That one Machinae Supremacy band did some pretty cool game covers. :P

Honestly, you listed most of the ones I know of. However, if you want some awesome "inspired by game" music check out The Protomen. Their album is fantastic and tells the story of Megaman while somehow managing to capture the entire feeling. They did a great job putting a more indepth story behind their music and the game as well.

Press Play on Tape, of course.

EDITH : Okay, sorry, didn't see the "metal" in the end of the subject. Anyway, the cover of Monkey Island's Theme is pretty punk-ish.

EDITH 2 : The Black Mages ?

my favourite video game remixes are found http://www.ocremix.org/ here.

I absolutely love what they did with Metroid, Chrono Trigger, Kirby and Donkey kong.

it's not necesarily metal.
Chrono Symphonic (chrono trigger remix project) is all symphony.

but there are some metal remixes amongst them.
the rest are just as incredible none-the-less though.

And to that, I point you to this remix.

That has to be THE heaviest thing I've ever heard come from ocremix.org @_@

Even my game remixes can't compare ;;__;;

that was like the worst game in puke history.
I don't remember the music though, so perhaps there is hope.

I dunno. It was mainly the music that made it very very enjoyable for me. :)

It's still better than a lot of the other games that came out for the NES (**coughSnakeRattleNRollcough**)

XformZ have made a couple of nice VGM metal covers. Don't remember their site tho.

One of the best VGM metal songs I've heard is made by a Finnish band called Epiclore. It's a medley of Doom music. http://epiclore.net/gutr/EPICLORE-Grace_Upon_The_Realm_(demo_2002)-08-KneeDeep_in_Doom_(bonus_track).mp3

FUCKING ASHANE

he's housethegrate's brother, and just as goddamn amazing.

his three most prestigious releases are the battle theme from Final Fantasy Mystic Quest..:
http://housethegrate.powweb.com/ashane/audio/Ashane-04.07-FFMQ-Red.Cap.Assault.mp3

and two ten-minute Chrono Trigger prog epics, using the themes of Schaula and Zeal with variations:

http://housethegrate.powweb.com/ashane/audio/Ashane-04.09-Chrono.Trigger-Zealous.Entropy.mp3
http://housethegrate.powweb.com/ashane/audio/Ashane-LuIzA-05.07-Chrono.Trigger-Cessation.of.Mammon-WIP.mp3

worship them or burn in hell.

most importantly, Ashane's version of Red Cap Assault done on guitar:

also worth looking up are Darangen and Master Hatchet.
