Soloing?
« on: May 06, 2009, 01:26:03 am »
Hi  :).

I've been searching a lot on this but i can't find out.

Is there a preferred scale that MaSu use when doing guitar soloes? It just sounds different than just usual pentatonic. Am I wrong on this?

Hope you can answer this :D

Hey there, welcome! :)

I'm pretty shure Jonne does'nt put these kinda boundaries on himself thinking in scales.
There is no special super awsome MaSu-scale. They just make up cool melodies.
Now I'm no bandmember XD, but I'm pretty shure of this  ;).

If ya wanna know more about MaSu soloing and like tabs you could check out the tabs section.
Also... I belive that Jonne is inspired by Marty Friedman. And he has made a bunch of guitar lesson videos that you might wanna take a look at.

Yeah I kinda thought that they don't like to bound themselves, but I was thinking more widely (Ie: blues/major/..). Anyways, I guess he is into exotic scales since Marty Friedman is too :).

But what do you mean, has Jonne made a bunch of lessons too :O!?
And also what kind of influences does MaSu have?

I think he actually posted here once or so ;)
We're open to such things, we've even talked many times about doing it with Inja, but in a way that's redundant because we can already get Erica
:o brown chicken brown cow :o

Jonne got 0 posts.
He lurks the forums tho... just waiting for a chance to strike =P

I think the only guy in MaSu that's a scale-ghey is me.
As Jonne said to me once when I did some random solo on a guitar: "I can play like that but it sounds cooler when played like this *does solid awesome Jonne style solo*"

Jonne has a unique style of thought when making guitar harmonics but it isn't just that, he has a style of making the hard things sound easy.

Can you clearify this?

I just wish i knew what goes through his head when he soloes :)

Is that he just knows exactly where every note is on the scale+guitar and just plays an octave instead or what?
Also, what scales do you stick to?

We don't stick to scales. That's the end of it.
Jonne will hold some guitar clinic's for Jackson sometime, don't ask when because no one knows.
