BLUR game
« on: June 11, 2010, 01:38:08 am »
anyone play this game yet? At first it looked like a fubar racing game, but watching a few vids and such , it turns out this game is pretty much Mario Kart, with real(er) vehicles on a real(er) track.

But the powerups they ahve are almost exactly the same, they have one that drops mines (banana peal in MK), one that targets the next vehicle ahead of you (Red Shell), one that shoots at the first place person (Blue shell), one that fires 3 shots straight ahead (similar to Green Shell), a Shield (similar to the rotation shells) and one that pushes people away from you (not sure if thats in MK though)

All in all, it actually seems like it may be a pretty fun arcade style racer for parties or online play.

I played the beta on the 360. It was pretty mediocre. I'm not a huge fan of racers, though, so maybe other people will enjoy it.
That's the problem with heroes, really. Their only purpose in life is to thwart others. They make no plans, develop no strategies. They react instead of act. Without villains, heroes would stagnate. Without heroes, villains would be running the world. Heroes have morals. Villains have work ethic.

yeah i also played the beta, and while it had some good moments it hardly blew me away. i was kinda disappointed that the driving mechanics were so hugely dumbed down compared to project gotham racing.

Aye! PGR2 is one of my fav racers ever. Getting Platina on all the challenges was so terribly hard. With PGR3 and PGR4 everything got dumbed down more and more, made more easy, made even more arcade. BLUR is just the next step, including WEAPONS. Meh.  :-\

The game is designed as an arcade racer, not a simulator, of course you should not being looking for those aspects in this game. Just like playing Mario Kart and going "hmm these karts don;t handle like real go-karts! i'm disappointed!" :p

It is designed as an arcade racer, simple and easy to get into

I know that, but the game was develoepd by the same team that did the awesome Project Gotham Racing serieus. I would love to see a new part in that series. On the other hand, the devs now had something fresh to do.

you say that, but the reason mario kart is so much better than any other kart game is because they absolutely nailed the controls. sure, it's easy to pick up, but it takes time to master powersliding.

with their pedigree, i thought the developers of blur had a good opportunity to merge styles and create something really unique, but unfortunately it just feels like another mario kart clone with a different gimmick.

It's fun for a few hours but gets repetitive real easy.. also the fact that there is pretty much no soundtrack in game, and without a soundtrack which actually is memorable the whole feeling is gone. I do like the concept of the fans but they could have made it much more involved in the visual aspect such as cheering you on, sabotaging other drivers etc.

EDIT : i figured out how to enable music, in audio options go to "Enable licensed music"

The horrible nature of this sound track is rivaled only by Justin Bieber, Cilion Dion, Bryan Adams and Green Day. It is effectively in the Mediocre Music Hall of Fame.

In other words: Do yourself a favor and run some music in the background.
