but there's no such thing as a NORMAL bandname.. i mean, not popular bands anyway. There are general patterns sometimes like "The ____s", but that can be rather weird. often it's a made-up word (Primus) or reference to some pop culture thing (Nerf Herder, Save Ferris) which makes no sense in the context of music. in fact, it only very rarely makes sense in the context of music. Machinae Supremacy? that's a weird band name! it sounds like it should a comic book or wannabe-the matrix anime. Bands whose name is a prepositional phrase (In Flames)! weird. Bands whose name is a more or less random noun (Incubus): weird in the sense that a name is generally supposed to be something descriptive or sensible or at least that you like. Foreign bands (Fanatic Crisis) sometimes don't even bother with making it make what limited sense it's able to in just the context of itself! Sometimes there's punctuation (The Aquabats!, Panic! At the Disco, ...And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead), sometimes it IS punctuation (!!!).

Bands go out of their way not to make sense (Screaming Monkey Boner, The The) or to be nothing but a name that kinda sounds good (Millencolin, Solemite). Some names have numbers, for good reasons (The 20 go to 10), or for bad (Blink 182, 98 Mute). Some band names ARE numbers (5606, 311). Some names are simply challenges to society (Fuck, Arrogant Sons of Bitches), and some are simply intriguingly strange (This Bike is a Pipe Bomb, D[di:], Death Cab For Cutie).

I suppose the only non-weird band names are names which are just names of people.

!T.O.O.H.!
Sunn O)))
Godspeed You! Black Emperor

Names that aren't weird, just offensive:

Gorgasm
Adolf Satan
Cannibal Corpse
Anal Cunt
Anal Blast
Anal Vomit

Basically, just search metal-archives.com for any offensive term.  You won't be disappointed.

Oddly enough I don't find any of them weird or offensive. In fact I'd consider all those pretty normal.

a world where saying "anal cunt is my favourite band" and not getting dirty looks is a good one.

on another note, I think all of those bands eat feces covered testicles...

I thought they meant Pearl as in a pretty one, and jam as in "jamming out with ma band!"

so it was like... a pretty jam session?
aw... now they're just GROSS.

true conversation of a few days ago:

*phone rings*
me: Hello?
friend: Hey, what's that stuff called, like the cheesy crap under the foreskin?
me: Uh, smegma.
friend: okay, thanks. I knew you'd know! bye.
*click*

I'm not sure whether it's a compliment or not. I'll assume it must be..

okay, some more contributions: Silver Swirly, Table Dancing With Betty, SOBA, Slow Gherkin, cherry filter. again, only weird if you think about it from afar. plenty of really popular bands have truly strange names but we just don't notice. Led Zeppelin? Third Eye Blind? System of a Down? come on.
