I am getting pretty bored of my current games and kinda want something that will hold my attention...I played in the beta, and it didn't hold my attention at all (was a Gladiator on Elyos) and quit before the end of the beta. But with that new patch and someone saying they are changing the Grind philosophy so that it may be more enjoyable to casual gamers, I may end up looking back into it.

But no idea when that patch may arrive, and not a huge fan of subscription games...I may need some more convincing to pick this one up. But my boredom may prevail if I can't find any other games soon.

I do like subscription games - if you look at the amount of new content (more than just a new map every now and then) you get for the monthly fee, it clearly outranks the regular games. Played WoW for quite a long time, but I never really liked the shinybrightcutechibikawaii-style of Aion. Nevertheless, 10€/$ a month really isn't much, that's what you pay for a trip to the cinema, which is 2 hours of entertainment.

Still not sure if its worth it until i get some info AFTER this new patch

I'm playing at the moment, and while I enjoy a few aspects of the game all I hear of endgame is grind grind grind. I saw the new trailer and, if they replicate what was in that to the live game, I will be very impressed.
Until then, though, my subscription remains inactive. The game has potential, but it was nowhere near altered enough to meet the demands of a clearly opposite western market. This 'aint Korea, guys, try again.

Oh I selled my account it´s pretty boring on higher levels... Played till lvl 47 with my main char. This game takes just to much of my lifetime. You have to repeat some quests over and over again just boring. Till lvl 30 it was fun but after that .... I don´t think I´ll play MMO´s ever again I just don´t have the time anymore

Fast forward to 2012! So it's free. Aion has been F2P for quite a while now. And if what EDiots have to say on the game is anything to go by, the game is a nice, steaming piece of poop. Obviously it is overdramatized but I hate how the level progression allegedly spikes dramatically after level 30 or so. And also how the article states that there really is nothing to do in the game after getting to the top level and top tier armor.

Well, it should be expected, really. It's just like in WoW, except it is constantly getting updates and is better at sucking the life from you.

Oh, why do I necro this thread, then? I don't know. A friend of mine said to me that he wants to check the game out. Fair enough, we shall.

ARE YOU A WIZARD?

I just started playing it again yesterday, and im actually enjoying the fact that there are PEOPLE in it again.  I played it from beta to 6 months in, when I got hacked lost all my stuff (which is actually a very big deal in Aion) and NCsoft basically shrugged and gave me the finger.  I vowed not to give them anymore money, but I did enjoy the game.

Aion is one of those games where when you hit max, yes the game is pretty much over, but it takes you a while to get there.  If you hit max level in 2-3 days (like you can do in WoW) you have issues.

ARE YOU A WIZARD?
A warrior, actually. I wanted to put here a screenshot of my afro negroidal Elysian dude and make a lame joke about the pool being closed, but whatever.
It was a pretty fun game for the first 10 levels, if uninspired. It could definitely rival WoW in quite a few areas back in the day, but then WoW got refurbished quests that in general blew Aion's ones out of the water. Not to mention the simplified, Diablo III-ish, casual-friendly mechanics. I did not think it a bad thing, mind you! I really hated how much of my life I had to sacrifice in order to do boring stuff in WoW, so the simpler, the better. Well, to a point, obviously.

There is also a story in Aion, but since there are 3900 quests to do, we haven't bothered much to check it out.
So anyway, the moment we hit up Sanctum, everything went to hell. Those professions, man. Repeating boring work orders again and again made us feel like Chinese gold farmers. Plus, we felt so lost all of a sudden. Really sucked out our will to play the game. We might still meet up later, try to grind up to level 18 through boring quests and check out the instances.
It's a good thing players are provided some kind of a charm that increases the EXP gained by 50%, I suppose.

...I should have named my character Adenaplz :P

 Those professions, man.
Protip: professions in Aion are for people who like EVE.

You outlevel anything you make so fast now it isnt worth it, and quests give you enough gold to buy what you want (if it doesnt allready drop from quests.)  If you think THIS is a grind, be glad you never played original release, this game is fuckin easy now.  Get lost? follow your story questline, it leads to the new quest hub.

And so we said: "balls to it". You know, the grind was still bearable, but being F2P feels like playing an extended demo version. You can't trade, can't use the auction house, can't join guilds (legions) and more, and that was the last straw. This is unacceptable to people like us who have played WoW before. You still have to pay in order to enjoy all features of the game? We'll pass until real life moniez can only get you vanity items at most, and all players have otherwise equal opportunities.

Gotta thank NCSoft for helping me avoid becoming addicted to another MMORPG though, I'll give them that.

I think that's because you played Aion while it was still pay to play. (You did, right?) You guys get so-called "veteran accounts" with some additional privileges and apparently basically get the full game, no catches. Here is the table comparing the account types.

And I did break the rule indeed... Though actually it only referred to my user profile. I used to have a pretty lame WoW reference in there. Removed it soon after becoming fed up with the game.
Well I figured out that Aion is pretty much a clone of the Original Evil, so it's kinda like talking about the same thing. :P

Ah, was not aware of my Vet Status (Played from beta to about 3 months into release)

That does suck that they did that to new people, its actually pretty fun.
