Hmm... they're pretty good, but nowhere near the awesomeness of Downward/Fragile.

trent is probably the weakest lyricist I have ever listened to

and that kind of ruins his music which is supposed to have some great big message but fails due to the fact he's writing 13-year-old lyrics when he's what, 42?

oh COME ON! That is fucking harsh.

I'm not saying his lyrics are totally amazing or anything, but he is far from incompetent.

Even on Pretty Hate Machine, songs like Something I Can Never Have (which is essentially a spoken word piece, and all the better for it) is raw without being shallow, and rich without being pretentious.

For the most part, I think he's only improved lyrically through his career (highlights for me include Last, Ruiner, We're in this together and Only)

But most importantly, the lyrics fuse with the music impeccably, which is the most important thing - and they just wouldn't if they were shit. I've never listened to a NIN song and cringed at the lyrics as I have with a Cradle of Filth, Sonata Arctica or Man o War song.

agreed!
I actualy really enjoy a good deal of the lyrics.
"every day is exactly the same" is a real hitter for me, personaly.

In a good way, or a bad way?
That's the problem with heroes, really. Their only purpose in life is to thwart others. They make no plans, develop no strategies. They react instead of act. Without villains, heroes would stagnate. Without heroes, villains would be running the world. Heroes have morals. Villains have work ethic.

Ooh, heat sensitive CD?

Sorry, I'm a sucker to gimmicks. <<;

Definitely considering buying it, though.

Yeah. The CD as standard is black with just "year zero" on it. I put it in, ripped the tracks, took it out and it came out completely white with 0s and 1s and the copyright info and stuff on it. Then i waited for it to go black again and put my handprint on it xD
It's well worth buying.
