"Conveyer" song meaning?
« on: October 18, 2008, 09:35:01 pm »
Yeah, I'm a little slow when it comes to interpretating lyrics XP. I've been trying to figure out the meaning of this song for a while but I just can't seem to find it. Help please?

It's a song about society becoming a single entity, where nobody thinks for themselves and we all act like machines.

To me the song is about EA and other publishers/developers putting out one garbage generic game after another and everyone buying them up like drones needing their fix. But thats just what comes to mind when I listen to it. ;)

It makes me think of belts.
That's the problem with heroes, really. Their only purpose in life is to thwart others. They make no plans, develop no strategies. They react instead of act. Without villains, heroes would stagnate. Without heroes, villains would be running the world. Heroes have morals. Villains have work ethic.

I see it as the commercialisation and globalisation of society and how fads created by the "powers that be" force us into a submission into what they want from us and end up getting it anyway by the sheer masses who cannot think for themselves.

Sacrifices must be made for the greater good of mankind.

Listening to the album as a whole should bring about a better understanding.

Most of the album and more specifically this song seems to be almost autobiographical about the band and life in/with the music industry. It's about wanting to be an individual, be heard, and bring something special to the world while becoming a product himself. A product to be sold amongst a sea of products in an industry almost allergic to the concepts of 'different' and 'passion'. These machines that spew out violated, simplistic shells of what must have been dreams similar to his are now his peers and he fears that he may become a victim of success (or unable to succeed beyond the limits of the system). Indeed it is hard to ignore the fact that the very next song on the album is a cover song meant to get peoples attention with familiarity/spoof/symbolism you name it if it gets you to listen to them, enjoy their music, buy their album and attend their shows.
While we wait for them to rise
In this world of sickened pleads
No matter where you run to...
The living dead will find you!

IMO: I see the song as a symbolic of a person that wants to think like an individual and not like a person that wants the same stuff everybody has.

Lets go over the lyrics...

[verse 1]
These endless isles of commercial piles
with millions of items for miles and miles
(This is about manufacturers who are using commercials to make us buy stuff hypnotizing you with their "great offers")
Sometimes I suddenly feel like my own worst enemy
(This is about a person who starts thinking her/himself and not as part of a collective, but is buying it)
I can't help but wonder
Somewhere in this place are we all just on display
(This is about the collective thinking, it is symbolic for: We all buy the stuff, so in the end not the goods are on sale but you are on sale yourself (like by buying the product you are actually selling yourself to them).

[chorus]
And everywhere I see machines spewing out
Our violated dreams and,
(this a continuing of the 2 lines above)
And finally I cannot breathe
(You choke upon you're own fear of being one with the collective)
I cry out, but who will hear my screams?
(You want to get away from here and you need help, but you don't know if there is somebody there to help you)

[verse 2]
I steer clear of my peers
Stampeding humans are everywhere
(My guess is: everyone around you goes to get the sh!t the commercials told everyone about, and are going to it like a stampede of rhino's , but you are staying far from those items)(Though I didn't really understood the peer part p2p perhaps?)
Sometimes I suddenly feel like my own worst enemy
I can't help but wonder
Somewhere in this place are we all just on display
(same as in verse 1)

[Chorus]

[instrumental]

[chorus]

And everywhere this factory
Just goes on
Into eternity
(The company's just keep on creating new thing they take to the market and we continue buying it like a programmed machine (fore ever and on)
I know I've fallen in too deep
(You tried to get out but now you start becoming one of them)
I cry out, but who will hear my screams?
Who will hear me?
(You last screams to the world to help you get out of the collective)

But like I said that's my opinion

digimortal pretty much wrote what I think of it, too. Probably it's all about the commercialized world which works like a neverending vortex... or a neverending conveyer maybe :P The lyrical ego is looking at his/her cold, machinized surroundings and is horrified about what he/she sees. Well, and there's no way out.

I gotta say I really love the song. The fact that the lyrics aren't 100% clear at every point makes it possible, that everyone can use the power of imagination and get his own special interpretation :)

Okay, so it's time to do it yasiekk style again.
It's so easy, that I can't imagine how could you not understand those lyrics.

IT'S ALL ABOUT CARS!

Quote
These endless aisles of commercial piles
with millions of items for miles and miles
When you go to some garage or other car part equivalent of Wall-mart, there are endless aisles, which bring you to one point - buying something for your car. Something, that will help you drive for miles and miles. And there's million of choices which part to get.

Quote
Sometimes I suddenly feel like my own worst enemy
When you don't know anyone who you can race with, what do you do? Yes, time trials! You just race yourself, becoming your worst enemy.

Quote
I can't help but wonder
Somewhere in this place are we all just on display
Car showrooms, visual tuning, decals, vinyls... it's all here.

Quote
And everywhere I see machines spewing out
Our violated dreams and
Well, sometimes you get your car broken. It spews out oil. Anyone had dreams of world at peace? Forget it. Wars violated them. Wars, like war in Iraq. And there's oil in Iraq. It makes sense now, doesn't it?

Quote
And finally I cannot breathe
Car problems? Engine smoking? So now you're choking, just cannot breathe.

Quote
I cry out, but who will hear my screams?
Even the smoking engine is a lot louder than your screams. That's obvious.

Quote
I steer clear of my peers
Stampeding humans are everywhere
Steering away from other racers? Sounds fun. They become angry cause you're dodging them, therefore the "stampeding" word.

And there's chorus again, same stuff.

There's only one style like the yasiekk style.
