Check your updates and see if theres a non-free update (or unsupported update) available. Most video cards/soundcards have to go that route since they use non-freeware drivers.

That's how I got my video card working. I admit, the machine I have Ubuntu installed on doesn't even have speakers or headphones plugged in at the moment so I've yet to fool with the sound. I have a Razer Barracuda AC-1 so im looking forward to trying to get that darn thing to work in Ubuntu on my main machine.... but I'm not installing it until I acquire a second hard drive on that rig.

Well, Creative have released a beta driver for that particular sound card for 64-bit Linux. And I have the X86-64 verison of Ubuntu, since I have an AMD Athlon X2 64 processor. Trouble is, when I try to install said driver, I get an error message saying that the driver is for 64-bit OS's :P

Other than that, I can find no other drivers for my sound card whatsoever.

Well... crap. I'm guessing you searched around google for other people with issues as well?

If they have specific linux drivers and you tried them, I'm not sure what else would work... =\

Creative drivers are bad enough on Windows (read: fucking terrible), I don't even dare imagine how bad they would be on linux.

Indeed. Next time I need a new sound card, I'll avoid Creative like the plague.

It works acceptably... if and when you get it to work, that is :P

and yeah, I googled and stuff for linux drivers, but seems the official beta drivers are the only ones available. oh well, no biggie anyhow.

I've been running Ubuntu for something like half a year now...
I can't recall ever wanting to run Windows again.

I installed Ubuntu first time some 2 years ago. Since then I've had both Ubuntu and Windows, latter due to some programs which won't run on Ubuntu. This has changed though, nowadays I'm able to run most of those Windows shitz with Wine. I hope I can finally format my Windows disk some day :)

Btw, Ubuntu 8.04 will be out next week. There's already a Release Candidate available.

Hmm, I just installed Ubuntu 8.04 on my laptop. I really only use Windows XP for my desktop, and I'm used to Debian for working in a server environment, so this is a rather good balance of my preferences. I really do quite like the installer too - the Debian one is good, but this is better, heh. It'll probably take me a while to get used to using this in a desktop environment, but so far, so good.
