new age
« on: March 12, 2007, 10:21:14 am »
ive been listening to a lot of new age music lately. i have difficulty sleeping and i just play some new age i have through the night. but i started looking around last.fm for more new age and taking more notice of the music. i really, really like it.

this may sound stupid, but seeing as a lot of you are musos maybe not, but new age puts me on a different planet. its very spiritual to me, perhaps because im wiccan...

no clue where im going with this.. sleep depped  ::)

anyone else like new age at all?

i wanna say it's good for when on drugs but that would be bad for the kids to read

Goa is normally good for that stuff too

New age is quite a broad subject. But I cool down easy to some Feng Shui music.

Uh... cross-referencing Wikipedia's list of new age musicians, and delving into the new age musician category... I like Philip Glass, Sun Ra, Brian Eno, Tangerine Dream, and Enya (stfu). But it also says TD and Enya don't consider their music "new age".

Whatever. I'd honestly never heard of the genre before now. Seems kind of sketchily defined to me.

genres are sketchy...

when I see all the genres itunes assigns to most of my music, it always gets a big "wtf?"
and I usualy highlight everything and remove the "genre" categorizing.

That's actually.. an awesome idea. I was going crazy with all the renaming of song titles etc on my iPod, and renaming all the genres..

I may just go and do that now.

not so much when it labels stuff like Kunek in "hard metal"
Rammstein in "folk"
and Funker Vogt in "world"

it's just idiotic.

You could consider that masu - Ninja isnt SiD Metal, but rather a SiD Ballad or something. The possibilities are endless in stupidity.

and even if you look at Band's myspaces.
they RARELY have themselves labeled under 1 genre.
they'll often have 2-3, or even 4 and 5 different genres to even try to describe what they sound like.

genres are very restricting in describing what a band sounds like.
which is ironic, since it's supposed to help.
