You are mistaken, the DIY-part is part of what makes you so extremely cool :D
Also, it inspires a lot of people (including me). You inspired me to even try to make my own music, and now it actually sounds half decent thanks to you :)

Same here! :)

Yeah, thirded.

I don't know if that means we should, or if it just proves my point even more. :)

Seriously, though... I'll consider how to somehow make it interesting, and if I can, we'll put something together. Now that Jonne and I live in different cities it might actually be a bit more interesting as the journey itself can be incorporated.

... -let's marinate in my mind- ...

However, it's worth mentioning that editing video takes frikkin forever. :) It might get down-prioritized.

Sweet :D

It could be made in such a way that a release of the video would coincide with the release of a new album /song /soundtrack, and that we get to see parts of the production and rehersal of the new material and at the same time FINALLY see your studio ;)

I remember an old video of Rammstein in the studio from a documentary they did, where they filmed the recording of some guitars and vocals that didnt appear on an album until several years later. I really liked that video, it seemed like they really enjoyed beeing in the studio, and I bet you guys do too :)

I dunno, just brainstorming here :)

It counts ;) But they have a rehersal studio right? I saw some pictures of it a few years ago. I also saw some pictures of a room with a large mixing table and I think jonne or someone was lying on the floor :P

No but they could record a short video when they rehearse and fool around and maybe show their "studio" or whatever a bit too :) It would be fun to see :D

I loved the write-up you did back in 2006 on how you recorded Redeemer.
I'm personally not much into studio gear porn. But some neat DIY production tips, free software and such always sparks my imagination. ^v^

You should make video about recording Gravity run ost :)

I'd say we use three relevant pieces of hardware right now, apart from our instruments.

1. Neumann TLM 103 microphone (800 or so euro microphone, used on Overworld and A View...)
2. Preamp (LineAudio on Overworld, UA-710 on A View...)
3. ElevenRack (first use on Gravity Run OST)
(4. Computer)

About 3: On the last three albums + Jets'n'Guns, we've used Line6 GuitarPort for the guitars exclusively. It's pretty cheap and while it does have some issues with bad frequencies and such, it has done the job for us up until now (we're not about to be held back by limiting gear - we learn to work with and around those limitations). The ElevenRack is what we'll be using from now on. This year we've bought 4 ElevenRacks, so we're pretty hardcore about these machines (we used them live on the Ugly World tour and Assembly 2011, too), and as far as I am concerned, they blows the Line6 stuff away. Expect some degree of guitar sound enhancement for future releases.

About 4: We've used and still use PCs for a lot of the recording process, but since A View... we also use Macs. We use Nuendo on PC, but it's virtually the same as Cubase when it comes to plain music production. On Mac, we use Logic Pro. We've tried Pro Tools but it doesn't feel quite as "pro" as it claims to be.

We have a Presonus soundcard which we've used to record vocals with (it matters what you use because the A/D-converters in soundcards vary quite a lot) but I suspect we will be able to make due with only ElevenRack now (it is also a soundcard, apart from a guitar amp/fx/rig emulator).

...

If only AVID could endorse Machinae Supremacy so we could get some free gear or money for all the praise I'm sending their way. Ah well. :) Know that I mean what I say, since they won't give us the time of day yet we still buy their fucking stuff. :)

It DOES have a few minor bugs though, come to think of it ... :)

Thanks for answers :)

600 € on preamp, 800 € mike, thats crazy ! :D I own m-audio delta 66 soundcard, but it lacks preamps, so I'm going to buy cheap ass m-audio dmp3 preamp or something like that. (then will come octane)

I'm pretty impressed about using guitarport, people tend to spend so much money on amps and/or expensive variations of guitarport etc. and they still kinda suck (or they dont like their sound).

I still try to get the right sound just from the free ampsims.

Eleven rack, have you tried axeFX ? or is it too pricey for band? (yeah, 4x 1600 € for axeFX2 isnt fun)
