messed up with some words, so it's probably hard to understand my accent. But later I decided to leave as it is.

So hope you like it. If not, I'll be happy to get comments which would help to improve my future works... By the way, now I'm working on the interview with Bjorn Lynne who is mostly known as composer / sound guy in the Worms series. I met him is his town Stavern in Norway right after MaSu.

Credits:

All production is mine except:
additional camera in Rocket Dragon - Marko Patokallio
video footage (7 of 10 used cameras) on Assembly - Assembly TV crew
Assembly video partially edited by Juho Makinen
Assembly sound re-edited by Robert himself (only stereo-version)
chiptune tracks composed by Lenich
Russian voice-over by Eugeny Dememtiev ("overdubber" of tons anime movies in Russia)

Any technical questions? Will be glad to answer and explain.

P.S. Kiuru, was nice to meet you!

Awesome man :)

Could someone out there make a torrent for us non-russians? :)

Is this the same as the one in the other topic? What's the difference, besides quality? http://forum.machinaesupremacy.com/index.php/topic,7386.0.html

Thanks a lot to you and thanks to the band for making that interview :) it was interesting!
We're open to such things, we've even talked many times about doing it with Inja, but in a way that's redundant because we can already get Erica

Is there any chance of uploading this file elsewhere? Pirate Bay or like? I failed to download it from ftp for the 6th time because of the "source file couldn't be read" or something error which occurs after several hours of downloading. Which takes time, sucking over 5GB monster file with 30KB/s.

Try using some sort of download manager, ie. FlashGet.

BTW. I can do Polish subtitles, if you provide me with English ones.

I even have it installed, but I use it so rarely I forgot about it. But now the ftp demands username and password, so I'll have to wait anyway.

Amdor, give me your ip-address (don't write here - PM instead). My server could have blocked you. There shouldn't be any passwords to connect to me.

And about the speed - I think it's the overall problem for Russia. You may use some speedtest service to know which is normal transfer speed to Saint-Petersburg. Theoretically I have 1,5 megabytes/second speed, but I see this speed only between connections within the city.

Why do everyone suddenly insist on using the Matroska format? Nothing but problems, lots and lots of problems

What?
I have no problems with Matroska. Yes, you need to install a codec pack, but if you don't have one of those anyway, you probably shouldn't comment on the quality of a video codec.

Matroska is the container, and H.264 AVC is the codec.

Try to update your codecs and use a different player. Sometimes VLC is buggy on my computer while playing my own AVC's, and Media Player Classic works fine.

Try to update your codecs and use a different player. Sometimes VLC is buggy on my computer while playing my own AVC's, and Media Player Classic works fine.

I use WMP11 because I don't like the grey basic-looking design of VLC. Normally I wouldn't, but my K-Lite codec plays anything I want it to, so I have no reason for VLC.
But also, to play some H.264 videos, you sometimes need a codec pack.
