My kitten isn't feeling well
« on: December 20, 2008, 03:26:04 am »
Hey, my kitten started being real tired suddenly and it seems he's in great pain. He still eats and drinks and has a normal wet nose. He now has walking difficulties, getting up stairs, jumping of small objects, such as shoeboxes, just real small stuff.

He often just lies on the floor on his stomach, not sideways but straight, with his head down and just looking foward.
We already took him to the vet where he got a shot and it seemed to lessen the pain, then he was happy and purring and such.
We currently treat him with antibiotics, but i have no idea what i further can do to help the little guy out.

Does anyone recognize this?

Don't know much about cats but i looked on the net, this appears in dogs too. this is only relating to the wet nose thing,

as for the tiredness, does he have a lose of appettite? (sp) I would google his symptons and i gurantee somebody else will have addressed it.  It's a start.

EDIT: haha i forgot to post the link, im stoopid.

http://www.catcustomer.com/symptoms/ Found a better link.

Also original not as good link: http://vetmedicine.about.com/od/diseasesandconditions/f/FAQ_drynose.htm

Yeah, i've googled and asked around on several forms, its just fucking frustrating to see him like this.
A mildly wet nose is healthy, its the dry nose you should heed for.

Anyway, the hind legs are failing more and more, and you can clearly see he's in pain, although he tries to purr when you pet him, im not sure if he likes it.

It could be an ear infection, my friends cat lost her balance big time with a really bad ear infection, shes ok now just balance is a bit fucked, still a happy chappy though.

Or a mini stroke, though, probably not a mini stroke. I just place that because my old dog had that happen to him.

Do his gums look healthy? Our last puppy got really tired because of anemia, and it made his gums white.

The vet would've told you, though, so I don't think it's that. Also, the puppy wasn't in pain, so it's nothing like your kitten. But it's all I have.
Just close your eyes and keep your mind wide open.

I have indeed checked the gums, and i guess they're little pale. I have NO idea how they're supposed to look like though!

This kitten is healthy:

With anemia, the gums are practically white. It's a lack of red blood cells.

You don't want your kitten to have anemia.
Just close your eyes and keep your mind wide open.

The wall of his mouth on the other side of that photo should be good enough indicator, hope your kitty is better soon dude.

Ok, back from the vet, his gums are okay, healthy, he eats good and poops good, it appears to be nothing life threatening, he always keeps his head down and doesn't like someone to fiddle with the rotation of his head or ups and downs, so we think there's something wrong with his neck or something related to that area. Still we're kinda puzzled about how that ties to its hind legs..
If only he could talk ;]. Anyway he's still looking like a puddle of miserableness but i think today was positive anyway ^_^
Thanks for all the comments!

You named your cat Emo; what did you expect?
