Slipknot was the first metal band I got into.. then I discovered other bands.
I'm still a big Slipknot fan though and really don't see the point in bashing them other than the fact that Volume 3 sucked. Majorly.

Brother!

Rhapsody, at 11 or 12.
Then I read (and understood) the lyrics ... and searched for different bands.

At least one person has been freed from their grasp. >_>
That's the problem with heroes, really. Their only purpose in life is to thwart others. They make no plans, develop no strategies. They react instead of act. Without villains, heroes would stagnate. Without heroes, villains would be running the world. Heroes have morals. Villains have work ethic.

Oh come on! Rhapsody's lyrics are part of what makes them so awesome. They wrote an entire fantasy story which is told chronologically through their songs. It doesn't get much better than that.

I can take corny, but not when they're trying to be serious.  :P

I guess the first "rock" music I really liked was all the Britpop stuff going around in the 90s (Suede, Oasis, Mansun, Bluetones etc). Rammstein were probably my first "metal" band and my second live experience (Ocean Colour Scene being my first o.O)

If Limp Bizkit counts as metal, then it would be that I think... :P First really good metal band I listened to was most likely Metallica (started listening to it when I was like 14 or something), and it's still the number 1 for me.

The earliest band I liked, and still do, would probably be RHCP though. :)

First metal band was the 2nd artist I ever liked.
Rammstein.

the first... Spice Girls.

not
even
kidding.

but after Rammstein spawned Korn, Linkin Park, Disturbed, NIN, Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie, and of course, Machinae Supremacy.
Machinae Supremacy is the only one I really listen to -a lot- anymore.
although once the new NIN comes out i'll probably give them a renewal treatment.

I loved the Spice Girls  :o

but then again back then i loved Eminem and Dr. Gay err Dre

When I really think of it, the first heavier bands I really listened to were Marilyn Manson and Silverchair. Those were followed by Dimmu Borgir, Sentenced, Amorphis, Waltari and Nightwish. This happened in the years between 96 and 98.

But it won't have the same 'Girl Power' attitude!

i miss the feministic days of Spice Girls

Whurd. I liked Rhapsody to start with, but quickly found them way too pompous to sustain any long-term enjoyment on my part.
Check out http://www.nanowar.it for a band that mercilessly parodies them, Luca Turilli, Manowar and the like... ;)

Nanowar's stuff is pretty funny but they make fun of Manowar a lot more than Rhapsody. Though it is pretty awesome that they changed their name to Nanowar of Steel in response to Rhapsody becoming Rhapsody of Fire. Production quality removes any desire I have to listen to them though.
