SID patch question
« on: April 13, 2009, 01:01:42 pm »
Hey everyone, i love MaSu etc
I just recently bought quadraSID (read: ACTUALLY bought) and I'm not really the type of person that is satisfied with presets, so I've been making my own patches and stuff for it, but I've run into a little snag, i REALLY like the little chippy arp sound that MaSu use on a hell of a lot of their songs. The sound I'm looking for is like the one at the start of Megascorcher
I can't figure out if it's a wavetable or an arpeggio

I've got things that sound similar but I'm not really satisfied with them and I realise I'm not using a real sid station but if anyone (hopefully a band member  ;D) could help out with some preset settings or tips I would greatly appreciate it!

Start of Megascorcher sounds like a smooth saw played insanely fast :P
But if one day we meet together while I'm drunk, I promise you to draw a big group sex picture including a lot of forumites. :D

Thanks for the replies guys, I'll give him a PM, didn't know if I was allowed to lol
I kinda think it's an arpeggio with a wavetable as well, but stuffed if I know what they did with it.

Hi and wellcome m8!

I think that the easiest way to get some sort of input on the quadraSID is to ask Robert (Gaz).
We don't use quadraSID that much tho so I don't know how much help you can get from him but he is a studio wiz so asking could not hurt anyways.

Remember to keep it l33t  ;D

Thanks! I've already PM'd Gordon, would it be better for me to PM Robert or just have him read the PM I already wrote? (I'm entirely new to this forum lol etc)

I figured you guys wouldn't use quadraSID that much, but i can't afford the real thing so I was hoping on getting some tips on making a similar sound to what you guys use. Tutorials for quadraSID are indeed a bitch to find.

peace

I don't think Robert would mind if you sent him a PM to ask about it ;)

Seems like you've startet some kind of QuadraSID movement XD.

I'm also interested in how it works.
The interface is just so different from other plugins.

I've used it before, year ago now, it's pretty simple once you actually read through the documentation :P

hehe well with all these people trying out quadraSID we should be able to make some awesome presets  ;D

It's surprisingly easy to use, although I'm still learning and I'm relatively new to creating SID sounds, all the numbers look frightening when you first start it, but if you actually read the manual it all makes sense.
It also has some nifty presets, I also bought the Rob Hubbard soundbank and for some reason I don't actually like it as much as the default soundbank

The demo is free and just lasts 15 minutes per session I believe, you just restart the host. Although I suppose most people hack it these days...

Edit: As I have no idea what programming sounds on a sidstation is like..... what is it like? What parameters do you use? I just wanna know if quadraSID uses the same ones.
Eg: pulsewidth, arp speed, glide speed, wavetables etc

SIDstations are really hard to come across these days.

But there is hardSID
http://www.hardsid.com/

Looking good as far as I can tell. Though I have yet to try it out.
