firstly: It is meant to be allegorical.  Speaking of people who aren't themselves and just put on a mask to fit in with everyone else.  "Do you really want to be another face in the masquerade?"

I don't think it refers to any play, text or otherwise. (maybe I'm wrong)

secondly: there's a thread wherein song meanings are discussed for any future questions you guys have about songs and their intent.
