Mainstream pop covers by metal bands
« on: December 12, 2009, 01:13:54 pm »
I've been collecting these for a while, since they make for great additions to party CDs/playlists for parties where not everyone is a metalhead (that is, just about every normal party).
What I'm looking for is covers of big radio hits and pop classics. So far I know only two bands that do these fairly often (read that as "more than once") and well, Edguy/Avantasia and MaSu.
Let's work together and catch 'em all!

So far I know of:
MaSu - I turn to you (Mel C)
MaSu - Gimme more (Britney)
MaSU - Sidstyler (Boomfunk MCs)
Edguy - Hymn (Ultravox)
Avantasia - Lay all your love on me (ABBA)
Avantasia - Dancing with tears in my eyes (Ultravox)

The ones I can think of:
Blind Guardian did Surfin' USA (Beach Boys);
Graveworm - I need a hero (Bonnie Tyler)
In Flames (and I think Disturbed, too) - Land of Confusion (Genesis)
Sonic Syndicate - All about us (t.A.T.u.)

Ten Masked Men - basically everything
We're open to such things, we've even talked many times about doing it with Inja, but in a way that's redundant because we can already get Erica

Children of Bodom have a few, if I can remember right.

I know they did "Oops I Did It Again" by Britney Spears.

They also covered "Somebody Put Something in My Drink" by the Ramones.
That's the problem with heroes, really. Their only purpose in life is to thwart others. They make no plans, develop no strategies. They react instead of act. Without villains, heroes would stagnate. Without heroes, villains would be running the world. Heroes have morals. Villains have work ethic.

The funny thing is, I already had about half of all the tracks you've mentioned so far, but didn't know of it. That's what you get for having 16000+ mp3s I guess.

Edit: found more: Gamma Ray - It's a Sin. Also, a band called Celestial Decay had the release party yesterday for their first album in the common room in my house, which I manage. They had a good cover of Rhianna's Unfaithful on their album.

Graveworm - Message In A Bottle (The Police)
Graveworm - Losing My Religion (REM)
Deadlock - Temple of Love (Sisters of Mercy)
Cradle of Filth - No Time To Cry (Sisters of Mercy)
Dope - You Spin Me Round (Dead or Alive)
Drowning Pool - Rebel Yell (Billy Idol)
The Black Dahlia Murder - Paint it Black (Rolling Stones)
In Flames - Everything Counts (Depeche Mode)
Lacuna Coil - Enjoy the Silence (Depeche Mode)
Knorkator - Ma Baker (Boney M)
Raunchy - Somebody's Watching Me (Rockwell)
Sonata Arctica - Out in the Fields (Gary Moore)
Alestorm covered the Pirates of the Caribbean theme in "No Quarter" :)
and if you call it "Pop", both Die Apokalyptischen Reiter and Children of Bodom covered "Ghostriders in the Sky".

Knorkator - Ma Baker (Boney M)
Reminded me, Excrementory Grindfuckers thing is parodying Pop songs in a style something akin to grindcore. They have tons of covers, but here are a few of the top of my head
No limit - 2 unlimited
99 luftballons - Nena
Nur Geträumt - Blümchen
And there's tons more but I just woke up and am very tired.
