according to last.fm...

1. Phantom Planet
2. Oceansize
3. John Mayer
4. Weezer
5. Machinae Supremacy
6. Margot & The Nuclear So and So's
7. Cursive
8. The Mars Volta
9. Mansun
10. Doves

Ehhh... Oceansize would definitely be top if it was based on total time spent listening, too many long songs.

Yeah, Last.FM is slightly flawed in that.

Long songs only count 1 time and a song that's only 1 minute long also counts.

I'm sure there are people who cheat at Last.FM with shortened songs played on loop.

As sad as that is...

I like the idea of last.fm helping you explore new music. But I just can't get used to the idea of AudioScrobbler automatically submitting every song I listen to. I installed AudioScrobbler a long time ago, but rarely turn it on. I consider a scrobble a vote that I like that song. I want to decide to cast that vote after I've listened to a song, not have it cast automatically for me while I'm listening to it. I guess I'm a control freak.

One neat thing that happened was a band e-mailed me saying "It has come to our attention you have been listening to our music" and let me know they had released some new tracks. I visited their homepage again and noticed their contact info says "There is no need to contact us. If we deem it necessary to get in touch with you, we will." Ha ha, indeed! Freaky but neat at the same time.

also also: have you heard the original version of Heartbeats that Jose saved and made beautiful? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zUGyFYUlquo

I love that version of Heartbeats.

Anyway, the top albums this year were a bi underwhelming although I do appreciate the tings tings and MGMT for being REALLY damn CATCHY. They kept playing Time To Pretend in the breaks between acts at Oxegen so I kind of like that song.

 On to my charts mahniggas:

1. Mew - 1277
2. Machinae Supremacy - 936
3. Jamiroquai - 619
4. Spiritual Beggars - 610
5. Justice - 522
6. Cut Copy - 485
7. Kamelot - 461
8. Electric Six - 412
9. Frank Klepacki - 390
10. Kyuss - 370

Top tracks:

1. Mew – Apocalypso - 79
2. Mew – 156 full track - 76
3. Mew – Snow Brigade - 73
4. Justice – DVNO - 71
5. Mew – Special - 70
6. Mew – Fox Cub - 64
7. Mew – Am I Wry? No - 57
8. Mew – Eight Flew Over, One Was Destroyed full track - 57
9. Mew – Saviours of Jazz Ballet (Fear Me, December) - 56
10. Mew – The Zookeeper's Boy - 54

I guess that's what i get for having a thousand listens to an artist of who i own two albums.
