The Pirate Bay on Trial
« on: February 16, 2009, 06:32:32 am »
Obviously, this trial will not be resolved in years... But this pseudo-political trial is nothing short of a farse, and I just want to say for the record that we, as a band, as consumers and as musicians, support The Pirate Bay, and the service they provide to the people.

It is undemocratic to allow coporate minority interests to attack an idea that the people have long since chosen to embrace.

Isn't The Pirate Bay server where all the torrents are held in Sweden where this sort of thing is decriminalised anyway?

Down with corporate extortionists and up with corporate fairness hear hear.
But if one day we meet together while I'm drunk, I promise you to draw a big group sex picture including a lot of forumites. :D

Decriminalized? Dude, they're well on their way to making our lovely country the setting for the next version of 1984. ;P

I, as the CEO of the Internets & a Retarded-Nazi-Pope also support The Pirate Bay and their ideas.

To hear the "torrent proof" part of the trial was funny as hell.
The prosecution said something like the police's tech's said it was from tpb and showed a screenshot of something not related at all to tpb.
After that TiAMO said, please let me explain how a torrent file works so that you can be given a chance to see you own evidence lacing (something similar).
It was all good fun =)

I think it's insane that they've chosen a prosecutor with no technical capabilities at all. In this case, it would have been much smarter to choose a prosecutor with somewhat less experience with criminal cases and more tech knowledge.

Could they come back at the pirates again with a tech savvy prosecutor? I mean, after this trial ends.

Nothing will be decided in this trial. No matter the outcome, the losing side will most likely appeal to the next court tier. This won't be over until we have a supreme court ruling.

Aside from the Piraty Bay trial going on or whatever problems they face, downloading only helps artist if you ask me. I do think ik troubles the record companies, as they are losing money, BUT:

- Music is CULTURE: and it sucks to have to pay for culture, for ideas, for the art somebody makes. Spreading your ideas or having contact with people should be free. Now, one tiny little problem. Bands sometimes DO want to make a living. It's such an intriguing discussion.
- Downloading gives me the chance to come in touch with a lot of new music, music that I would never have bought in the shop ('cause I don't know it). If I like the music, I might buy it. If I don't, I'll probably go see the band live somewhere or buy merchandise. Example: Machinae Supremacy. Apart from that, it's all a great oppertunity for a band to reach a more wider audience. Would MaSu be known in the US if they only had a myspace with two songs on it and released their music ONLY on CD? DOn't think so!

That's just what I wanted to share with you all.  :D

Thing is, they don't.
There is no proof what-so-ever that the music-sale has dropped, just the opposite, they have increased.
Why the big companies are whining, is because smaller record-labels have because of the internet been able to get sales and deals that they wouldn't if it weren't for internet. And since smaller records get sales, the big ones loses some.
You see. :]

That might very well be possible! It's supporting for a bit what I wrote down, it's just the thing I'm not sure of. To have some actual research results would be fine too, haha.
